Disclaimer: Sorry - I started writing this and then it got long.

The 'problem' with the daily races and PD's current set up -

It is half-baked. It wants to be the real driving simulator. It wants to have its FIA accreditation and all things e-sports competition. But it also wants to make money (shock horror) and wants a large player base.

As such you get a this real sort of mongrel product with a league system to seperate/rank/recognise ability and performance but run the actual process of this in an arcade setting with races on a continuous cycle so that you can essentially just rinse and repeat.

It could be one of these.

1) e-Sports racing game encouraging a Pro-Standard. Achieved by less Daily Races.

Pros
  • This will encourage people to understand consequences of 'bad driving' because they can't just go and get their DR/SR back straightaway.
Cons
  • More exclusive, you cant just dip in the game knowing there will be a race in x amount of minutes. You'd have to schedule your life around the game if you wanted to compete (- which is the main reason why I dont do FIA stuff). Which will restrict the casual gamer.

2) An arcade racing game with little emphasis on improvement. Achieved by not ranking Daily Races

Pros
  • People can then practise their race craft without worrying about the consequence of their actions. Basically an automatically created and matched race without needing a community/friends to go start a lobby with.
Cons
  • The only way to improve your rankings will be through FIA events, which again become exclusive due to time contraints.
  • Cheap and dirty arcade racing for the most part. No consequences, so will anyone actually care?

Or it stays as is. I think its alright. Its not perfect, but as its not one or the other above, it never will be. I'm sure there will be many of us on here who think it should be one or the other, and that's totally justified. But either way you choose there'd probably be less people chatting in this thread, because there would be less people playing it.

In its current guise you get a set up where the 'PRO-aliens' can do what they do driving off into the sunset. You can get the 'Arcaders' crashing into everything and generally not caring and then you can get the 'AMs' sitting in the middle doing their best (and some very well) to aspire to greatness but very often being crashed into. Its kinda OK in my book.

Personally I'd just put more emphasis in the in-game community (not to say that GTPlanet isn't good enough!). If there was a better interface/way and an encouragement to communicate then it would allow more in depth pre and post race chatter, so that people would hang around, have proper conversations about the race, call out, apologise and report with actual moderation. People would probably respect each other more.

I reckon half the incidents we moan about here - rams, punts, unclean passes - are accidental. But because we're encouraged to just 'have another go', we stop caring about others and just do it all again. Most of the people I want to apologise to after the race have already quit by the time I get around to working out what to say and who to. Likewise those I need to call out. Slowly you just build a culture that lacks respect.

That's my tuppence worth anyway.

Done Race B, started 8th place with WRX in the middle of Huracans and some FF cars. Surprisingly done decent, could have went to 5th place but messed up mid sector since AWD cars are nightmare to work on the exit for me (almost caught up to 5th as the huracan on front messed up badly the final exit)
Final result: 6th and even got a sub 39 for lap time so i'm happy.

Racing in the morning is much better. 2 for 2 so far.
kIwd.jpg

Stable, decent speed, not so good brakes, 1:50.6 best lap

lIwd.jpg

Better brakes but over a second slower than the M3 on this track.

The penalty zone almost ruined it in the last lap. Being careful is a weakness that gets taken advantage of straight away. However this time it paid off as all 2 went flying off at the last corner and the third got a 5 sec penalty lol.

Side by side into Ascari with someone who just served a penalty, I keep my distance to that.

Time for one more.

Oh well, no go, too dirty already. Bonus gone in lap 1 already.

A MacLaren, a GT-R and a Brazilian, perfect storm. There was absolutely no reason for the yellow car to bump me at corner exit, but he simply had to. SR Down for me. I got him back later, no bumping allowed. Cost me 4 SR, but hopefully he won't do it again.

Somehow got reset again, it really is ridiculous. SR shifts too fast from C to S and from S to reset. Twice i got 3 second penalties when I was passing guys who lost it, hit me and then spun off .....then the reset. I mean REALLY?

Then i was in P1 in my last race, a faster driver who had no pressure from behind and 5 full laps to get by, absolutely barges his way through, pushing my all over the place but not off the tarmac fully. So no penalty for him but I am now 5 seconds adrift.

Getting tiresome.

Good morning!
Decided to try a cup of joe and a return to the battleground!
Started sixth in a room from a plus to c.
A couple dr b were up the grid from me...
A b behind overtook me lap 1.
I did my usual hang around and pressure strategy and it paid off.
The b guys ahead ran wide final lap off track on the fast left just before the downhill run to the triple apex right hander. Sweet.
Clean race bonus no dr loss 4th and up to 98sr.
The a drivers went 12345.
The b guys were quick but loose and unsettled. Always nice to see people thanking each other after and the ‘that race was incredible’ getting thrown out there.
Yank tank nice and stable.
Good start to a day.

Stay thirsty, my friends.

Tried the Ford GT at Monza and I recommend people not to. I really like this car (handles well for me, turbocharged engine is nice etc etc.) but it's just too hungry for fuel. I had to pit on L4 and a full refuel wasn't enough (too bad my pit crew couldn't fit a bigger engine) which also takes a toll on tyres since you're having to go an extra lap on Ms.

I had to use a combination of FM2/3 on the straights or whenever I could catch a draft with some short-shifting in between. I just barely made it with 0.2 fuel remaining. I wasn't completely sure of what to expect although I had a feeling FM1 and going flat-out wasn't going to be good enough for this behemoth.

Atenza serving me well in Race A&C with the A/A peoples. I started a new game(18th). Been a while since I went HUD Off in cockpit. Turns out I'm much faster without the distractions.
Racing hard with respect. Don't think I've ever raced him before.

Did two Race C. The first, I started 6th, finished 9th. Since HUD was off, When I pitted, I was at 2.1 Laps of fuel. That was the most I conserved this whole week. Felt like I was gunning it all race. As I was keeping up with the GT-Rs in their slipstream. I gather players were on Fuel 2 or short shifting.

Second race was even crazier. I started 6th again and fell to 7th, due to some unsavory characters. When I pitted, I was at 2.9 laps of fuel. Again, I was trigger to the controller all race. I was 5th for a spell and was being gifted 4th when a GT-R I was tailing served its penalty. Got 3rd when a Lancer speared off. Watching the replay, the Atenza has some serious corner entry speed and exit momentum. Awesome stuff.

I brought my ps4 to the hotel and i might have to give race b a try with the ole controller later and see how many people i hit lol. Fiendin for my wheel! I should have never came on here and read the race stories lmao. Alternatively i might just do the nostalgic 79 and make some bank in hopes of an update soon.

I gave race C a try with predictable results given what I’ve read on here. My qualifying was rubbish (done in the six minutes before the race) which put me at the back of the pack. No worries, I just wanted to motor along and see how many spots I could pick up with a calm and orderly drive but it was not to be. My efforts to brake early because I was right up on the bumper of two cars was rewarded with a trip to the gravel, courtesy of one behind me who had just paid out a penalty. C’mon! If I can learn to drive in traffic, anyone can. Jeez!

Most of the rest of my lost time was my own dumb fault. Apparently the end of lap 3 is too early to try an undercut and I ran out of gas a half a lap from the end. That first chicane is a killer—the gravel on the second turn seems to have its own gravitational pull...

I think Monza, glorious though it is, is not suitable for online racing or by amateurs. I can’t see myself trying that track too much more, although I should so that I can improve at it.

Tried using the 458 GT3 to qualify a faster lap but didn't make it through the 1:50 which I managed on the GT Spec II. The oversteer just kicks in when you're off throttle for too long, but still manageable if you kicked in a little throttle through the corners.

Late night Race C - Grid P11 Race P14. My rear was too attractive at the first chicane, ended up doing donuts because of an idiot which I gave up chasing. The initial stint was good, fuel was on check that I made a late stop for some splash of fuel. However, a bad call made as I tried to desperately save my tires and decided on keeping the same set of Mediums. Managed to leapfrog another competitor but it was reduced to a loss because of the bad degradation that started feeling obvious.

With all the loss in traction and a late spin by someone pushing me off the straight while trying to give way, I had to limp with a bad left rear tire for the final lap. Had a post-race settlement with the offending driver with some compliments, totally happy with the outcome.

Didn't have time to race much lately. I did a few quali Laos in A and C and figured since I have a few hours for myself ... Why not try a couple of races. I didn't have that much practise time but I already know these tracks fairly well so let's have a go ....

One race C. Qualified 12th with my 1:48.745. First turn was not that bad so I thought maybe we could have a good race ! Oh well .... It lasted 1 turn :lol:. It was all pushing and shoving after that. Even got a 2 sec. penalty for protecting the inside line on a chicane and getting bumped. Apparently you're not allowed to keep a racing line :boggled:

Tired race A after that. Got 3rd and 4th place on the grid. End up 8th or 9th after turn one :banghead:. It was even worse than Monza. I guess I'll stick to campaign and custom for now.

