3 lights to flag wins of the 4 Bathurst races since i have returned. DR up tot a high of over 36K, so i am officially an A driver. I will be found out soon enough on tracks I am not so comfy with but for now i will take it.

The bad news, in the 4th race i was leading when I was hammered off the road and I got a 5 second penalty whilst the guy that hit me got nothing. Like waht? I then foolishly tried to make a pass on the outside of the kink for P3 and the other guy nudged me off by accident, and i copped another 5 seconds. I mean really...it's...it's just nuts how bad the penalty system is.

I almost ran out of gas in the Vette though. Finished with 0.3 left and that was taking into account a bogus 7 second & 4 second penalty I received. I was also short shifting a bit on lap 1 until I got the tires warmed up.

@ToddSalad, With the corvette you apparently need to shift at much lower revs than with other cars. Probably the power curve actually peaks at lower revs, so there is no point in redlining it. At least that's how TheKie25 was driving it the other day. He refers exactly to that in the following timestamp:

I think @Invisigoth means the Beetle..

Erm, yeh 👍.

Please forgive me for asking, but there must be a better way around. The streets are on fire, the roses are dead and gone. On top of this Mountain of Madness, it's a long way down, so long....In the 11 mins prior to race start I just couldn't fulfil the potential of the Aston. Despite that, my prediction of a DR/B/C grid was wrong, and I found myself starting a shocking P3/19

This race was crap from start to finish, with a collection of people who didn't seem to grasp even the most basic concepts of race craft. I'm pretty crap, but these people take the cake!

The Nightmare starts at T1. The jag in P2 ended in the sand at Hells, The guy in P1 was a bit wayward, missed the sand but lost a bit of velocity. I got a bit sideways, so the guy behind in the Supra (the only one) makes it to the front. The guy in the Supra overcooks Griffins, hits the outter wall, then hits me and spins me out on the re-bound. I fall back to P5, then hit by a push passing Porsche and slam into the wall at the kink before The Cutting. Down to P6, then up to P4 coming out of The Cutting. A guy in a Pug ghosted at Skyline then unghosted just as I was going through it. 2s penalty . I pull over to the right while I serve my penalty, and loose 3 places. I re-gain one place when someone screwed up entry to The Chase, but I pick up a 1s penalty for bumping the car in front.

Second lap and I have the inside in front by a bit side by side with a 626. I'm not in position for my usual braking point, get 2 wheels on the outside edge of the ripple strip, then proceed to rotate, slide wide through the sand, over correect the exit, then fishtail follow by spinning out :banghead:. I was not happy... and I still had that 1s penalty . By the time I hit Griffins, I was down to P10, and this was just the start of "The Troubles".

I was stuck behind a Mustang who was having a hard time keeping the bucking bronco under control. I saw no way around him, so had to keep holding back when I was ready to open the taps. As a result I had a Jag up my arse. He crawled around Forrest so slowly that I couldn't get a nice drive through to get past him on Conrod. It was very frustrating, but he was in front, and he has the right to take the corners however he needs to. Entering the chase he had braking problems, and I had to change direction to avoid hitting him. That unsettled the car and set up a series of fishtails ending with yet another spin out :banghead:. I was a very unhappy chappie :irked:. I finished the lap P13.

Side by side at the kink at the end of Conrod there was contact with the Beetle in P12 and we both went off. This race was getting to the point where I was considering a rage quit. I got going again before the Beetle and started chasing down the Supra, who had fallen down to the back for some reason. I caught up to him over the top of the Mountain, and was right on him down Conrod. He insisted on sitting in the middle, blocking me from passing. I was less than impressed.

Across the top of the Mountain I'm right on him again, he kicks up some dust before Skyline, then pulls over and slams me into the wall. I spin 3 times and unghost with a 1s penalty :banghead:. The Porsche that passed me on Conrod whilst I was serving my penalty was knocked off by the Supra at The Chase. At Griffins I was side by side on the inside. He decides to turn in on me, and ends up hitting the wall and spinning. I finish lap 6 in P9.

Closing in on the Road Block Mustang. H got a bit wayward at Sulman and I was once again being held up through The Dipper . I was right behind him all the way to the kink at Conrod where I was side by side. I had to back off because I was on the outside, and traditionally that results in me strait lineing through the grass, across the track at The Chase and into the wall on the other side :scared:. He locked up and I passed him entering The Chase. He and the Beetle behind him got me up the inside at Griffins. Again at the kink I had to back off, but got the Mustang at Murray's Corner 👍. I finished the race P8, bitter and disappointed .

SR took a big hit, down 14. DR up 230. <sigh> Another day travelling DR/C :odd:.

Some of those DR C races are mental.
It's not any better in DR B. But there are some real gems of clean, hard, competitive racing in between so I can stand a mayhem madness from time to time.

After running qualifying laps for three days now and getting my time down to 2:06.5 with the AMG I decided to race the mountain today.

I was fourth in the grid and after the turk in 3rd spun in the dipper I advanced to 3rd. I nearly catched 2nd on Conrod but decided to back off. I was racing alone until the end of lap 5, then I went off a the chase and resurfaced in 5th. 6th decided to pass off track in the apex of Hell corner. That lap went fine until the Dipper where I got punted, slammed into the wall and got 5 seconds. I rage quit and will never race again this week.

Been having fun in race c this week at Bathurst, been having some good results and a couple where I've made up 10+ spots. Been using the Aston as it has good top end speed and is really stable over the top of the hill which is where I usually struggle at on Bathurst. Seems to be a really good variety of cars being used as well which is great to see.

Well thats my issue then! Thank you for posting this. I'll shift when kie shifts. Looking forward to improving my lap time.

From last night: In my head there was a cars width so I could just nip through the middle for a spectacular double overtake. In reality you need more than a cars width if you're driving around a corner. I can't believe that a) there was no penalty and b) @Sven Jurgens didn't put me in the dirty driver thread.

In these situations it's almost always better to take a really high line, brake a touch early and get on the exit hard but up the inside. One of those two cars was gonna be compromised, maybe both.

well at least you had the respect to pull over at wait for him most would laugh and take the place without looking back

Tried a Race C. Started 3rd. Finished 11th. Got maybe 1 clean lap.

Some dude with issues tried to torpedo me and called me various names after the race. I have no idea why. Just needed to be angry at someone I guess.

I waited until today to race. That's enough for me this week.

Lol that lag!!! On my screen you were much further back and pushed the rear left of my car out with your nose in a lag wobble, hence my car entering the turn sliding before it suddenly shimmies to the right in your video.

No penalty because of lag I guess, hence you don't get to be on my penalty reel! (gonna be a long one this week)

Anyway you had me laughing for half a lap for trying that. Then you kept pitting. Afraid to come into punt range? :mischievous:

Yes. But I'm not showing you. I know what you'd do that person if you saw it.

Aww, I'm starting to get really good at punt and enter the corner at the perfect speed right after

And the Mustang on the inside was me ;) great racing from the back with you yesterday fighting for the FL

I'm pretty sure one of the cars spilled some oil on that curb at the top of the mountain. :scared:

This curb has caught me out so many times in that exact same way. Hooks the rear tire and sends you in the wall. I wish there was a bit of the green curb stone on the outside so it wasn't such an abrupt drop to the gravel, but oh well.

One thing that's helped me is when I know I'm close to the curb or a wheel has slipped over it I'll straighten out my steering and just ride it till it ends before turning back to take the left side of the track. What causes the spin is the angle of the front wheels when the rear drops off.

Did three Daily Cs in the Mustang this afternoon. Found out in qualifying that the car feels much more confident through corners on TC 1, eventually setting a best time of 2:02.982 in the various sessions I did recently. Couldn't have asked for a more fitting combo following the Bathurst 12 Hour race last weekend.

