Don't think there are enough of them, so the next room you can be placed in is the SR S but lower DR room, usually a lot of D drivers.

If your SR get's even lower, like barely S you can then get matched with the guys at SR A instead.

Yeh. DR/D SR/S were also scarce at one stage. I was high SR/S and constantly being matched against DR/Bs and As. DR/C appeared to be a myth. Now it's changed. If my SR is in the 90s I'm more likely to be matched against other DR/Ds. Once you hit the 80s it's a free for all and it can be a mix of anything and SR/S and SR/A.

Speaking of which... Race B! I qualified P4 with the NSX. The lineup (I've included the cars):
Grid_Largo_160718.jpg

It was a bit hairly at T1, but I managed to get through. I was forced wide a couple of turns later and gained a penalty, and was passed. On the start/finish strait I was passed again. Those two later spun out so there was just the Megane to deal with in P3. I stuck like glue and was faster coming out of the final turn. I crossed 1/3 of a car length behind him, so:

Yeh, I was carrying a 0.8s penalty (so 1s), but... he was carrying 2s ;).

SR still 99, DR up lots. <happy dance>

What? People are *still* whining about the Megane? I thought @05XR8 proved some time ago that it isn't unbeatable? :odd:
Too right. They need to die, Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeee.

Waiting for qualifying for Race C to finish. Cracked the 2min with the love bug. We'll see where that gets us. Hope the handling hasn't craped out during the race. Last race with the RSR showed a marked difference compared to qualifying.

It was probably the first one on the inside as I was giving the car on the outside extra space. That's a problem all over Sarthe, driving side by side is a choice between 2 evils, give the other car a little too much room and you get a short or wide penalty. Give him just a little bit too little and you might make contact. Annoyingly contact is usually the better option, less severe or usually no penalty. Although sometimes you get that 10 sec penalty for slight contact without any consequences.

Despite PD now using a random number generator for a penalty system my day at Sarthe went rather well. Actually at first it seems to be heading towards a repeat of last Saturday where I couldn't keep my head above water, racing on without qualifying, and eventually landed at D/E after 20 races. So after getting slapped with 10 sec penalties in a row in the unruly back field, I gave in and did a qualifying lap between races.

7 wins in total, over 9K DR up, close to 40K, SR 99. Sure there were more faulty penalties, however starting up front meant beating the odds overall. Or rather, getting knocked below 90 SR now meant starting top 3 or even pole, good chance for a win and pretty much guaranteed clean race. Only one of those wins was at SR 99, the 280th one with 6 positions gained. A little quarrel at the front helped.

So there you have it, don't qualify sink to 3000/1 on Sarthe. Do Qualify and drive the meta, rise to 40K/99 with a bunch of wins.

Had a couple races with you last night, great job bud. I was usually the lone GT-R qualified in the top 10. It's nice to see that you're having better races lately, with qualifying and all. Although we didn't get to battle much, we did make contact in the very beginning of one of our races together. You had taken the inside position right at the beginning of the race, before the first left/right chicane. Even though I was disappointed that you decided to go for the pass at that time, slowing us both down in the process, I was giving you space on the inside when I think you got rear-ended by the guy behind you, pushing you into me and we both got penalties. I really hate starts at La Sarthe, anything below top 3 just sucks as you have to navigate that chicane at an odd speed. After that you were long gone and I couldn't catch you in that Mustang. Hope to see you again on the tracks soon and get my redemption!

Race C for me. Qualified P6/20 on a grid with a storm trooper on pole, a B/S in there somewhere, and the rest a mix of DR/C and D. Was looking forward to the race.

The race starts and I took the inside to protect myself at T1, but I *still* managed to be pushed out and get an orange SR and the first of my penalties. Then I get shoved off into the red and gain another penalty and back down to P10. I pushed on and managed to keep things reasonable. Think I pitted P7.

Coming out of the pits and things went down hill. I had people who just would not give room, or worse yet, when I was passing them, deliberately push me to the side. After that I just drove angry. I wasn't making contact, but I just didn't give a flying 🤬 about the track penalties. The red mist had settled and I really didn't care if I crossed first and finished last. As it turned out I crossed P7 with 12s of penalties which had me finish P9.

SR dropped by 5 and DR went up a few hundred. Another day above DR 1 :odd:.

It was nice to "meet" you last night. You should have seen the dirty stuff I was dealing with.

