Are there other measurable things that you use to manage your braking?
For me the biggest thing...load cell brake period end of story. If you drive irl imo there’s no substitute.
For me I could never modulate with t300 potentiometer brake.
I couldn’t even play AC or Dirt Rally or Pc2.
After getting a load cell brake those games became playable and fun.
For Bathurst specifically Hells corner there’s a hump in the track, that’s where the initial braking point is. There’s a hump at the proper turn in point.
Most tracks have the subtle banking to bite those tires, and the right place to turn in too.
Everyone’s different. The main thing is knowing where you are relative to those points.
Imo if you just use markers they get you close but not spot on.
Same for Griffins, Same for the Chase. It’s very subtle but it’s what makes the difference.
If you get a brake pedal or input method you can modulate, you wanna ramp smoothly up not stomp.
I use the sound here too from in car...I don’t make the mistake of trying to use downshifts to slow.
That’s controversial but I prefer modulating by noise of tires and gear.
Imo you do NOT look at speedo ever during race.
I only check speeds at end of straights on replay, or glance down mid straight at certain marker points I use during q to check if a technique change was effective or not.
Interestingly if I mess around in q and change views timing initial brake input changes because the forward aft position in car changes.
Imo it’s important from in car view to really get your eyes centered in the display and set the seat height and forward back to eliminate distortion caused by parallax. Or anyways the further your eyes are from looking exactly in your direction of travel-this adds an unnecessary angle to the perspective.
I’ve become really sensitive to the visual aspects.
Visual perspective wise if nothing else consistency of position and adjustment is important.
I think it’s important also to pick an ffb setting and stick with it.
If you make too many changes it messes up the accuracy of perceiving accurately your positioning of car in game.
I personally race far better braking a little earlier rather than later or in some cases braking with less input over a greater distance. It seems to help me carry more speed than the last second slam.
I can’t reiterate enough the value of a rock solid pedal with load cell brake.
I just saw on the main page Fanatec is going to offer a new one for a very reasonable price.
Honestly I think I’m really not the fastest driver skill wise personally, but my setup and peripherals make it easier to modulate my inputs.
I gained easily 2 seconds a lap everywhere after adapting to a proper pedal set.
It took about 30-40 days but since then my results have been great.
