Hi guys,

I just bought DFGT steering wheel but I cant not control it specially with fast cars, the steering wheel just moves right and left when I drive in a straight line. Handling seems quite difficult.

Have you got any tips that could help me out or any settings that I could change?

I need your help guys as I am new into steering wheels!
 
I felt the same when I had just bought but you will get used to it. After some hours, days, you will love it. Regarding feedback, try it low and increase it gradually.
 
DFGT has no deadzone, that's why this is caused.
Just hold on to the wheel when going with a car like the X1 or one of the F1s.
You can go to options and turn the Force Feedback down to your liking.

You could change the feedback force setting, i think its maxed by default.

Personnaly, i didnt change anything and it work just fine for me.

In straight line you just have to hold it straight, its a good work out ;)

It's at 5 out of 10 as default. I lowered mine to 2.
 
I felt the same when I got mine.

I lowered the force feedback to 0, steering type to simulation and turned off power steering.

I kept it like this for a while and was quite slow, after A while turned up the force feedback to 8 and so much better now. I think you just get used to the FF, or else it weakens its self down? Not sure, but the wheel gets quite hot and smells sometimes of burning lol

Any anycase, stick with it much fun to be had. Try a lower HP car say 300hp and aim to drive clean

Took me about an hour to get used to the set up and changing options. But on straights you have to hold on.
 
I felt the same way when I first bought mine. I bought it quite a while ago to use with GT5 Prologue, Grid and Shift so I was very used to it by the time GT5 was released. Like others have suggested, adjust your settings and hold on to it tightly when using a fast car. You'll get used to it soon enough. Enjoy!
 
Remember that most cars you dont drive anymore, you drive the electronics contained within.

Also most surfaces are not smooth, hence you will bump steer around.

Hi this is a specific problem with gran turismo as far as i know... sounds stupid but the wheel that is designed specifically for gt5 performs at its worse on gt5.

The guy that mentioned the deadzone is right... say on games like f1 2010 you can drive in a straight line and dont have to hold on to the wheel as if you were wrestling with an angry polar bear.

f1 2010 you can also edit the feedback and wheel weight among other options that make it an absolut joy compared to the comletly insufficient gt5 settings.

I have stopped playing gt5 now anyway and enjoying f1 online and loving it with the DFGT... something that just isnt possible with gt5.

You should not have to hold on for dear life on the straights this is just really bad programming from polyphony.:crazy:
 
The tracks aren't entire smooth, so you'll feel the wheel pull when you drive over bumps. Also, you're racing fast cars and not driving your grandmother out to brunch. If you havne't been doing this, you should have both hands on the wheel.
 
You barely just got the wheel, and haven't become fully accustomed to it. Practice makes better. You can do it!

Having to tightly grip the wheel while doing 150mph+ on an irregular track surface sounds about right to me.
 
Still trying to get the hang of it, but I think I got better now thanx to you guys. :)

The more you play with it the more comfortable you will get. Just give it some more time and it'll feel like nothing to you.
 
Bought myself a DFGT not long after it was released, and while it took me a few days to get the hang of, I don't see what the big deal is. I have mine set at 10 (max) force feedback, and wish that it could go up to say 50...but I must also add, that when driving the X2010 I have to turn it down to 5. For some reason all the "real" cars in the game, road or race, seem to have power steering or something turned on, when in the options it is all set to off, and simulation. But then in the X2010 I need tarzans grip to keep the wheel in my hands.
Sure I notice the left/right movement when driving in a straight line, but I think the best way to solve this issue (if its a problem) is to hold the wheel as close to the zero point as possible. Using your fingers against the base of the wheel's main structure, while holding the wheel with thumb/palm works for me when in the X2010.
But with regular cars its like driving whilst aquaplaning in real life. Barely any force restricting the turn of the wheel. And before you say, I dont have a great deal of upper body strength...

One thing I do think is bad programming is the lack of actual feedback. Once I turn the wheel past the point of max lateral grip, there should be a fairly steep fall in turning resistance, and getting to the maximum, point the force required should increase. Maybe I pulled the short straw, and something is amiss, but I feel like there is just a constant resistance force the whole way around the wheel. The only time there seems to be any change in resistance is when hitting bumps or riding kerbs.
It is for this reason that I have returned to playing with my trusty 6axis, somehow it gives me a greater "feel" for what the car is doing, despite having even less "feedback".

On other games however, I have no such problems...DFGT all the way!
 
After years of use my wheels has err? developed a dead zone and is acutally better than when I got it there is little feed back between 0 and 30 degrees but after that its all normal.

Excuse me but have you ever drove a fast car in a straight line on a race track before? Well i have drove a few round my local Croft circuit and i can tell you that they DO NOT SWERVE LEFT AND RIGHT WHILE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. The road surface vibrations are mild as you would expect racing tracks are generally void of any large potholes.

The amount of vibration and swerve you get while driving in a straight line with a DFGT is COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC to put it lightly.

And people its ok saying oh "you will get used to it" you SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GET USED TO IT. It should not be so damned unrealistic its like the wheels are completely unbalances and not bolted on right its nothing short of RIDICULOUS. 👎👎👎

Does you car have power steering?

If so, there is your answer

Never have problems with mine with feedback at 10,

To be fair a lot of the vibration and movement is needed( I think) to translate the sensation of travelling at speed,
The game can't really translate g-forces without outlandish setups so it has to do something to translate the rough feel of racing onto the player,

For me it works.
 
I've cruised down the whole straight at Nurburgring with most cars, while my hands were off the wheel.

Simulation settings have no affect on the DFGT. You'll notice when you highlight this setting in game the picture of the DFGT will dim.

I've driven many cars, both on the road and on circuits and whilst I agree that it doesnt always react the same way that GT5 does it, anyone who takes their hands off the wheel in a car going at that speed is an idiot. You cannot expect a car to stay moving perfectly straight,...why should you expect the same in a game?

It really isn't as bad as you seem to make out.
 
I have my settings at simulation, power assist off, force feedback 6. Thought the wheel was awful when I first got it then used these settings and practiced with slower cars and gradually worked my way up, absolutely love it now.
 
I solving this issue just by steering quite left\right on a straight, or fast out from a corner to the straight with how much more smooth steering.
 
I am just concerned the DGFT will die as when using F1 or X1 in some straights it vibrates like hell when reaching top speed, obviously i guess because there road surface isn't sooth.
I have no problems for the force feedback, i am just concerned about the vibrations that could damage the wheel in the long terms.
So can people tell me if you have the same reaction ? I guess the answer is yes but let me know.

👍 That's exactly right. Setting the wheel to simulation has no affect on the DFGT because the wheel is grayed out when selecting this option. I've tried it.
