Is the penalty system actually improving??

A bit of an aggressive move, however I was right behind him for over a lap already and after he slipped up in Hawthorn I went for the pass. He did not leave room for me at the apex while I was alongside before turn in. (or maybe he expected me to go via the grass?) He crashed off and I was waiting for the 5 sec penalty to pop up. Not even an SR Down and clean race bonus after. A fluke, or is the penalty system getting smarter?

Edit: Perhaps it's just broken in that corner. In a later race:

Car behind sticks a nose in and pit manoeuvres me off the road. He did not get a penalty for that either. He did have a red S at the end, must have done other things.

The player who deliberately punted you off comes from Brazil, who would have thought :D
 
I usually close the corner so tight on those two turns, otherwise it's off to the litter for me. Taking a racing line there invites a t-bone from the missile behind.

Race B this week has made me realise what a fantastic, underrated circuit Brands Hatch is. Narrow, weavy and full of elevational changes. Not one easy corner. Silverstone gets far too much of the limelight.

I think game will never be smart enough to apply penalties in that situation correctly. Proper F1 races have stewards for that. So the best course of action would be to penalize both parties. People usually dive bomb, but also assume that corner is theirs, although it doesn't have to be...
Current situation where nobody gets penalized is bad especially at places like Brands where is easy to be on the inside and just tap opponent, or take the wide exit from inside of the corner and the opponent is properly out of the race. Had plenty of that this week :(

That's why I have a simple rule: always defend the inside line when you don't know who you're racing against. If you know your opponents drive clean, you can defend the outside line when it's the best racing line.

I hope it's any non-race Porsche. 996, 997 or N500 RS. So I don't need to buy one of the new ones. :D

Those look the same to me, not sure how you can blame the car on the inside for one and the car on the outside for the other. In my opinion neither move was ever really on.

The difference is corner rights. Getting alongside in the braking zone is a valid move. Sticking a nose in at turn in is not. Look at the radar to see the difference. Significant overlap before turn in versus a nose after turn in.

I don’t see how this makes sense. Say you’re in 5th, but for the next corner, you downshift to 2nd with the paddles, but your gear lever is still in 5th. So you’re saying you’d have to move the lever from 5th to 3rd after the corner to upshift? That doesn’t seem like any fun...

Using both the h-pattern and paddles in the first place isn't fun either. It's just the fastest.

But personally before upshifting I'd place the lever to the gear I'm currently in, so the upshift is more intuitive

You don't get to 5th in Tsukuba. I leave it fourth, paddle downshift to 2nd in turn one, H upshift to fourth, paddle downshift to 2nd in turn 2, H up to fourth, paddle downshift to 2nd in last hairpin, then in last turn H downshift to 3rd and up again to 4th. End of lap.
 
I know i´m a bit late, but here you can see the difference between Paddle Shifting and H-Shifter + Clutch on todays Race C with equal skilled drivers:



There´s no way for a paddle shifter to overtake when your opponent avoids bigger mistakes.
I think the advantage is about 0,5 sec a lap with 0,3-0,4 on the main straight only. :scared:
Don´t know if i think this good or not. :confused:
Of course using a Clutch and H-Shifter is much harder than just two paddles.
It´s fair to give those driver a little advantage but in this specific combo it´s impossible to overtake when your opponent got the routine on it.
Maybe thats similar to the never-ending story of racing with Pad against Wheel drivers.

i saw some people in daily races write in their text box ( GT logo or country flag)

can anyone learn me how to do this trick or if there more logos pls tell me !
 
I really struggled to set a good qualifying time at Brands. Started at the back in every race, but despite that I found I could run at just a second or so off my qualy time. started last and finished 5th in one race. Overall though, DR has gone down a bit but SR up to S.
 
Sounds a lot like my experience. My quality time at B/S placed me 13th-16th in every race at Brands. A typical result for me was finishing 9th or so, but that always cost me DR.

The best race I had saw me push up to 4th after some mayhem on lap 1, I then got passed cleanly and followed that guy around in 5th until the last lap, short straight after the 3rd-last corner he runs wide and loses it, starts swerving and losing speed. I was too eager in trying to capitalize on his mistake and picked a bad line into the penultimate corner, took us both off and received a penalty ><

I ended up 10th in that race, lost about 2000 DR this weekend so it wasn't great but I'm in my longest SRS streak ever. I love Brands Hatch but I'm apparently not fast enough for my rating group.

H is much harder and the possibility to miss is very high, esp when h&t and the clutch timing is wrong
 
If I were fast it would not be a problem. I am not fast and racing is terrible at best.No clean line given. Dropped to A .

The time penalty as it is now will allow a driver to ghost and then reappear just before you can clear them.

Take the penalty out of the hand of the offender. A pit drive through, that’s the ticket.
