How do you control the DFGT? I just got it and am having trouble controlling it. I switched from the PS3 Controller. Also I don't know how to drive in real life.

Practice.

And after that, practice.

Seriously, it takes some getting used to, but you will if you stay with it. Don't forget that you likely spent years learning how to drive a car with tiny joysticks and possibly triggers or buttons, and learned to manage the goofy way the throttle and brake are mapped in GT5 for however long too. A racing wheel doesn't instantly make the game real, it's just another kind of controller that happens to be closer to the real thing. It will take time to learn, but then you'll wonder why you waited so long.

You wouldn't expect a veteran pianist to be able to pick up a guitar and play perfectly with no prior experience. This is similar.

Real world driving experience helps some, but not really all that much. Racing with a wheel controller is very much not like driving to work or a vacation in the real thing.

Spend time with slow/medium-speed cars. Learn the FFB and try to be smooth without worrying too much about being fast. Fast will come.

I started with a fairly slow car, the Lotus evora with all the aids on. Then when i got better, i took the aids off.
I moved up to a touring car, again with all the aids on then slowly turned them off.
I moved to a faster car....well you get the picture :D

It helps you to feed the power in and get used to the back end stepping out if you progressively turn the aids off

I was lucky and after years of driving with a DS3 I started the game with the DFGT and the transition was seamless.

I would not recommend starting with driving aids though other than ABS=1. The steering/throttle/brake inputs are different with SRF and other aids on, so all you'll be doing is picking up habits you're going to have to unlearn. I know because that's the mistake I made, and someone mocking me for not being able to drive without aids engaged my ego and I never used aids ever again after that. But I had to unlearn some bad habits to do so.

I say start off the way you want to race and stay that way. If you want to learn to drive without aids then start that way. I would also suggest hooking up with a garage and finding some tunes you like because you want to be sure and take the car out of the equation as much as possible. You don't want to be fighting a bad tune while learning how to drive. There are plenty of garages around, just try a few tunes and find some you like and use them to learn how to drive.

One other thing, if you intend to race online, then practice online, because the physics are different. It's less forgiving online and again, practicing offline will require retuning and unlearning when you go online. Set up your lounge with tire wear on and grip to real and have at er'.

Good luck 👍 👍
