DFGT noob: If I wrestle against the wheel will it break?

I've never used a FF wheel before. Can I just fully overpower the force feedback even if I am spinning out and the FF on the wheel is going crazy, or am I not supposed to do that?

what is a good number to set the FF at in the options? (the default is 5/10)

One of the hardest parts of learning to use a FFB wheel is reminding yourself that it's typically going to take quite a bit of effort to damage your wheel through normal use. So unless you're Brock Lesnar, you should have nothing to worry about.

If you're having trouble with the wheel spinning insanely, try bring your car to a halt, or at least slow it down.

Check in the options on the start up page before you enter GT mode / Arcade go to the first "wheel" and select the simulated option and lower FF until the wheel feels right for , i had the same issues as you and thought my wheel was broke , i did as above and love the wheel now,it is smooth and relaxed to use now.

I like to wrestle my wheel around. Doing the 394hp RX7 seasonal the other day i got frustrated and wrestled it around so much it pure rage that i had to tighten all the nuts up after.

My DFGT arrived yesterday was so excited to set it up and get everything ready to use. About 12 hours later, i'm ready to send this thing back. I'm unable to control this thing, have lowered the FFB to 1 with power steering off. Its not even the FFB that makes it difficult for me, its just the wheel itself. I would much prefer a 270 degree wheel than a 900 one since none of the premium cars in the game seem to function like a 900 degree wheel. I'm not knocking the wheel, i just seem to have much more control over the car with a controller.

Seriously it takes about 50 hrs gameplay when you first ever use a wheel to get comfortable.
I had exactly the same experience and I was using a Microsoft one 270degrees.
Many people told me how they first struggled and around 50hrs play sorts it.

Honestly one morning youl start the game and bingo it's all clicked into place.

Bottom line your not on your own when first time user.

You can (and should) wrestle your wheel at will. You are wrestling against the servo motors of the device, not against something mechanical that you can break. Don't worry, enjoy.

P.S. I use little assistance and it's really hard sometimes, my arms ache on the next day, the wheel bears the tension better than myself :)

You can change the amount of degrees to 270 on the DFGT; search this forum how to do it (something with pressing three buttons at the same time) That will make it easier; but i agree its hard at first. But ive been racing with a wheel now for two years and i honestly dont play a race game at all without one anymore. Its a MUST HAVE for me..

You should not be turning the wheel more than 90 degrees to the left or right unless you are drifting.
Give it some time and it will come naturally.

I find FFB set to 7 gives the best balanced drive for my DFGT. Power steering should also be off.

Generally speaking, you should be able to make turns without needing to "pass" the wheel through your hands. If for some reason you need a full 900 degrees of rotation through a corner chances are you're trying to drive too fast for the turn.

Wow... If I did understand your logic, a real car should have a DS3, not a wheel!
If you're using full lock on corners, than it's wrong, and that's why you're struggling to control the car. On a real car you only turn the steering wheel more than 270º when you're parking, or 0,01% of the time. The same applies to the game, if you're turning too much you're forcing the front tires to loose grip and spin out; in a non-FF car it could be fatal.
With a bit of practice, you'll learn how to deal with it, don't worry.

It just takes practice. The DFGT is a pretty solid wheel. At first I used 3 on feedback settings in GT5P and now I use the full 10 and wish it would go higher :)

btw the wheel is not in 900 degree mode on any car I have driven. Most of them seem to be about 360 or so where the karts seem to be about 180
