The game is set to be a standalone spin off, a companion piece to "Dead Island". The close melee combat returns, along with a new weather system and some upgrades to the engine used in the first game. The weather can now cause floods and do damage to strongholds that you'll have to keep fixing up.

Those of you who sunk hours of work into "Dead Island"will be happy to hear that you can import your character and their stats into the game. Also, the game is not taking place on the same island, just in the same world.

Developer: Techland
Publisher: Deep Silver
Platforms: PC, X360 & PS3
Engine: Chrome Engine 5 update
Release Date: US & Canada: April 23, 2013 World April 26, 2013

Importing characters...nice. I wonder if the XP cap will be lifted or raised in that case?

Anyway, that'll be another couple of hundred hours of fun to look forward to. Any mention of day/night cycles? It worked well for the Ryder White section and that would add even more suspense (damn: now I sound like the average GTP poster :sly:)

Looking forward to this.

There is also mention of a new playable character with different skills. It also sounds like the game is going to start you right in the thick of it, an aircraft carrier full of infected and a monsoon...:)

Wasn't this originally planned as DLC but they then decided to make it a retail release, but at a cheaper price? Or am I getting confused with something else?

I think you're probably correct - the price originally was slated as being lower than a full release. Not sure if that's still the case.

There is still the question of Dead World which they registered last year...

Dead Island was fun for a couple of weeks, it got old quickly though. It never pulled me back for another run with a different character. I don't think I will be getting this.

Online with friends adds to the campaign - with randoms less so; they invariably steal all the cash and weapons chest finds along the way.

I played it for two hundred and forty odd hours so far and whilst I don't go back every day, I do return for stints of a few days at a time quite regularly - each to their own though, the game isn't for everyone.

I will be getting this follow-on - that is if the real zombie apocalypse hasn't broken out before then...

Idd,same here.it was fun but it gets old after one time

I'm thinking of getting the first Dead Island on steam. Is it any good? I heard it was but I just want to be sure. This looks neat as well.
I enjoyed it, some zombies to smash up in your spare time, going crazy by the occasional screamer sprinting at you.
Didn't really follow the story myself :)

I wouldn't pay too much for it though.

I think its quite good.

But yeah, with Riptide closing in, I would get the Dead Island on a Steam sale or something.

Better yet, get DayZ. :sly:

At least on PC you can mod it so there is a full day/night cycle - makes it quite hairy apparently.

When I get my rig, I'm definitely getting DI again.

That mod seems to have evolved more into a survival against other humans style game than the zombie survival epic it started out as :)

👍 That's why I don't play it.

Well I got Dead Island on the Xbox 360 for $14 at a used game store. It's okay, but the graphics are a bit inconsistant, and the atmosphere...well, there isn't any (imo it's very boring). It's an okay game, and the zombies are cool. Co-op is a good idea but the 2 games i've joined were full of people just randomly walking around and not actually following the quest.

I regret selling the first one.

If the wired Xbox controller works on PC with this I'm getting it on PC, if not then xbox

The atmosphere should pick up - starting with clearing out the lifeguard station and the two gas stations and then the hotel mission...

The online players can indeed be a bit flakey - watch out for deo-bombs and Molotovs, they can kill you if you're nearby when one gets thrown. Guns and aother weapons won't harm you, but those first two will and there are some players who will intentionally join just to kill you - luckily not too many though.

Keep trying online, there are some really good people who play this who will gift you some good weapons. Unfortunately, I'm on the PS so can't help you there.

Have fun.

Well I learned from the last trailer that it represents hardly anything of what the game will be like, but it's still a very emotional and graphically impressive trailer. Didn't make me get teary eyed like the last one though.

Dead Island: Riptide New Character, Screens & Info.

John Morgan is the new, fifth playable character in Dead Island Riptide that can join the team in addition to the protagonists from the original game. For years he has trained himself - and become a master - in hand-to-hand combat. His career in the US Navy has not taken off as he originally had envisioned, so he spends his time as a cook on a military ship. Little does he know that soon he will have to bring his skills into practice when the ship nears the island of Palanai.

The town of Henderson is one of the new locations in Dead Island Riptide. Henderson is situated on the island of Palanai in the once beautiful Banoi archipelago. Palanai caters to ultra-wealthy yacht owners and eco-tourists looking to stay nearby to the island’s untouched jungle. Palanai’s center is the luxurious town of Henderson that has grown into a Mediterranean-looking port town.

After a monsoon has laid waste the Banoi archipelago the city lies partially flooded and its abandoned buildings are quickly falling into disrepair. The team of heroes will have to find high ground in order to steer clear of the waters, where unknown threats lurk beneath the deceptively calm surface.