15:30
Starting in 7th, my aim for the first race was to see how well the Mustang would behave in lobby conditions with the TC adjustment applied. Did not expect much, but was able to close in on the first six cars before passing a white and blue Supra on Lap 2 as he ran wide at Griffins. Followed the train for 3rd (2 AMGs and a certain Frenchman in another Supra) round, setting purple first sectors as the group split up. Had a couple of wall brushes and a few small mistakes, which prompted me to pit on Lap 5 as I felt that the tyres had lost their edge. It turned out that I was the only one in the lobby to do so, but the decision would ultimately pay off.

Following side-by-side contact at The Chase, the leading Portuguese driver in the Mercedes gets slapped with an 8-second penalty as he makes a move on his effective British teammate. I pass him just at the end of Mountain Straight, reclaiming 6th and focusing on getting the Mustang home as cleanly as possible. The fresher rubber means that I reel in the Supra, keeping close to his bumper as we both see a quartet of cars forming a line for the lead. On Lap 8, a good tow down Conrod Straight allows me to pass the Irish driver up the inside of The Chase, seconds before the red and white Mercedes punts the French Supra into the AMG-liveried Englishman at Turn 21. Two more places gained, plus another when the Frenchman serves a 4-second penalty for his part in the collision (though I have to say that the AMG looked to be more at fault from watching the replay). With the surviving AMGs still battling between themselves up ahead, I was more than content with taking home 3rd on my first go.

Then this happened:

As I came through The Chase one last time, both AMGs on the left went off at Turn 21, the red and white car receiving a tap from the GruppeM 999 replica as they bounced across the grass. Both re-joined just before the Armor All bridge, and to my utter amazement I snatch the lead on the inside on the run into Murrays. Had to put two wheels onto the grass in doing so, but what an unbelievable finish - a 'Red Bull scenario' on the final stretch! Couldn't help but laugh as I took the chequered flag and soaked in the glory.

16:00
Was still laughing a little bit when I entered the 16:00 slot, once again lining up 7th on the grid. As the first race went so well, the initial plan was to repeat the one-stop strategy that brought me extra pace over the front-runners. The opening lap suggested I had the potential to get another good Top 5 finish, as the Mustang again followed a quartet of cars battling for 3rd. One of the yellow Corvettes runs and gets biffed wide at Murray's, allowing me to take 6th. Sadly, Lap 2 was where everything unravelled. First, I outbraked myself going into Griffins, leaving me no choice but to let the Viper behind me through. Then, in following the Viper round, we both go off at Turns 21 and 22; on the exit I slide onto the grass and end up slamming broadside on into the tyre stack as I try not to lose too much momentum. The impact throws my car into a 360 degree spin across the track. Rather than risk another collision with oncoming traffic, I stick to the outside until the Mustang is safely at Murrays.

It was at this point that I decided to see whether the Mustang could do the no-stopper. Even after being a little more adventurous on mix adjustments, it was clear that fuel was not going to be an issue for the Ford, so the aim was to keep going and make the most of any small incidents and penalties up ahead. That I did, and by Lap 5 I was back up to 14th and closing on a couple of battling Corvettes. A personal best of 2:03.994 showed that the Mustang still had good pace even after the earlier smash. Next time through Griffins, the yellow-liveried French car runs wide at Griffins, and it seems like I have the move stuck as I give plenty of space on the outside going into The Cutting. Despite this, the Corvette touches my rear bumper, and we both slam into the wall while the red Supra in 15th catches up. It is fair to say that it wasn't the smoothest lap I had done, and indeed I briefly relinquish 14th by going wide into Turn 21. Still, I followed the pair closely, and a slide from the Supra coming out of Turn 22 hands me back the place.

On the final lap, the French Corvette runs wide again at Griffins, this time resulting in a quicker and contact-free pass. Then, as I navigate The Chase, the 10th-placed Nissan slams into the tyres, retiring on the spot. The resulting 12th place finished not only proved that the Mustang could do the no-stop, but also set competitive lap times while doing so even if consistency was patchy in a few places.

