Hey there people.I was thinking of making the purchase of buying a dfp off ebay. I was wondering if it aids you in drifting, and if its worth it ? Thanks.

Its worth it but very hard learning wise, from the Ds2 but its a matter of opinions.

I'm not too sure, considering the lock-to-lock is 2.5 turns, which may be hard for executing instead of just moving an analog stick.

Also, Force feedback requires an anchored post, the shifter, which is a nice touch can be tedious to use if you drive MT. The pedals need to be propped up to be used comfortably, like in all racing games.

Here is a picture of my desk that I am planning to use with the dfp. I will obviously set the pedals below, But my biggest question is will the wheel stick to my(glass) desk?

i dunno about mounting it to the glass; as a dfp owner, i use a much sturdier table; plus, it seems that the wheel might block the tv. Anyway, I strongly suggest the dfp. People can say that it is harder to drift on it. The fact is is that it emulates drifing in a real car. Once you get used to it, its actually easier than a ds2, because you can further modulate steering and throttle/brake input. And by the way, the wheel clamps.

Pretty sure the DFP uses clamps also, so as long as your desk isnt a foot thick, which it obviously doesnt look to be, then you should be good to go.

I figure with the wheel in such a position it will emulate of what it would be like to be in the car somewhat :) thanks for the replies and I will probably be purchasing one. Late.

thats about how i have mine setup. about 1.5 feet from the tv. doesnt block it at all. i would be weary of mounting it on glass though, esp if its thin. might want to think about adding some small(like .5 in thick by 4-5 inch wide block to distribute some of the force your inputing to it.
but besides that, it will take some time getting used to. took me a couple of months since the game release to get used to it.
have fun with your new purchase.

its not really thin glass its about 2/6th of an inch thick and is very sturdy. Hope it mounts well, I will purchase tommorow :dopey:

When I first came to GTP I made a harsh comment to another person who asked the same question, I have since then grown up a lot, I will say this:

To drift you don't need a dfp, if you want to get the most out of Gran Tourism 4 then yes buy it, but to drift no,to spent that kind of money on a tool for drifting alone is a waste.
