The online co-op is pretty cool but, but, there's no split screen co-op. That means I won't be able to play it with my brother. :grumpy:

Anyway, I'll probably still get it when it's out, but in the meantime, like two days from now, I'm getting Dead Space and Dead Space 2, as a warm up. :mischievous:

Demo is up on XBL Marketplace and PSN now, or at least should be.

I kind of lost track of the demo date after I'd gotten early access. :P

The demo was so great that my brother, my friend, and I pre-ordered the game on Saturday. All paid off in full.

For those that dont know, there are 2 annimated Dead SPace movies. Downfall and Aftermath. I finally watched them last night. Downfall was excellent. Such a great movie. Aftermath wasnt very good at all IMO. I would highly suggest at least watching Downfall.

I promised my brother I would wait until Thursday to play this with him. It was soooooooo hard to resist playing last night. I installed the game, entered all the pre-order codes and just went to the start menu. Thats it. I even had a friend asking me to play with him but I said no. The great news is my brother can play tonight instead of waiting until tomorrow!! :) BTW I LOVE the menu system! For some reason the menu system reminded me of all the mechanical windows in the movie "The 13th ghost".

That is the best weapon ever!

"Pew pew pew!"

Love it!

Also, Camaroboy, if you're into what went on during the start of Dead Space, check out Dead Space: Extraction. It's on the Wii and PS3, came out in 2009 and is about what happened before the first Dead Space game. You play as a character that is slowly going insane, and you learn how everyone gets contaminated, and start killing each other.

Great game, terrible save system. At the least they could have added more progress save points. The old save point system was way better but I suppose they had to change it up for co-op. I never save/quit until I see " progress saving " on my screen. The xbox forums are rampant with posts about losing entire chapters...

I never played any of the other DS games but decided to try the DS3 co-op demo. Truly enjoyed the demo and pre-ordered the game.

It has only been a few days but I have already put in over 35 hours between 4 game saves with 3 different co-op partners. One of my saves we went through the entire game as a co-op and it took us about 22 hours. Amazing game and the co-op length on normal was excellent. I started a new game + last night with my friend and we are on the 6th level on "Pure Survival mode". Much more intense and much more strategic. The enemies do not have any ammo drops, no circuit drops, and no health drops. Plus it defaults to the hard difficulty.

My only major complaint is the amount of back tracking in some of the levels. The level where you are collecting the section pieces of the "insect" had a rediculous amount of backtracking. We backtracked at least 5 times in that level. Other than the backtracking, and a few save issues, its very good. So far this is my GOTY 2013 but I do realize its only February. Still, an excellent game! 👍

the thing that really got me into this game is the weapon customization mechanics. I just love mixing and matching parts, and personalization :embarrassed: It's also a lot of fun when you play with someone else, you get to see what weapons they can come up with. I find the story interesting; I love a game like this when it has a very deep story and insane amount of lore. :D

perhaps my main complaint about this game is about the co-op system. It sucks that the game defaults to a single-player experience when you start up a lobby and start the game while waiting for someone to join. Because of that, whenever someone attempts to join your game, he/she has to wait until you reach the next checkpoint, or if you restart the game to the last checkpoint. The co-op system could've been better with an AI-controlled character, the ability to choose whether you want to play as Isaac or Carver, and the instant "drop-in drop-out at anytime" joining mechanic, just like in Resident Evil 6.

but despite that, I still find the game very enjoyable. You'll spend over an estimated 16-19 hours in your first-ever playthrough on Normal difficulty, plus there are other unlockable game modes which you can try if you want to challenge yourself. It's a must-buy for me. 👍

Rumor: Dead Space 4 cancelled after poor Dead Space 3 sales

Crave Online
EA has ceased development on Dead Space 4 and effectively axed the series following lower than anticipated sales of Dead Space 3, VideoGamer has learned.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source familiar with the unannounced project told VideoGamer that Dead Space 4 had been in pre-production at Visceral Games, with a small team at Visceral Montreal allegedly tasked with developing prototypes and mock-ups for the title, and collaborating on ideas for the game's narrative.

However, the project was cancelled after Dead Space 3 failed to meet its sales targets, our source claims, telling us that EA executives visited Visceral Montreal last month to inform staff that the project had been terminated and announce details of the company's restructuring.

Visceral Montreal is rumoured to have closed following the restructuring.

Hopefully it's true that DS has been cancelled for good. Sad to see a franchise start off so great (DS1 and to some extend, DS2), only to end in such a pathetic excuse of a game (DS3). Aparently, all franchises must evolve into pathetic generic shooters, featuring stories and characters that might as well have been written by kids. Well, one less to worry about. Hopefully.

I personally think DS3 is an excellent game. One of the best games of 2013 so far. EA just set their expectations too high and didnt reach their goals. DS3 is doing a LOT better in sales than Crysis 3 thats for sure. Crysis 3 is a disaster on the 360. So does that mean they are going to cancel the Crysis series? Nope. Is this the end of the DS series? Nope. Is it the end of the ME3 series? Nope. These will all be back on the next gen consoles.

Sales would have been even lower if it wasnt for the co-op campaign added to DS3. Co-op is about the only thing that saved this series. I had no interrest in this until I played the co-op demo and instantly enjoyed it. I even talked at least 5 other friends into buying this game for the co-op campaign. And they had no interrest in the DS series. Co-op saved this game.

Co-Op, and the fact that the game isn't isn't scary anymore, is what drove the original Dead Space fans away from DS3. It's just another generic shooter. Nothing special about it. The same Co-Op has been done in the RE franchise for a few years now. It has no place in Dead Space. And neither does the ridicules CoD gun upgrade crap.

So please tell me how adding Co-Op saved the series, when all it achieved was to attract new players, and drive away the majority of the seasoned Dead Space players?

If hearing the words "co-op" drove you away then its your own fault. DS3 does not require co-op at all. It is also still plenty scary. So you have no one to blame but yourself for missing an amazing experience. DS3 is far from a failure. It just didnt reach the expectations of EA. In fact DS3 is doing MUCH better than Crysis 3. So again, DS3 is far from a failure.

Those rumors are false and have already been busted. Did you even click the link?

UPDATE: Dino Ignacio, UI Lead at Dead Space developer Visceral Games, has denied today's story about the end of the Dead Space series.

"The reports of our death were greatly exaggerated," he tweeted. "Please stand by."

Ian Milham, creative director at EA and ex-art director on Dead Space, also took to Twitter to deny the story.

"Almost nothing in that article is true," he wrote. Then, in response to a question on Twitter: "I confirm nothing except the hooey in that story."

EA's US PR team has reportedly called the VideoGamer.com report "patently false".

"While we have not announced sales for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and the franchise remains an important IP to EA," an EA spokesperson told Eurogamer.

There will be more DS games just not until next gen.

What does Crysis 3 have to do with DS3? Crysis 3 has beautiful graphics. Other than that, it too is just your standard shooter. Enjoy your Gears of War clone. Some of us are tired of playing the same crap over and over again, and actually demand that not all games play exactly the same.

And no. DS3 is not scary... It really isn't.

Looks like I was right. I knew Isaac would be back, just quicker than I expected. For those that dont know, the Awakened DLC is AFTER DS3. Not sure if I am going to pick this up but I might depending on community feedback on the DLC.

Anybody still playing this? Just finished it on normal and am now looking for a - preferably badass pro - co-op partner for impossible. :scared:
