What the hell?! This is the second time that my data has been wiped. I bought an X2010 an F10 and just purchased an FGT and this is what happens again. How do you avoid data being deleted automatically?

No cars, no career progress no nothing.

Do you turn it off while saving or something? Does it happen with your other games too? Perhaps your HDD is bad. It's hard to troubleshoot without any information.

Mostly though, backup your game in the future and you won't lose as much.

Only happened on GT5. I was on the GT5 menu but I couldn't click on anything because there wasn't an arrow, so I quit the game bu then it went back to the pre-home screen on PS3. I went back to GT5 and I had to start over again.

Yes, you have quit while it was saving, this will of course kill your savegame.
There's also that little yellow HDD light in the center of your PS3, if this is flashing, it means the PS3 is accessing the hard drive.

I was waiting for 10 minutes so I thought it would be better to just restart it but of course I was wrong

Only quit the game when you can move the cursor around or select icons. It may be writing to the HDD when you can't select anything. It won't let me even bring up the XMB ingame unless I can select or move cursors.

Something isn't right here, he said he was waiting ten minutes. Really? How many hours have you put in GT5, is your hard drive reasonably full, like you have less than a 1/3 of space on it? Then it could be fragmentation coupled with possible faulty sectors on your HDD, but you said it only happens with GT5...so faulty HDD can't be it. Either full drive which can cause slow read write times, but nothing near 10 mins or even 5 minutes to save or you are just a tad bit impatient and doing things too fast. Honestly why is it you haven't backed up your save file after the first time losing your information, you must be a glutton for punishment or something. I have never had my data lost, but I back up my game about once or twice a week especially after doing certain long and boring tasks. You have 270 posts on here and you haven't come across a thread warning to back up game saves for GT5 regularly?

If anyone else wants to add a "LOL NEWB" post to this thread, I suggest they re-read the part where VRracingfan says he was waiting ten minutes with nothing happening.

Have erased two posts that add nothing to this thread. If I see any more of the same, I'll give out some nice presents along with the deletions.

Two things come to mind... HDD issue... and internet. Were you logged on to PSN at the time? Sometimes PSN freezes and leaves you hanging on a loading screen in GT5. What you should do is press the PS button, go to the PSN menu, select account management, press the Triangle button and Sign Out.

If that wasn't it... then you've got bigger problems than merely lost game data.

And back up to a USB dongle. It's good insurance for instances like these.

Long pauses like this are usually down to network issues, in future if it does this, sign out of the PSN first to see if that solves it. Although it seems strange that you lost your data, unless it was trying to save and access the servers at the same time.

Cheers man and yes I had the PSN on but when I quit the game for some reason I was out of PSN again which I don't quite understand.

No I haven't but that's because I can't search this forum as i'm on my ipod unfortunately.

I had this too once, although not for 10 minutes, but a similar time.
You are right that it can happen because of the internet connection (forgot that one, sorry), but the game was still accessing the HDD obviously.

Like I already mentioned, watch the HDD control light and back-up your savegame.
