The Ford GT was conceived solely to beat Ferrari at their own game. The first Ford GT's were designed and built in the UK. However, when the over-complicated engines and fragile bodies proved too weak to take on the 24 heurs de mans they turned to Carrol Shelby. A Texan that had a track record for slaying italian horses using only snakes. He put in a proper engine and took the program to the fame it now holds, beating just about every major European mark in the process.
