Using a G29, unplugged whenever not in use. I've been absent for a short while too. In fact, planning on keeping my game time much reduced simply because the late nights were catching up on me. Last night I played for the first time in two weeks. Did daily A and got a quali at just over 1.30.3 which is about right for me (3 to 3.5% of top region time is my usual). Qualification felt OK. Did only two races. On both races I thought the handling was all over the place. Could not figure why the car felt so totally different in race than in quali. Braking and traction were set up the same, had not been off in the grass, but the car was vague and sloppy. At one point, going up the hill after T1 and getting ready for the first hard left, I felt there was no connection between the steering inputs and the car. I put it down to what seems to be an extraordinarily strong drafting benefit on that race. When I'm leading a car they are catching me with no effort but the minute they pass I'm all over them. It seems to me as though the car behind is getting a huge draft (much more so than previous Gr4 races I've done). If so, perhaps this was also making my steering unexpectedly light when I was behind other cars coming into corners...which obviously would not happen when qualifying.

On a different subject, and not having read back over the last few week's posts, I do like the new system of enforcing penalties to be taken. Not sure of the location of the enforcement on Daliy A though. The home straight may have made more sense. Also not sure of the idea that you can't scrub it optionally before the enforced zone.

I did Race B, like I say, in those 7 laps (which in the games defense was largely me learning the track as I have never raced at Barca), I put in a low 1.49 which is not fast, but surprisingly put me in the top 4 in the races I did enter but this was done with me literally couldn't drive the car, it was like ice, it wouldn't slow down, so much so that I had to check there was nothing stuck in my pedals.

I had worse problems in the race and the drafting point, and there were points (specifically following cars) where turns I would take in 3rd gear I was having to literally change down to 1st and still hanging on just off the grass.

Oh, and I have forgotten what an apex looks like, its been so long since I was near one!

Lost a race due to someone milking a penalty. Unfortunate.

I see people blocking with ghosted cars more and more often. Some have caught on that you can't drive through ghosted cars in the penalty zone after the penalty is done (while the car still slow and ghosted) and they deliberately drive into another cars path to slow them. It doesn't get them a new penalty, just slows the other car down. Everything will be abused.

I meant someone deliberately shorted the final chicane after turning into me, and got me a 1 second penalty as a result. But yes the ghosting bug is an issue that needs to be fixed.

Same here on Daily A. I raced again since I posted earlier and I could swear the race put me on intermediate tyres by mistake. I also started taking corners a gear lower than my normal and reducing speed just to avoid drifting out. I had time to do 8 quali laps pre-race and was consistently lapping to .5 of a sec on every one, including improving my best time by .250 of a sec. Then the race starts and it's like I'm on ice. It's not just down to draft as I thought initially. Starting 6th I got a good jump and went to 4th up the hill after T1. I was losing time to P3 so by second lap there was nothing in front of me. I held 4th but felt sorry for the guys behind me as my racing line was all over the place with me trying to compensate for the car drifting wide.

I know it will not happen and would take more than the penalty time so probably not practical but it would be nice if the enforced penalty was on the straight and cars were made "autodrive" along the wall and away from the racing line like an enforced drive through. The penalty zone on Daily A is on a crest approaching a bend and I find that even if cars are ghosted they are a distraction on that line.

Here's a couple of videos
F1

and a great MotoGP battle

It's so refreshing to hear proper F1 cars with proper race engines, F1 has really become abysmal thanks to the hybrids. My favorite is when they compare lap times of the current cars to cars of that era to show us fans how fast the hybrids are, do they forget that F1 had grooved tires back then? Well I guess the tires really couldnt make a difference in lap time could they? I mean the tires are all round and the cars rolled back then just like they do now. :irked::irked:

Ah that old trick still works. Monza is famous for it.

Catalunya is great for diving. I had to give up 4 positions in my last race to avoid contact from divers. I'm on clean race nr 28, zero trust in the penalty system and very little trust in the drivers in the back. If you don't get out of the way, you will be hit. Make a clean pass, give it back when the retaliatory dive comes in. The penalty zone is the most dangerous place on the track. Slowed ghosts, avoid at all cost. Plus at the end is the prime diving corner. For T1, if the car in front 'defends' the inside, no matter if you are ahead on the outside, better make sure you can stop to leave them all the road. Undercutting has no use either, radar is very useful to block as well, plus chances are they swerve to the outside for T2. Too risky.

This contact free challenge is hard, requiring a ton of patience with lap times as low as 1:54. There are plenty decent drivers as well, yet it only takes one to mess up a race. Crap, I've got the same diver starting behind me again. DR still too high to start last. I guess I'll let him pass on the first straight.

As I said, I raced the equivalent race with bots for testing. If I can't get a clean race with bots, there is no way I can do it with humans.

So what I'm doing at the moment is arcading a Catalunya custom race - Gr3 style. All the same BOP settings, penalty settings etc. as if it were the daily race and practicing driving in traffic and working out how it feels compared to quali tts. It one respect its not a great comparison because in the daily races I end up in, everyone is all over the place, but in another there is a certain amount of consistency from the bots that help with reptition and learning the lines and where you can/can't overtake.

