There should be a space now if you're still about.
Sorry I missed this. I hadn't already let it go as I was having dinner, and the room was still full by the time I had finished. :indiff:

Spent the rest of the night playing Knack, and Sonic with my grandbabies. :dopey:

Can't wait to see the pics, and vids.

Edit: I did have a good time at Beardo's Bridgestone race though. :D

@Kevstah2004 Stick with it man. I was/am in the same boat. A lot of these guys are fast, it will only make you faster being on track or chasing their ghosts. All of em have helped me get better(directly or indirectly).

@Pigems you got a lot of irons in the fire, no worries! I’ll catch the replays in the am!

I just don’t have the skill or level of concentration to do consistent laps on a pad, not mention it being compounded by the MT speed advantage, I can’t defend my position at all.

If nothing else, spend some time learning to shift. That will help. I guess I had a bit of an advantage in that I have a background flying RC planes and racing RC buggies, so using the analogue sticks is natural for me. That leaves the R/L1 and R/L 2 buttons free. Used to use R1 and L1, but after playing GT4 my finger joints took 2 years to recover. The triggers, which most seem to use for brake and throttle, I use to shift. Much nicer on the joints. L1 gets used for hand brake and R1 for "push to pass" .

I found my best setup was Square & R1 for shifting gears, Square for quickly drop down gears.

I'm AT on DS4 too. Thinking about getting the new add-on that gives you two extra buttons under the pad, since using MT comes natural for me on a wheel, but I can't make it work on the pad.

What ever works for you 👍. Just keep at it. I remember when @Pigems first turned up on the forum. Fangio he was not . He didn't just magically get fast. He put in hours of track time. I only do one race a night, spend 6 laps at most usually (more often 3) qualifying, and use a different car each night. This is one reason why I'm slow. I know I'm generally going to finish poorly against these guys, especially with production cars that require more finesse to do good laps in. It's less about the finish (although sometimes I feel like a baby seal being clubbed), and more about participating.

Besides, someone has to be a road block for these guys, it improves their race craft :p.

I've been a MT driver in RL all my life and couldn't stomach the AI idea of correct shift points, it kept getting me in to compression lockup oversteer on corner entry and losing momentum coming out of corners by holding lower gears too long. Also, in many corners it's a control advantage to be in a gear higher than the AI uses, not technically faster but it allows much better throttle control when you're a bit lower in the engine rev range.

Consequently I took the time to learn to shift MT very early in my sim driving. On DS4 I use the default L stick steer, R2/L2 for throttle/brakes and X/square for up/down gears. To begin with I used a scheme similar to Invisigoth with L stick steer, R stick throttle/brakes but this doesn't allow for "two foot driving" using a combination of throttle/brake at the same time. It still doesn't seem like I use it much but watching replays I often notice that I"m on the brakes while still holding a small amount of throttle, or on the gas before fully coming off the brakes.

On a side note, I get just as frustrated in RL with most cars AT's choice of shift points as I do in the game with the AI choice of shift points, despite the fact I'm not racing in RL.

For me the choice to go MT was even simpler. I got sick of how long it took to get going again after a crash with AT... and when I first started playing GT, I crashed early and often

I could drop gears very quickly (too quick in some cases) by using L2/R2 as my gear shift buttons. I might suggest that if there is a track that you enjoy the most in the game, do some offline races or time trials using the manual mode. Maybe try a different button setup. Just some thoughts.

I remember when I first got GTS that I put in a few good hours a couple of times a week in order to get the hang of many different cars. It helped to reduce my habit of being a bowling ball.

Great racing last night fellas, that was a lot of fun! I got to have a few really good battles, and I also made a few bonehead mistakes as well. But overall it was a wicked fun evening, thanks again to all who came out! All replays and pics are shared/tagged TPC and GTP.

He’s not wrong @Kevstah2004 , I’ve definitely put in a LOT of time to get to where I am now from where I started, and I’ve still got a long way to go to get to where I want to be. I even read a freaking book!(I don’t read books  ). Just keep at it and make sure to have focused practice, don’t just go out and rip laps, or you could just end up engraining bad habits. Always be trying to focus and work or something in practice, even if it’s just something small like a single corner.

And THAT my brother from another mother, os why we have soooooo much fun at the back!

When we're on the track with the "aliens" we've teamed up with, I do my best to out drive them for as long as I can without ruining either of our races. It does wonders for dealing with "unexpected" situations in the daily's.

One helluva shot. That was such a great neck and neck battle. The Vette starts to get really squirrely once the tires fall off their cliff, but man is it fun to drive. Killer Canadian livery there too.

I thought the pic summed up that race rather nicely. That was a really fun race, well done man!

Thanks! @Bivittavus88 made me that livery, it’s ones of my favourites. :)

Looking at it now, there are a few things I need (want) to add/change. I'll see what I can do with it when I get home, tomorrow.

@Kevstah2004 concentration is one of the hardest part for me. A good headset helped block out distractions around me.
My wife punted me to the spare bedroom in our house for racing and it’s helped on staying focused. Good luck dude whichever path you choose.
Just know us guys in the back like racing each other too while the aliens zoom off.
:D:dunce::cheers:

Are the last two pics the SF cars T Tsukuba?!

I imagine that was a bit mental.

How do you deal with the amount of movement the analog stick has?, even with the sensitivity turned to it lowest, it has way too much travel, I dunno how to combat the oversteer it has over than restricting / locking my thumb, Race A is was an absolute nightmare.

That they are, it was actually quite fun! :)
They were crazy, the finish was quite funny. I had newer tyres and the richest fuel map whilst @Mistah_MCA was trying to make it without a stop but we both caught @sturk0167 right at the end. He thought he was racing Chevy until he got nudged then looked behind, it's a shame the party chat doesn't record with the gameplay just for the oh **** moment.

I've got a new favourite corner at Bathurst after last night too:

I think with the analogue stick the speed you put it on rather than the max lock is more important, if you gradually turn in you can go to full lock half way around the corner without losing the stability. I try to do as much braking as I can in a straight line too (I see others trail braking half way around the corner but know I can't do that). You can make adjustments in the middle of the corners too with small blips of the gas and dabs of the brakes if you need more or less rotation. Race A was in road cars so they all drive a bit like jelly.

The sensitivity being down all the way will be hurting you when you're trying to change direction in the last sector even if it does stop some of the oversteer.

Good racing last night. I'm sorry if I held you up in the SF race. I was just concentrating on driving and forgot about tire wear. Also I kept hitting the e-brake button instead of overtake as they are right next to each other. :banghead: @Kevstah2004 keep at it you'll get the hang of it. Nobody cares how fast you are as long as you have a good time. I go into a lot of these races with little to no practice and finish near the back. But I have fun just racing no matter what position I'm in. I like side by side racing (maybe a little too much :)), but I know I can trust that I'm not going to get pushed off on purpose. You will develop better racecraft racing with friends.

@GOTMAXPOWER honestly you scared the hell outta me with that move into Forest’s Elbow. Completely unexpected. I was so focused on what the cars in front of me were to doing so I could react that I didn’t notice you until you were on my door.

Bravo.

I feel like I could have won it if he didn't run into Sturk at that part of the track. I blame @sturk0167 !:lol::lol:

But forreal, my tires were gone lol, you would have passed me no matter what.