16:30
Last up was the 16:30, which was pre-empted by an unsuccessful attempt to improve my qualifying time. Regardless, I found myself starting 5th, two places up on each of my earlier runs. Like last time, I kept up with the group of leading drivers, up until the moment where the GT-R in front ran over the kerb at Turn 22 and fish-tailed in front of me as we went under the Armor All bridge. Having to jerk to the outside, I ended up losing a lot of ground trying to outbrake the GT-R through Murrays, which along with a trip to the gravel at Hell Corner dropped me down to 9th as others took advantage of my errors. Despite a few more unforced mistakes, I was still able to catch up the trio battling for sixth, but not able to make any moves. On Lap 4, I brake a little too late going into Turn 21 and just avoid hitting the grey AMG in front; while the group bunches up, another GT-R behind us brakes far too late, running into the back of my Mustang and killing my momentum. A frustrating situation to be in, but thankfully not too severe.

By Lap 5, the yellow and red GT-R begins to struggle on his more worn out fronts, allowing me two chances to take 8th. Had to back out of the first through Conrod and The Chase, but eventually pulled clear the next time we headed up Mountain Straight. Soon, I began reeling in the group for 5th place, lead by the Viper from earlier. All of us benefited from a ridiculous incident at the front. Following a tense and overtly aggressive battle with an AMG, the pole-sitting NSX receives a 6-second penalty for punting the AMG into the wall at Turn 17, only to lift off the throttle, block and force him into a nasty-looking shunt down Conrod Straight. Both are out of a potential podium finish, and I am now up to 6th. Exiting Murrays, the Greek AMG driver spins after touching the kerbs - 6th becomes 5th for the Mustang. The chance to take 4th grows stronger on Lap 9 as I get a better run on the Tequila Patron-liveried Corvette down Conrod Straight. Alas, he keeps to the middle, forcing me to back out of a pass and settle for the last place in the Top 5.

A topsy-turvy session, but one where I felt I got a lot out of the Mustang once again. It seems very economical with my usual short-shifting and pre-race mix adjustments, very kind on tyres and a lot more planted through corners with TC 1 enabled. Might be able to improve my qualifying time further if I get perfect sectors throughout, but that's for another time. Anyway, first win of 2020 and a fine Sport Mode debut for the 'Venator 40R GT3'.

Before the week started someone mentioned how good the Jag is around Bathurst..
Thank you to whoever that person is that I unfortunately cannot remember the name..
What an amazing car the Jag is on that specific track, so balanced, so controlled, really glad I decided to try it..

But

It just can't keep up with the GT-R
I'm sick of being molested by GT-Rs on the straights... And you simply can't cleanly overtake them.. I make up so much time on the twisty bits with the Jag's superb handling, but then we get to the straights and they just vanish.. And it ain't like the Jag is slow... I could easily keep up with AMGs and Astons..

Screw this, I'm switching to the GT-R.. I don't care how poorly it handles or what my conscience is telling me, I WANT THAT SPEED...
Going against the meta is not working..

Also, I tend to do well with cars that are naturally-aspirated, in which both the Aston Martin and the Jaguar are as well as the Corvette. Anything with a turbo boost tends to wanna boost into oversteer, at least with my foot anyway.
I get what you mean, but the Jag is supercharged... Still, the power delivery is very smooth...

Maybe I should chill and play GTAV for the rest of the day.
Mate, we could play GTA together if you don't mind an awkward dude with no ability to create conversations and a foreign accent... I have the Casino heist with the "Big Con" approach on hard and no-one to play with..

Yeh I guess. After dealing with that Mustang, now I know how anyone behind me in the DRWF feels. Poor @Chevy Heavy was staring at "It's All Sturk's Fault" lap after lap for three races in a row!

From last night: In my head there was a cars width so I could just nip through the middle for a spectacular double overtake. In reality you need more than a cars width if you're driving around a corner.

Mad Max strikes again! :p

Race C is a true test of patience. I need to check but following an error strewn game corruption at the countdown on autopilot I believe was knocked off twice before the first corner (by which I mean the last corner, if you get me), which is a personal best.