Oh I can imagine. Last Saturday I stuck with starting from the back, ended as D/E.

If it was the one before the start line I wasn't going for the pass there. I usually go to the inside to get a better view at the corner (bumper cam), block the car behind me, and not get caught in the slipstream if the car ahead brakes early. My plan is always to slot in behind before the apex. However it's hard to communicate that to the driver ahead :/ And indeed you giving me space meant slowing down and getting hit in the back...

You're right, starting before the 2 final chicanes sucks, pos 6 is about the worst as there's a high chance the car in front spins on the sausage while the car behind goes in too fast hitting you when you start halfway between the two corners at an odd angle.

Next time you see me and you're still in front, just cut in front of me, I expect it. I only make sure I can brake fast enough by getting out of your slipstream.

Yesterday, after finally being DR: A again, was just not my day... lost a lot of DR at Le Mans and Maggiore. Mostly because of unfair penalty's. Went from 31XXX to 26XXX. By the end of the day got it back up to 28XXX again.

But today was great!! Raced Interlagos in my GT-R, which i always race with. From the start got 8 consecutive clean races while racing hard! Did like 11 or 12 races and gained positions in every race, only from 1 where i lost 1 position. Scored 6000 DR points so i'm back at 34XXX. :p

Also much nice driving from most of the people! A lot of close fight but they where all fair! I loved it!!

Today was a good day!

It wasn't before the start, but you did get a better exit out of that one than I did, so you were gaining on me leading up to the first actual chicane on lap 1. You were about to pass me on the outside, but then you backed off leading up to that first chicane so I thought you were ready to go single file, but after I started braking on the ideal racing line I saw you creeping up and you took the inside, so I let you have it. It was just a risky move, as most people either don't pay attention going into turns like that and close the door anyway, or simply can't navigate two-wide on technical corners. The incident wasn't your fault, as you rightfully took that inside position and I gave you space, but it could have been avoided I think, if everyone just accepted that single file through that chicane is best for all. However, had you not squeezed up the inside, the guy behind you who ended up ramming you might have done so anyway and rammed us both. I can't pretend to know exactly everything that was going on and I didn't save the replay, I was just surprised that you decided to take that spot right then, especially since I qualified ahead of you and was faster up until the long straights where the Mustang shines. Great job though, before you got rammed it looked as if we were about to take that chicane no problem just the two of us.

Not the worst race I've had but how are these people SR:A?

not sure i see anything wrong with those penalties. you unsettled that 911s rear end and he went off course so you get 5s. against that beetle you cut the corner going wide from the previous turn so you get a small penalty for that.

as for how they're SR.A, i think most of SR.A drivers are not belligerent but they're wreckless. If they had better control of their car most could make it into SR.S.
SR B and down people are straight up naughty.

Well for starters the 911 left the track and cut back across in front of me. If you leave the track you give up the racing line so that's what's annoying. I'm not moaning at the time penalty, I'm just annoyed by the situation in the first place. As for the small cut of track against the beetle, again I have no issue with. I caught a bit of understeer and it couldn't be helped but what could have been helped was the manor of his driving in regards to how quick he was to block my line in the uphill left hander and then cut so aggressivley on the right hander. This driver had already cut the t6/7/8 S bend and knock me off in the process previous in the race but i forgot to save the replay so I knew he was a risk.

If you had came across these issues, you'd be fine and have no issues?

Now that I am back down to SR B I have come to the conclusion the changes to the system are to try and prevent us all being SR S all the time for races.

I have no problem with that but unless you are exceptionally skilled and focussed in a race you will never be able to regain your lost SR under the current system.

Perhaps I am wrong and just been unlucky but this is by far the hardest week on my SR for some considerable time.

Ah, lemme check if it's somewhere in my saved videos, I'm far from perfect!

I love going side by side though. One race I was side by side with Hardhitter all the way up to Mulsanne, perfectly synchronized driving holding up the traffic behind us, great fun. Unfortunately at Mulsanne he got bumped into me and I went wide.

Found it. I went for it, thought I was clear yet you got bumped from behind which resulted in me not giving you enough space and we made contact.

