Eutechnyx did very sucessfuly it on Ferrari Challenge (rain looks damn amazing there), and they also opted for 1080p software upscale from native resolutin in-game - same as GT5:P. So, I guess PD can do it with their knowledge and tools even better.

But Ferrari Challenge is a 30fps game, having rain effects while keeping steady 60fps is a real challenge, if you think about it, even now, without rain effects, they can't keep 60fps 100% of the time like in every previous GT game.

Well i've always been one to believe damage is unnecessary and will only add to the game being delayed. The only thing i would like to have is some extra vehicles and the ring. With that i will be satisfied.

Here's the thing though. They want to do the damage now and get it over with. If it's not good , then they can play with it using GT5:P. Then when it's perfect, say, by GT5, Damage would be flawless. Anything to make the game more realistic is a + for me.

Of course, I would love some cars and the Ring, but that's not their point of having GT5:P out.

And people. This is about Damage preview at the TGS. Not another wish list. WE ALL KNOW THAT YOU WANT KICKASS CARS AND THE RING. Stick to the topic in hand.

I really hope that once you crash, game over with the car, either fix it or buy a new one. I doubt that will happen until GT6. But at least PD should have minor to medium body damage but Med-to High Performance decrease.

I also worry about 24-hour cycle and at least Rain effects.

I guess small preview on Weather effects is that SNOW in the main menu screen with wet ground. But I do not think PD will make a game with RAIN effects and 16 cars at same time, if they succeed I would be amazed.

That's what i really want to see. If they somehow can't put damage in, at least give us dynamic wheather and mechanichal failures.

Everyone says that if GT5 will have damage, I think PD stated the same, is that they wanted to do damage RIGHT. I am bit worried about it, sure I bet the cars will have decreased amount of performance once hit something, but I think it wont be made RIGHT. I believe PD will have slight Body damage with slight to medium performance changes.
:(

We really do not have any news on how DAMAGE will be like, and that is a big worry, PD always advertizes on what new cars will be in game, like the new Ferrari Cali, New Citroen Concept, or even a new and old LAMBO, but they did not even show us ONE single pictures of how car has visible damage. And seems it is taking them long time.

I wouldn't
PD has always pushed the boundaries of the playstation.
and check this out...if the cell is that powerful as it was advertised, and the Blue rays is THAT big that it shouldn't be a problem for PD...juts man hours.

also check this out..PS3 runs on blueray, and blue ray has more than 10 times the size of a XBOX 360...yet all the game on both consoles are the same...

HOW COME ???

One system has the BIG storage capacity and an advanced processor
the other one has a High performance PC processor and a standard storage medium...

there should have been a difference between the two systems...

so eihter the game devs aren't doing their jobs on the PS3 platform ..or someone at sony has been bull****ting us all along...
Don't get me wrong..I'M A BIG SONY supporter since 01'
But I hate it when people bull**** me..
and I also hate it when people keep on talking about graphics
NEXT GEN GAMES SHOULDN'T BE ONLY ABOUT GRAPHICS !!!...you have the processing power and the storage medium...DO SOMETHING WITH IT !!!

I work with computers and I know what processing power coupled with storage CAN DO !

sorry for the rant...had a long, stressful and bad day at work....yesterday...and today...

So far in the all the GT PD has NEVER gotten the car collision physics right, or anywhere close to right, so I remain pessimistic about damage being good. If a car can't even react properly when colliding with another car or barrier then how can I expect the damage to be any better?:nervous:

You have a good point there.. :nervous:

PD adding damage.. sigh, why? because it's the standard these days? because fans want it soooo bad that it HAS to be included now?

I wish they would never implement it in the first place.. maybe things like tires that blow and damage on brakes and the engine, but doing cosmetic damage the way PD wants it to be will easily delay the game a year, if not more.

I say release the game first, GT5 with all the tracks, weather effects, day/night cycle, lot's of cars, fixed online and THEN start worrying about damage.. maybe patch it in later, but im damn well sure im not the only who could care less about damage in GT game now... especially when it comes to a point where they want to perfect it and delay the game till no end before we get to see damage.

heck, im willing to bet that the moment damage hits GT5(P), the very same people who wanted damage so bad, will probably stomp it into the ground for not being like they want it to be... lol, maybe im being a bit too pessimistic now, but hey..

