went to the auto show last night and there was a rally simulator at Ford. had 3 screens and a pneumatic chair lift. i did a 49.xxx on first try and the guy was really impressed. all those hours at GT5 is good for something. ha.

i thought GT5's steering wheel had more feedback. if only i can get a chair like that for GT5... here is a picture of the simulator.

hmm looks like hes on a superbike by the amount that is lifting up and down, kind of unrealistic :/

the physics of the Ford simulator was not better than GT5. the seat did not move nearly as much as the video posted by GTOne2Three. there was no feedback from the steering wheel.

nevertheless, the setup was much better than my wheel mounted on a shaky ikea coffee table.

Saw this at the Detroit show, didn't wait in line to drive it. Maybe I should have..didn't look as nice as GT5. We may have thought it was Dirt or something and that's why we passed.

TakeshiSkunk, it was dirt. lucky for me, i went on a wed night and only a few people were in front of me.

Was it running GT5? If not it doesn't really belong in the GT5 forum.

nope, not running GT5, but hours of logging GT5 translates to something somewhat barely useful...

coreyvf, it was fully automatic. interestingly they used a real ford steering wheel that had non-functioning paddle shifter.

Damn... I'm wondering now if it's even worth waiting in line for... I'm going on a Wednesday so hopefully there's no lineup and I'll be able to try this out

Very mature! You could make a similar thread about any driving game and relate it back to GT5, it doesn't mean the thread belongs in the GT5 forum.

I cannot tell if you are kidding or actually mad that someone created a topic of an amazing racing simulator that he tried, but sadly didn't play Gt5 with it.

You are quite a thread police.

Good for you.

Was it THIS one?

Neal is right. If this is not GT5 related it should be in the https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=163 forum.

No pun or insult intended!

You guys don't get it, don't you ?

It's very realistic if you're sitting in the chair, not if you're looking at it, and why ? If you sit in the chair, the monitor moves with you. I've been in some kart simulator that looks like a mini theater (about 12 seats) and it moves like that but since you're in it with the monitor moving in the same direction, it feels so real, it's incredible.

It's also 30 000 euros, so I doubt it's unrealistic.

actually it's giving the feeling of g-force pushing you back in your seat, since there is no other way to recreate that you use gravity. while it looks unrealistic it's the only to create the feeling.

I'm not joking and I'm not mad either but as Kikie has also pointed out this thread shouldn't have been created in the GT5 section and would have been better located in the Steering Wheels & Racing Cockpits forum. I'm not disputing that it is an amazing simulator but people come to this part of GTP to read about GT5 and not an completely unrelated simulator.

Thanks for the sarcasm though 👍

Leave the moderating to the moderators... they don't need your help, if you don't want to read about the thread, don't click on it. I'm getting tired of people/mods derailing threads around here...

It's people like you whom derail threads with their comment. Neal and I have been around here much longer than you and we know how GTP works. Moderators ask the help of members because mods can't read everything on this forum.

The fact that this thread has been moved tells that Neal and I were right[/end off topic rant]

Wrong on many levels.

  1. The staff is very appreciative of members pointing out to other members where they have made an error, provided they don't overstep their bounds. In this instance, bounds were not overstepped.
  2. I'm reasonably certain Neal is interested in reading about this particular simulator. That's why he was in this thread in the first place.
  3. The Mods are getting tired of people dumping anything and everything in the GT5 section without looking around first or thinking that if they slip GT5 in their post that'll make it alright.
Moved to the cockpit section.

Just remember that in a motion simulator, its not supposed to simulate the roll angle the car assumes, its trying to convey the G-force using the gravity that you would otherwise not feel in a game. The motion simulator rig we got at work pitches and tilt and rotates pretty dramatically when you are looking at it. But when you are driving it the feeling is more subtle, that is until you look around and see how much you are actually moving...

Also that is a quick way to get motion sick...

Hmm hopefully they'll have this thing at Toronto. I'm downtown at 6:45 everyday so I'm gunna go right when it opens some weekday.

No it is def unrealistic. The TV moves with the car.... yes! So what? Going on that then the guy is always looking straight because the TV moves the same amount. The TV should stay where it is and the car go up and down a lot less. G forces or not. You don't find yourself on a 45 degree incline in a real car.

Tried it today... my impression is that it felt like crap and felt unrealistic. The motions totally do not match what you would feel... and just gets in the way. The brake pedal is pressure sensitive which is cool but felt crap to modulate. The car felt really slow. Steering was heavy.

This is all from a 50 sec or so lap after waiting for an hour (shush...) so not sure how much of that I would've adapted to with some time.

What was really surprising was seeing just how many people have not even the slightest inkling of proper driving technique. These guys all talking smack and looking cocky in line then completely gets lost on the first corner. LOL.
