So after taking a couple of days off Sport Mode in order to get myself familiar with the wheel I did my first race at the Nürburgring. My main objective was simply to survive the race and not completely obliterate myself, which... I kinda did? Though it still ended better than I was expecting.

I started on P11, with mostly non-qualifiers behind me. The first half of Lap 1 actually went pretty well, everyone raced respectfully and there weren't too many crashes, I even made up two positions after a not necessarily chaotic, but for me a pretty bad first corner.
Now obviously that was way too ideal of a situation to continue for long. I ended up ramming someone into the wall (though of course I didn't get a penalty for it) and then proceeded to have a complete meltdown, losing about 20 seconds at what is probably my least favorite corner on the track:

Didn't really meet anyone else for the next couple of minutes, then an Austrian messed up bad somewhere between the two carousels and I overtook him while he was serving his 10 seconds worth of penalties. Also, I didn't really pay attention to fuel so I had to go into the pits to pick up some, which I probably would've done anyway considering this was basically a test race and I didn't want to worry about strategy for now.

Shortly after entering the Northern Loop for the second time, I noticed that a Spaniard ahead of me was really struggling, making one mistake after another, and the gap between him and I was going down fast. He then proceeded to drive off track at a very bad place, I panicked and decided to overtake, which could've ended really badly, and I'm actually pretty shocked I managed to pull it off:

different angle:

For the rest of the race I stayed about 2-5sec behind the Russian guy, but never quite got close enough to him. Ended the race in P14, a result which I had mixed, though mostly positive feelings about. I also feel pretty confident on the wheel now, and hopefully the rest of the week won't be too bad.

(Who am I kidding, it's the Nürburgring, everything is guaranteed to go to ****. lol)

That's debatable.

Every opinion is "debatable". However, if you were to assemble a list of the world's best tracks, those you would most want to visit and lap in anger (as in a real vehicle, actually going fast), Spa is most definitely one of the world's great race tracks.

If someone offered me a day of lapping at Spa, I don't care what the vehicle would be, I would go, I would Schumacher that day on a bicycle if I had to.

Yes, I know, some person, some where, will mention some obscure track that they think is amazing but no one else has heard of. We all have opinions.

I am seriously looking forward to the first daily race at Spa.

I think I've got a video that can beat that. :D

But my video can't beat that. I've never seen the launch ramp at the final turn.

I hope the guy behind you got a hearty laugh out of that.

Sounds like you would enjoy the rally tracks. :P

That's Def Leppard, not Van Halen.

Check the PS store. I picked up the remastered version for $5 a few months ago.

It has its own share of challenges when it comes to mastery. Some people enjoy saying that they car run with the best at any track, so you gotta learn them all & Spa is a big one.

That's debatable.

It'll be worth the laughs. Also, divebombers.
I can not stand the r
Ally in GTS. I am used to run Colin McRae and rally masters in games and Swedish gravel roads IRL.

And the quote @JoeyLeonine , to me it's not Def Leppard, it's the Kurgan. And that is one tough guy.

How's the weather there? Here it was crap, rain wind cold. I was already feeling a cold coming on, now definitely feeling under the weather after taking the kids trick or treating. It was miserable out. The kids were happy anyway, free candies.

Pretty windy and it was snowing. Typical halloween here lol

tried to take my 2 year old out but she was not having it.

Man, if only I could put the lap together.

Your original statement said "probably one of the greatest tracks". That in itself pretty much throws out the idea of one track to rule them all. Most enthusiasts would have a list. Not so much as one that they would want to drive the most, but to check off the most that they can from their list.

Some great battles with @Pigems, @watto79 and the rest of the lobby tonight, thanks for the races!

I'm sure it was for those that could run. My PS4 must have been talking a whole 'nother language to the server Pigems's room was on. My car didn't move from the grid in the 2 races I was lined up for & the other times I tried to get on track, my car crashed into the pit walls. :dunce:

There *is* "one track to rule them all".... naturally......it's the 'ring! :P

I don't have the stones to run the Green Hell anywhere near a record time. Because of my time in GT games, I'd be afraid that the track might grow teeth & bite me.

I've had my fill of daily races for the day. Now I have to edit some videos, including the epic crash at Big Willow from the other night (which I've already shared to the game). If any of you can't wait to see it, just search for tags "Viper" & "Willow" & look for my name as the uploader.

@MikeV27 Ah, you were one of the ones to get rammed off / into the wall by that Argentinian. I followed his handy work to the straight where he had to serve 13.5 sec in penalties. It would easily have been more but he ran out of targets. He left to SR.B. He narrowly missed me when he tried to punt me at the NGP hairpin, then punted the car behind you 2 corners later.

I seen him take out the Ferrari behind me, so I knew I was next lol. I tried to avoid getting hit by him but he still rammed me into the wall. I told him SR B is too good for him in the chat but he did not respond.

That race is fun though. I should have started earlier in the week

A lot of people won't like this. Whatever.
Spa is an ok track, I guess.
But I'd say it's hugely overrated by all the people who've been pissing their pants over it for the last two years.
That final chicane is as stupid as Barcelona's. What's the 🤬 point?

The point is, it has the rain!!!! Please let it be rainy when it comes up in the dailies. The more rain the better. When the N24 is done I'll go see which version has the most rain. They are all different on Tokyo so likely on Spa as well. Btw that chicane looks awesome in the dawn rain setting. The sun hits it just right. That's the point of that chicane

I guess part of it is that it's a track a lot of people have driven in real life, like Nordschleife?

I thought this week's Daily Race A seemed familiar, I see we did indeed have the exact same combination very recently:
https://www.gtplanet.net/gt-sport-daily-races-20190812/

I did 1:04.0 last time, only managed 1:04.1 so far this time :(

You know I’ve been on over an hour on the primary just putting in my qual for b, ended up in the Stang. Couldn’t duplicate my Ferrari lap. Won’t run it on primary. Stuck with fia cuz long race...
I tried Spa one day on Asetto and was like this is not my thing. Haven’t tried it in this game yet. I did buy that sweet Mercedes though. That thing is sick. Now I gotta take it for a rally lol.
I dunno. Spa has fame fanfare, very vocal Internet forum types that hate everything but for some reason love Spa.
Really my favorite tracks in game are Interlagos, Brands, Catalunya, and Panorama. Wait, and Seaside. Seaside is cool.
Imo LeMans is way better than Spa. Lol and it’s not my favorite track.
The track I really like is Mugello. It just suits my eye.
I am starting to really like Willow more now that I can drive it sort of. Have balls, or crash. I like that.
Spa for me when I tried it on AC was like wtf. I also think Suzuka is a great track.

So to the daily race topic I hit my Stang time to the tenth on both accounts. My Ferrari lap was an outlier for the b race.
I have the same theme everywhere. I have much trouble getting really fast qual but when I do I have massive success.
Spa.

Meh. Gimme Sonoma or Mugello :). That tracks is great fun. I kinda dread even trying Spa in this game. It’s like okay prepare for 2 weeks of suck, then when there’s a race, get destroyed by all the people who already know it well. I just can’t get into it. Yeah Spa rain?
f that.

Track knowledge to me is sooooo HUGE and takes me a TREMENDOUS amount of time to get. This game has soooo much content to do. There’s tracks I have never even run.

I didn't really mean to insult the entire track, but when there's a chicane that make everyone almost come to a stop, I don't get it. The rest of the track is pretty good, I guess.
I know what you mean about Willow. As you can probably tell from my crash videos, I often drive aggressively (except for the 2 consecutive right-handers at Brands. Those scare me, and I probably go too slow there :nervous:).

Yay, the races are clean and fast tonight. I put the Lexus back on top of my list :D

8:24.449 (8:23.010) Lexus RC F '17, good on fuel
8:24.674 (8:29.450) Corvette C7, tight on fuel
8:26.083 (8:31.016) Ford GT, good on fuel
8:26.391 (8:26.630) AMG, good on fuel
8:26.532 (8:30.977) Citroen GT, decent on fuel

Still not beat my old record but it really comes down to a good combination of draft opportunities. Just now I was pretty much on my own for most of lap 2, so can still go faster while drafting another fast driver. At the start of the week the best I could do was 8:29 in the Lexus.

Tomorrow I'll revisit some other cars. Vette, AMG, F Type, Supra, Mustang can all do better. Supra, Mustang and maybe Vette should benefit from fm2 in the twisty bits. They were very tight on fuel. AMG and F type should do better now the races are cleaner and faster.

Then there was an A+ driver doing 8:18 in the Ferrari  I might feel fast, I'm still slow

Ending the night with a close 3rd place finish with clean race bonus. Great night racing on the N24! The Lexus fits that track like a glove, for me at least. My DR is back up to 42.4K after the troubles with the Huracan, Ferrari and a disconnect brought it back down to 39.2K. It was up to 43.1K with the Peugeot RCZ. Not that far to beat that. (if the power and internet stay on, stormy here)

Aye. I have it. I just need to redownload it.

Drove Spa in the rain in Super GT’s lobby. All I’ve got to say is...

Ok never mind.
Spa in the new Merc is cool.
It’s no Interlagos or Brands, but it’s alright.
It’s way better than the awful Red Bull ring I’ll say that :)
The design to me is like well let’s put one of every type of turn.
I dunno, it’s alright. It’s not my favorite by a long shot.
The fast downhill left with the massive runoff? Online at low b and below it will be wreckfest.
For online it will be chaos for most with a few fortunate souls driving alone out front. Jmo

Edit add rain, bah

I don't know why, I don't care why Sonoma isn't in a new GT game. I also loved Laguna Seca. I have to get my fix for both of them from Project Cars 2. And that game does a very good job in its rendering of those tracks. I don't know if PD doesn't believe whatever cost the tracks request, it isn't worth it or whatever their reason. If PD wants to keep GTS as the darling of e-sports, they will have to add to the roster. LC is a sports car meca. It tends to overshadow Sonoma. But both have their place in top tier racing games. Also, I'm staying as far away from Spa in the rain as I can.

I just did a couple races in the rain in the r92cp to unwind from n24 :) Track cut penalties are going to be the decisive factor in the daily races there... It's going to be chaos for a while with all the high speed track re-entries from those comfy run offs. Plus I hope PD has thought of the "tap a car and go sraight at Eau Rouge" problem that will surely come up. At least there's a wall at the final chicane but you can still cut a lot there.

It seems dusk has the least rain/spray, noon the most. You can hardly see a thing behind a car at noon. Fun!

@NoStopN Monaco! So many jummy wall penalties