What gets to me the most is that the one moment when I finally get some free time to enjoy some races I end up in dirty rooms. Or is it that the clean rooms are getting harder to find ..... Anyway !

So, back on track on good old Monza. Did a few races earlier but nothing too special. Had this one right now, pretty good comeback. Got punted on T1 (as per usual). P2 managed to brake fine, but got rear ended and hit me, I was reset and had to chase him back.

From then on nothing really happened. Pit at lap 5, fresh rubber and a little gas (saved fuel to try and gain some time on the leader), managed to half the gap to about 3 seconds. Then the chase restarted. He got a 1 sec penalty on the following lap and I managed to get a 0.5 sec from a dumb cut on Ascari. Gap coming down every lap and after going through Lesmo 2 we had nearly 1 sec between us. He made a small mistake when going through Ascari leaving me his slipstream. The AMG is not so fast on a line, even more when compared to the F1, so I had to outbrake him, we made contact and I get the win.

You're much kinder in your assessment than i would be. You were uber smooth, skilled and perfectly patient. he was a bit more on the ragged edge and closed the door on you a few times and i think given you were on his tail for 3 laps without a tap, and he pushes you wide to pass you in the final corner .... dog act.

Come race with us tomorrow night, 2 runs of each Daily Race, and it’s always clean and friendly.

The 2:30 pm slot still delivers
iJwd.jpg

This track doesn't really like the BMW, 1:50.6 best lap but easy to upset in Ascari.

I had to concede a few places to pull it off
ztrGPah.gif

Get blocked by a diver, have to let the next car through.

Coming out of the pit the car behind me had his nose ghosted in my rear bumper. I stayed right, he crossed the pit line all the way to the left edge to out brake and dive in front of me at the chicane. I guess it should be a wall instead of a line! I practically had to stop to avoid. Luckily there was no more traffic from behind at the time.

Last lap I let a Mustang through. I already saw in the last 2 laps that he was faster in Ascari and Parabolica thus didn't want to risk a tap right before the line for 9th place. Thus I indicated and lifted slightly to let him ahead before T1. t was the right move as I indeed could not keep up in the final section.

Another one down, that's 24 out of 35. Back on track, I might actually pull it off :) Then comes dirty Saturday :nervous:

I played on my second account today. I saw gotmaxpower on my first monza race, it was okay even though the Peugeot Vgt ( my only Gr3 car on this account) is terrible to drive on the exit of ascari.

Then I bought a mustang and i got punted 4 times and I finished last.
Then I finished first after a race where some people decided to show how stupid they were. Video coming soon.

Will you be posting the room here? I'd like to try after FIA races.

I do most nights, but there is a thread for it where I post it every Saturday, there’s a link at the bottom of my posts to the thread. Just shoot me a Friend Request on PSN so you will be able to see the room, you can jump in any time or leave any time, it’s just for fun.

Yeah 100% done for the week. Don't enjoy Race A and B, C was the only one i wanted to enjoy but even the inside of T1 i get divebombed in, then people blocking and not leaving space on the Ascari.
Got even a penalty because i had to cut the green part of T1 since the racer ahead decided to leave the gap open and immediately close it.

Had 2 Mustangs playing bowling and a F-Type late breaking a lot.

Game gave me a chance to start up front, but since yuyuko-san and @05XR8 are not sighted there, I decided to outbrake myself on L1 T1 and decided to play the recovery game. Pitted on Lap 5 for a splash and dash and ended up finishing in 3rd on real worn tyres.

here is the video. I made the mistake to share a screenshot instead instead of a video (somehow when you do this, it zeros the memory and you can't save any of the video before the screen shot) so I had to record the replay instead. I skiped some uninteresting parts

at 1.32, I don't know what happened. I put my nose on the inside, ready to move away if he decides to go for the inside but he braked too late and didnt even try ? maybe he was afraid to crash in me ? weird

at 2.00 I switch to another driver. This guy (you will see) repetitively cut the first chicane without being respawned (he sometimes gets a .5 penalty for it?) Every lap.

at 3.38 an idiot weave upon braking to prevent me from overtaking.
he repeats the manoeuvre at 3.58

at 4.10 the chicane cuter cuts the chicane again....

at 5.40 respectful battle with a finnish guy, gives me lots of space .... and the spanish cuts again...

6.49, the spanish cuts too much and get reset... but cuts again just after... pathetic

8.00 & 8.39 a spanish guy that punted in the previous race blocks like an idiot (I wasnt surprised)
at 9.30 he does it on someone else

I won but still, it's ridiculous to see so much of this behaviour