Like being stuck in the middle of the sandbank after Turn One chaos?:ouch:

I see a lot of things I’d like to be added to GT before cosmetic damage. If it was for me, PD may well get rid of it if this gives us the full game faster delivered.👍

I totally agree with you, I have always thought that damage will affect the modelling of the cars, the cars will not be as perfect as now. I`d rather weather effects i real time, day/night, sunnt/rainy than damage.

Yes, you are absolutely right, but also think all the people who would love to punt us for the mere fun of destroying the cars. I hope GT5 does not turn into BURNOUT.

I get what you're saying - but IMHO it already is like Burnout. Let's hope if/when we do get damage, there will be configurable private rooms, so you can choose whether to have damage or not. Personally I think when we do have damage, there might well be the initial smash-fest but after punters have to sit watching a race with a written off car for five laps they might start to think otherwise. I would also imagine that we would be able to block/kick/ban people too?

If the update adds damage, it'll probably add some additional online features as well.

It would definately teach them the real morals of racing

I don't think it would be so hard. One of the trick especially in a wet weather is that the background detail can be minimized, either through fog or just simply blurring the trackside object (or even the other cars). The draw distance could also be tremendously reduced by the use of fog effect.

The recent update to Burnout Paradise is a good example of using real-time environment- the fact that you can synchronize real time to that of the game is pretty cool. Would I want a dynamic weather at the expense of reduced resolution (1080p to 720p)? After seeing GT5P running at 1080p (on my new Sharp Aquos), I don't think I want anything less than what it is now. If anything even a slight change in the lighting from sunny to slightly overcast or really cloudy weather. Snow, not so much- maybe on a rally course. To me what's important is fuel consumption, tire wear, damage to suspension, blown gearbox- the real stuff that happen when you're racing.

My fear about car damage is that how would it effect the cockpit view. I would assume that in case of a really bad crash, your cockpit view will swiftly change to that of the external view. This would eliminate the need to do a cockpit damage modeling and also perhaps becomes less of an issue especially regarding car manufacturer's approval.

I sometimes get the feeling tire wear is already there, in a subtle manner.

I swear toward the end of races on 750pp Suzuka, the grip starts to drop off.

i thought of it too:dopey: i hope the damage like tyres(making pit stops) etc is going to be there

I thought it might have been.... but I literally just came out of a race where rubberband should have been in my favour as I was punted off massively at turn one, but by lap 5 the tires definitely had much less grip than earlier in the race.

DAMAGE? We don't need no stinking DAMAGE! (Blazing Saddles reference)

We need fully optioned private rooms, in game communications, a new track or two, a few new cars, and official information regarding the release of GT5. The "basics" need to be addressed before that take on a major project such as 'realistic' damage.

I watched GT5 "Beyond The Apex" recently and Kazunori Yamauchi didn't seem too keen with the idea of car damage as he finds them heartbreaking to see. With this perception I doubt it may make an appearance in the next update though I could be wrong. I rather see the introduction of customisable online private rooms than most.

DAMAGE? We don't need no stinking DAMAGE!

'You said 'damage' twice...'
'I like damage.'

On an unrelated note to the rest of the post, though, I severely doubt they'll include the Nürburgring in the Autumn update, I mean if they did, a lot of people wouldn't need to buy the game! By that I mean I know of a few people who aren't into games at all but bought a PS2 and GT4 just to drive on the Nürburgring, and I'd be surprised if they were the only ones. Don't get me wrong, though, it would be amazing but I wouldn't be surprised if they included the GP circuit and said the Nürburgring was in it as a poke in the eye for all our clamouring for it!

A more likely track to be added is Tsukuba, which would be fine by me, given how pretty much all the videos on GTTV feature it and it's a pretty well-known circuit in Japan.

Damage isn't that important to me personally, since I tend to not hit other cars or have huge offs in a race, what I'd prefer to see above those would be private race lobbies, tyre wear and dynamic weather that changes according to the actual weather at the circuit, but I think those last two will be kept quiet until the full game, or another update next year.

In any case, anything they add will be enormously appreciated, especially considering how much I paid for the disc and how much I've gotten in return! I thought I'd be done with it in a month, much better value than probably 95% of the games out now, I'd say.

We need the core of the game updated before we get more add ons. I honestly don't want them to add more cars and tracks until we can get damage(slight cosmetic/mostly mechanical) along with tire wear and fuel consumption.

so if on suzuka we have rain for two weeks, you would like to race on it for two weeks, or when you want to race is nice weather, you would need to look for weather forecast, especially if you're planing some future events or races. To me this is nonsense. i would prefer i we could change weather by ourselfs, before racing.
