I am assuming that some of you are also watching the 24 Hours of Daytona on Speed right now.
It's pretty cool how familiar everything looks after spending time lapping the track over the past couple months.
The one thing that did catch my eye was the double chicane during the one long straight. This is where you are up to speed on a long straight and there is a barrier and a sharp left/right turn, then a short straight, and then a sharp right/left turn back onto the main speedway.
As I have been watching it on TV, both from aerial shots and a few in car segments, that short stretch between those two sharp corners seems much shorter than it does in GT5.
Has anyone else noticed this?
And if it's not just me imagining it, what would account for this discrepancy, since I thought PD did laser scans to get exact dimensions of the tracks?
Maybe there are various configurations to the road course setup, although just changing that area seems odd.
Or maybe they just changed it recently, and PD's scans were of an older track layout?
Just curious, plus it's pretty cool to notice such small details in real life after playing a game.

Yeah the back straight "bus stop"chicane has 2 "exits" to choose from. PD used the later one in their version(I think most Daytona made for PC games are the same), though it looks like now they are using the first exit.

The real race has always used the short bus stop chicane. Motorcycles use the long chicane.

Another oversight by PD.

The short chicane is actually there in GT5 but there's a barrier through it so it's not used. There's not much difference, so it's not really a big deal. Does seem odd that they would model it and not let it be used as an option though.

I've been watching, and it looks like they've completely removed the later exit. It looks like it's just the shorter version of the chicane. There's part of the road that keeps going, but it doesn't rejoin the track.

Re-paving Daytona has made for many differences over GT5 (and other games). Just like Shift had old Silverstone and Spa layouts. It's just impossible for any game to keep up with the changes without a subscription model.

Anyway, as few contemporary race cars as GT5 has (most seem from around when the track design WAS accurate), it seems appropriate...

True, since we have multiple versions of other tracks, like the 4 versions of Le Mans. I'm surprised they don't have short vs. long bus stop, at least in Practice mode.

I'm currently watching the 24H Daytona. Got nothing else to do while my A-Spec is doing this.

They do that with Suzuka and Tsukuba. There' are chicanes that are never used.

What the frack was KY thinking by not putting day night cycles in at Daytona AND this race!!!

DirecTv have SPEED? You call yourself a race fan? Ugh.

Dish Network FTW! My subscription doesn't pay greedy celebrity ads!

Daytona is a beautiful track at night, wish gt5 had time change for all tracks.
Mabey trade in a few skylines and miatas ;)

While we're at it, can we trade the 9hr Tsukuba endurance event for Petit Le Mans, the 12 Hours of Sebring, or this 24 hour event at Daytona? This is a great event to watch on TV when it gets dark and the lights come on. (I had Bob do the Tsukuba event for me plenty of times, but I have no intention of doing it in A-Spec.)

It looks so nice with new pavement, my wife is in Race Overload today, me watching Rolex & switching back to check on Bob every once in awhile. I love it........

Any of you guys want to take some of those cars in the Rolex 24 race out for a spin on our Digital Daytona? Me and another guy from these forums plan to run a few cars after the real race tonight. For now we'll "un-pimp" these cars just to see how they do against each other in stock form. Maybe we'll start putting on some parts and get them up to GT levels if possible. I call Camaro! ;) lol

I believe touring cars and gt500 are the closest things we got to gt, but vipers and vettes make sense, and for dp could run lmp even though lmp I believe is much faster

IMHO, there is a lot that KY and PD left out of GT5. 24hr Daytona is one thing, along with Sebring, and countless other tracks. Several tracks in NFS Shift should definitely be in GT5. There are many American tracks, VIR for one, which is the track used for the Continental Tire ad being shown during the race tonight. This will probably draw differing opinions, but I would not be averse to paying a small fee for additional track packages. I also think additional tracks (along with one we have now) need to represent different eras. Monza from the 60's, The Spa, the old Watkins Glen from the 60's would be a great track. I apologize if I seem to be turning the thread into a "wish list" but I do think from the venue-side of things, PD slighted me.

Wife on overload...that's funny. I have a dedicated setup for GT5. Never thought about switching imputs from the Rolex 24 back and forth in order to check on Bob. That's a good one, I like that!

PD should give us track updates and additions every 5 to 8 weeks. Anyone concur?
I have to wonder what the file size of such updates would be, especially since they would have to incorporate the additional scenery (like the fireworks that went off just before the end of SPEED's coverage), the change in pavement, and the day/night cycle.

Still, I'm crossing my fingers that it's something that is coming down the pipeline.

Wait for it...Seasonal Event...24 Hours of Daytona. Worth 1,000,000,000 Credits and XP.