The growing aggressiveness in the races is a big problem. Many simply do not want to accept that in an online game, not everyone can win. So they try to force the desired success. That's also a question of motivation. I drive because I want to have fun in exciting races. It does not matter if I finish on 1 or 15 when the race is good and the battles fair. But other players only go for the victory.

I struggle with this to some extent. I said in my first post on here that I was wanting to drive for fun and see how I lined up against the world etc. But then the bug of competition got to me. The problem is that there's not a lot in the way of recognition for those of us who 'aren't that good'. I will not win that many races in my lifetime, pps, fastest laps and dare I say it in the current lobby environment consecutive clean races seems impossible unless I want to deliberately start and finish last and plod around keeping out of the way. The only 'achievement' I can really track and be proud of is races completed.

Which brings me on to DR. I had two good races at Gr3 Maggiore with a p3 and a p5 last week and pumped up my DR/D to around 1300. But I know all it will take is the first time I actually enter a race at Catalunya with As Bs and Cs I'm done and that bad boy is going flat back down to DR1.

I'm not consistent enough to finish top half every time I race and of course with the matchmaking it's nigh on impossible at the moment.

I'm quite proud of my SR. I will gladly drive clean and slow, but that is so stupid a scale that again you can't really set a lot of stock in that as a status - look at me I'm SR/S rated as a drive, a long with half the world who were SR/E 2 races ago but some how stayed clean for a couple of laps.

So what do we do? The game doesn't give nowt. So unless we find a regional/local league/where we can record stuff and reward manually we kinda end up having to settle for the fact that at least I know I finished 3rd once.

Or do we go sod it, I'm going to go for the win, even if it's a bit dirty and spoils someones day in the process - someone who is probably like me just trying to keep it on the tarmac and enjoy themselves in the process.

I don't know. Maybe PD just need to find a way to recognise and reward you good drivers, without taking away my hard earned DR just because I got dumped in a DR/A&B lobby or a Destruction Derby race I wasn't ever going to win.

G'day gentlemen - new to this forum, fairly new to this game, GT Sport player and PS4 owner since December '18. Hope for many a good exchange in here.

Can attest to the previously mentioned strength of the F-Type on Circuit de Catalunya, 2 wins in 2 races so far :D

Looking forward to a good run in the Gr.1 race tonight, these beasts see way too little action :-(

Regards from Denmark :-)

Man I seriously don’t understand these people. Freakin greedy for getting passed or lose something else. I don’t get why people need to ruin the races for other people who like the race to get the best out of there selfs and just get better at the game. This is the reason I olmost hesitate to do sportmode because it will mess up my love of racing I have in GTS. Does GT planet has some own “tournaments”/lobby’s to join? If not I would love to starts something like this. This is also the reason I race at GTSRL.

I said i was taking a break this week, does one day count lol. I got itchy this morning so i jumped back behind the wheel.only did one race with 5 laps to warm up. I was barely hitting 31's before thae race and realised my 30.121is a bit better than i though in comparison to most of my list, with the exception of @Pigems and @Mistah_MCA alien laps. Had a reasonable race and held my spot till the end for a 5th place finish. Gonig to run some laps now before work to see if i can crack a 29.xxx

Since I've tried A & B, twice each, and really disliked them both, I figured I'm gonna have to do race C. I did some time trials, instead of Q laps, because I'd rather run from the back, initially. I did some A/T laps and some M/T laps. For me, A/T was a bit faster. The transmission seems to use the right gears in the right places (anyone else notice that?). A top 100 time should be no problem. That's good news for me, because I'd rather not have to screw around with shifting during the race. 👍

Tried Race C. Quit.

Started 4th. Hit by multiple people on T1. Regenerate last. Stuck behind cars swerving unpredictably, wait a lap for a chance to pass, then get bumped off by them.

I decided a while back never to quit. I've quit twice in 3 races this week.

Hate Lake Maggie. Hate the Gr.4 TT. Managed one qualifying lap in it before the race, understeering straight off on the other two.

Up to 9th after the first corner. Made it to 3rd by lap four because of various penalties and squabbling. I thought I'd managed to avoid most of the carnage as a guy took a penalty on the back straight and tried to block three of us when he unghosted and I went straight past it on the right. Ended up getting punted by him into the left hander, and I had nobody to follow for the final lap so I finished 8th.

I really, really hate this car.

Well i switched to manual, which i wasn't using cuse i was having a hard time finding the rhythem of this car (Which i also hate) but i wanted that early 3rd gear on the last turn. Took a while and i still cant feel the rhythem for driving this car in manual, but i hit a 29.545 so now i will go to work.

I wish for good races to you all for the rest of the day :gtpflag:

Hi ! I am sorry to intrude since my question has nothing to do with what you are talking about ! How did you save the picture you posted? Do they save automatically or what do you need to do ?? I have barely 10 online races so. NEWBIE ! thanks !!

I got lucky his penalty time had not depleted all the way yet.
1DpLPpc.gif

I see this all the time now. As soon as the time is gone the ghost becomes a semi solid object impervious to getting hit, yet able to bump or stop other cars with impunity. The penalty zone is now the most dangerous place on the track. 0.5 sec penalties are the worst as it slows the car in front of you down just enough to be a problem with cars behind you. I rather pull over when a car in front has 0.5 sec and I have someone close behind.

It's still better than what we had before where this could happen at any place on the track. But it didn't take long to get widely abused yet again.