You later went wide at Indianapolis. Then a cheater took advantage right after and drove right through me and inside the car in front of me. At the end I ended up with another penalty squeezing the car behind on my inside a bit as he had run me off right there in a previous race. Every time I rub I get a penalty. That was one of my worst races, SR dropped from 99 to low 80's. However that started me in 4th for the next race which I won with the fastest lap. There's always a silver lining. Notice the parking lot action at the end lol.

And here's driving with Hardhitter, fun.

Weird stuff happened to me just now. Race B, Lap 3 and I was having a good 3 way fight for 7th. Suddenly when lap 4 started it showed me 15th and a lap down with the blue flag to allow faster cars to pass. Mind you I have 7th in front of me and 8th right on my tail, ansdhere I am for some reason 15th. I expected it would revert back to my original position (8th) when I crossed the finish line. But I crossed and ended up 15th. Wth happened?

Hmm, that player at the top, was being called out as a cheater before and after the races I was in. I don't watch the qualy and haven't watched that player in my replays, but I did come across that player a couple times. I did get that vibe.

Aw man! Sorry, I didn’t even realize I got bumped first, I thought you did and hit me as a result. I heard the crash but didn’t feel much. Actually I think that same guy knocked me around a bit in a previous race. Oh well. Overall I had some good races. Things were looking good for me up until I went off track there, I underestimated the slipstream...doh. Good seeing you out there and I hope you keep qualifying because you’re a good racer and deserve podiums and wins.

I take issue with that first penalty you had. He leaves the track and then comes back and hits you. How are YOU at fault? Did you knock him off the track? That's the only way I can see that being a penalty for you.

I've seen the word "Cheat" thrown around a bit the last 24 hours or so. I'm curious, how does one CHEAT at this??

From what I've read in this thread, some players cut corners in a way, that helps them achieve faster times. Be it by getting thru a corner fast enough, to get a penalty, that gets burned before they complete the lap.

Other ways to cheat, are by using other players to get penalties while they receive none.

Brake checking: a player is close to the rear of their car, they tap the brakes and the player behind hits their rear, incurring a penalty.

Side by side: the player slightly ahead, can cause contact and the player right next to them, gets the penalty.

Bump and run: a spiteful play, either using another car as a "brake" into a corner and sometimes at corner exit, to gain an advantage, by impeding the car ahead.

I am afraid for the “cheaters” reaction that if the game allows it, its not a real cheat since everybody can do it. That reaction is even worse than the cheating itself.

In the end it means we are playing a “serious” game with people who dont take themselves serious. Why play a game in a way that its not intended ?

And if you win, who are you exactly fooling other than yourself ?

Funny you mention this. I had someone on my left side last night and he kept swerving into me. I could have sworn he was doing it on purpose. Well eventually hit me hard enough I moved and when I tried to get back on the line, he was in my way. I GOT THE PENALTY!!! He got nothing for basically smashing into me for a good 1/4 of a lap.

no we didnt touch

I'm pretty excited about what looks to be a great week of Daily Races coming up. I think PD has started increasing the frequency of its most-liked or most-raced tracks.

Looking forward to seeing some of you GTP members out there. I'll be racing Interlagos and Maggiore tonight around 8 central time, and hopefully I'll stay in A/S lobbies throughout!

The penalty system couldn't be more broken after the last update. This is about the most upside down penalty I got last night:
Ln3aEkF.gif

Car 0.5 sec behind brakes too late and taps my rear bumper, I get SR down and 2 sec penalty. I couldn't have taken that corner any cleaner yet PD thinks I'm brake checking??

What time zone is that. I don't really like either track yet I'll be racing anyway. See you there!

Central Time in the U.S......so I'm one hour behind the east coast and 2 hours ahead of the west. Right now it's 17:00 here (5pm), so I'll be online in about 3 hours.

Well I'm out of the races for the rest of the week as have decided to move on and play Sonic Mania Plus.

Racing my favourite track Interlagos brought me no enjoyment today, had a good second race and got a 3rd place with the 86 but then got penalty central in the next one and undid my improvements again so back to being DR C/ SR B and I have no energy to try and
improve it again for a while..

I really hope that something is changed when I come back to the game in two weeks as I'm away most of next week as I really don't
think I can handle the pressures of a race and the penalties in the current system.

I think you have just been unlucky. In the 145 days since I first gained SR/S, I've been SR/S for 135. Of the 10 days not in SR/S. 9 of those were SR/A. Don't give up and keep on plugging away. I know it can be a bit discouraging at times, but hang in there! 👍
