Arghy blarghy. If any of you paid attention to the US national news, you probably saw that northern Ohio got hit pretty bad with storms. 18 tornadoes in fact. Luckily though, none of them graced Stark County, and I'm safe and dandy. Though my internet connection is not. It's pretty screwed up- it was down all the time since an hour ago, and now only stays up for a period of 5 minutes or so.

Next race is any racing Skyline on Red Rock Valley, though. I'll make a topic later.

Quite a number of twisters landed to the south (Alabama, Tennessee, Florida's panhandle, et al) yesterday, so I'm not terribly surprised, except for the fact that November is not typically stormy time of year.

Hope everyone is okay and alright.

Well, I live in the South West part of Tennessee, halfway between
Memphis and Nashville in a little town called Lexington. And we
were sort of lucky on Sunday. A tornado flu directly over our house. We had one to touch down in a town called Milan, which is
North West of us, and was only on the ground briefly. High winds
placed trees in the roads in several counties around us, plus tore down electric lines in several areas also. But, all and all we were fairly lucky, this time. Although, I did find out that November is one of our months for tornado's to occur in our area.
Davey, glad that everything is okay there.

Even though the time may have expired for this race, I'm going to give it a shot tonight. I'm down for the next race.

This is my first post, in case you didn't notice, and I look forward to some good competitions.

edit : I managed a 1:11.435 @ 153.7

I know I could get into the 10's but I just can't link 4 good sections together.

No it’s not. I've driven a 58.178 @ 187.39 mph in a Skyline Silhouette Formula at Red Rock. And I know some of you won't believe me, but try this: set the suspension setup to 2.0 front and rear, all the dampers to the max (bound and rebound),downforce to the max and all the control systems (traction control and stabilize control and all that) to the minimum. You can take every turn full throttle, except for the hairpin after the first chicane. But you have to keep the gas floored or it won't work. You think the car's not gonna make the turn, but then it turns like mad. It’s like the car is on rails. You'll be surprised to see it take the last corner at about 150 mph.

You can do this with a lot of cars, but most of them just spin out immedeatly, the Silhouette Formula is the first one that doesn't spin out right away.

The last turn before the straight? 150? This, I have to try. To me, that last turn on RRV is one of the hardest in the game, probably due to the uneven surface.

Have you tried it yet? Oh yeah, and with 2.0 on the suspension I meant completely to the left, I don't know if that numbers are corresponding with the European and the American version.

Well, I tried this setup, and it was rather, um...interesting. Some turns could be taken flat-out, others needed to be taken slower than with my "conventional" setup.

The 1st turn could be taken virtually WOT, but in the last 3/4 of a turn, the car usually runs out of grip and understeers. The first ess-bend is wierd, you have to slow down a lot for the left part, but then all-out into the right portion. The medium-speed 180-deg-right is a little slower in, but you fly out of the turn.

Then comes the Big Banked Blind Right. In my mind, this is a turn makes or breaks your lap (like the last turn). You have so much understeer, you have to duck in low in this corner, and then just WOT out of it, with out wavering. But I didn't find a noticable increase in speed, just a consistent speed in the middle of the bend.

The final ess-bend you can take flat-out (whee!), and the final long, tight, left is crazy. Enter in 3rd, quickly to 4th, and hold it steady into a crazy drift exit flat-out to the finish line.

Overall, I think I gained about 0.2 sec with this "wierd" setup. This must be the "freaky physics" that Ieard so much about at the GTF. I never rteally wanted to know much about it. I've used a online tuning guide here and there, but I usually prefer to use my own setup, and figure it out for myself.

That said, I feel our competition will degrade somewhat if we all start using TCS or ASC (I tried them before with an NSX GT when I first played the game, but found no advantage...ditched them).

Although Malloot has given us a "revelation" in setups, I still prefer the more natural way of driving without any artificial driving aids.

Then again, if Malloot claims the setup doesn't work on any other car, then I'm impressed just the same. Malloot, tell us the entire setup that you used (camber, ride height, LSD settings, toe). I'm sure we are all very interested!

I also prefer the more natural way of driving as you call it, because the way I did it, you can't drift or get a great feeling when you make a amazingly good turn, the driving isn't much fun, except for that with this setup you can drive some crazy times with some cars. On some other cars (the car has to be pretty ''stiff'' already) like the GT-One and the Elise GT1 this little trick also works, but only in some corners, because if you steer too hard in some corners (like the first one on Midfield, try it with for example a GT-One), the car spins out immedeatly.
You talked about the Big Banked Blind Right, I haven't experienced what you have there, I get it so easy, steer in so you get very closely to the inside-of-the-corner-wall, and then the car gets ''on rails'' like I mentioned before, at a speed of about 150-155 mph, like it's glued to the road. That would cost you some time if you have understeer there, because of the fast section coming up after that.
Oh yeah, you CAN take the first S-bend at full speed, you just have to start turning REALLY early, because after you steer fully to the left for about a second or a little more the cars starts turning like it does in a lot of the other corners, and if you get that bend right, it really does save you some time.
I'll go and check my complete setup and than post it here soon as possible.

Spring Rate : 2.0 kg/mm / 2.0 kg/mm
Ride Height : Lowest / Lowest
Damper Bound : 10 / 10
Damper Rebound : 10 / 10
Camber : 2.0 / 1.0
Toe : -0.20 / 0.20
Stabilizer : 1 / 1

Gear Ratio : Auto Setup 16

Downforce : max / max

LSD Initial : 1
LSD Accel : 1
LSD Decel : 1

What car did you use it on? Works way better on the Silhouette than it does on the Calsonic.

I used the The R30SF. But I'll change the camber, toe, and LSD.

Thanks.

Malloot
You know, with that setup, I can get a faster time but that's not realistic though........

I can see that i can turn alot better at some turns but it understeered out of some turns. It does turn well at the last turn, but i rather stick with the "real" life tuning.

My fastest with my setup and all, i run fastest in the 1:02's. I average in the mid to high 1:02's with fully tuned suspension setup.

Should you send a time that has some funny suspension setup, it's up to you and if the admin wants to accept times with a setup that is sort'a strange. If your time does get accepted, congrats for achieveing a fast time.

I rather stick with "real life" tuning though....

BTW, i did get 1:01.xxx out of your setup, Malloot.

Yeah that's allright with me, I just gave you the setup as an explanation of my fast time, I have absolutely no problem if this isn't allowed, I even think it's better if it isn't allowed, but I just wanted to post it since I hadn't seen it before here.

I did experience the "rails" effect in the first turn and was able to do it every time, WOT. The first S curve is tricky and I don't turn soon enough. With practice I should be able to get it right, though. The next 90 degree turn came out a little better. The long blind right wasn't really any better for me but the last S curve was great, nearly WOT (in 5th gear). That last turn which I hate is getting a little better for me. I think my problem is just being too jerky with the controlls. That turn is pretty bumpy and one false move and I spin. But at least now it's only like one in ten laps I do that.

I did this in the R30SF. But still my best is only 1:04.XXX @ 181 mph or so.

I dunno, I found reverting back to my old setup made for better times in the R30SF, a 1:04.880.

But I have to admit, running that wierd setup before gave me some valuable infomation about a car I already thought I knew quite well!

My old setup just feels smoother, more natural with this car. I already think of this car as a surgeon's scalpel; the weird setup made me treat it like a machette!
