Dazzle Recording PS3 Question.

Ok, so I'm looking into buying myself a Dazzle to record and possibly broadcast my gamingness. I've looked around on the net for set ups and I only find people using splitters for there RWY inputs on the Dazzle and such.

My question is, if I'm playing my PS3 with a HDMI cable, can I plug in my standard definition (PS2 style) red, white and yellow cable into my Dazzle from the PS3. To put this into perspective:
HDMI goes from PS3 to TV as normal
RWY Cable goes from PS3 to the Dazzle
Dazzle goes to laptop via it's usual USB cable

Note: I do not wish to record in HD, I wish to play in HD as normal, but record in SD using the Dazzle.

Will this work?

I've seen set ups with the splitter using the RWY cable going into a splitter for each colour on the Dazzle (so the cable from the PS3 is essentially going into the Dazzle, and then the other end of the splitter has a double ended RWY going to the TVs scart or RWY inputs.

My theory seems pretty bulletproof, basically the PS3 signal would be going to the Dazzle direct, and to the TV direct with no mish mash of wire spaghetti and splitters. The problem is that the PS3 would then have 2 outputs essentially, which may cause problems.

I don't think it will work and may become a handshaking issue with you HDMI connection. If you switch to Composite cables and use the splitters it may work with Dazzle and you can still enjoy HD (just not in 1080p / only 1080i) on your monitor. I think they make a Dazzle that excepts composite inputs (red/green/blue).

I've never even seen green or blue in this country  Either way I'll pass and just not bother, I don't intend on going to great lengths for it.

We have them. I have one :D

Yellow/Red/White is Composite - the yellow cable carries the video signal, with the red and white carrying the two audio channels.
Red/Green/Blue/Red/White is Component - the RGB cables carry the video signal split into three component colour channels and the red and white carry the two audio channels.

And no. It won't work. You can output the sound separate to the video that way, but it won't output video through two separate outputs.

I see, would another way (which I thought up last night) be:

HDMI from ps3 to TV
Double ended 'male' RWY from Dazzle to TV scart (or TV direct)
Dazzle to laptop via USB

This way the Dazzle is essentially recording the TV, not the PS3 signal itself. I know there are scarts available with a switch to set input or output.

I'm looking into buying a cheap MONITOR with HDMI output, I've found a reasonable one which takes HDMI and VGA. So if the above works then it stands to reason that I could use a VGA to RCA cable instead of the double ended RWY on this new monitor. The issue being how exactly does the Dazzle work, will it record whats on the screen or does it need a direct input like the PS3 itself and can the VGA to RCA provide that. I really don't want to be using splitters and having cables coming from every direction.

If the first works I can record off my current TV at home, but this TV isn't coming to university so I'm looking into the new monitor for HD on the small.

That would work if the TV's SCART was output or bidirectional (pictorial... Input is a box with an arrow going right-to-left into the box; Output is a box with an arrow going left-to-right out of the box: Bidi is a box with an arrow going both into and out of the right side of the box).

I am positive that you can get a Scart which actually has a switch to change between input and output. I am correct in assuming that it will not work with a VGA to RCA cable though, as the VGA end would be inputting into the screen and not outputting to the Dazzle in anyway on the RCA end?

You can get both bidirectional and switchable SCART cables, yes, but the TV would also need to output a signal through the SCART socket - not much point having a SCART-out cable plugged into a SCART-in-only socket!

So you'd need the TV to output through SCART (so SCART-out or Bidirectional) and a SCART output cable (switchable, SCART-out or Bidirectional).

Sorry I meant Component, I'm an Idiot!:dunce:
