We are.  Think of your forums (or website for that matter) as your baby.  It doesn't just walk on it's own.  Just because you have one out there doesn't mean it will succeed.  You must nurture it, care for it, (promote it), etc etc.  Things take time.  Search engine placement is also key.  Have you added your site to search engines?

Yes, search engines are very helpful.  I recommend going to http://www.dmoz.org and submitting your site to an automotive category (or whatever you feel would be best).  It shouldn't take too long to be accepted, and your site will be in the directory, which is used by Google, which is used by Yahoo, which is used by hundreds of other search engines around the world.
