Yep, that worked like a charm. Unfortunately, the Cockatoos and the Macaws have decided it's time to make noise. Any chance at concentration is gone for the remainder of the day.

Will try once more again tomorrow.

I just noticed this afternoon that I was using the wrong tires. After using the right tires I had two T2's under 1:00 which is one goal for me. The other is a sub 1:18 lap and I'm only a tenth away from that. Time is coming down. My best run I won by more than 50 seconds.

I've seen a handfull of T3's in the 1'00.high range, and two (out of 160+ laps) in the 1'18 range. I'm awed to see someone post a sub 1'18 lap. Congrats!

On another point, I just rang my fastes race to date. I shaved a mere 0.048 seconds off my previous time. All I want is 5 more seconds...

AO

Yeah, sub 18's are fast, thats for sure. I still haven't put down any sub 18's and with the ds1's lack of control, I don't know that I will be able to.

However, I plan on putting in more effort throughout the week, hence, I will be back once Ive made some real progress.

In the mean time, I thought this might give us all just a bit more incentive to run as fast as possible, or atleast spend a little more time in the pits.

Have fun with the racing fellas.

Talk about DUMB :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Inspired by GT3mich's report, I "refreshed" my Diablo & took the first shot of the nite @ TMR. Bested the competition by 37+ Seconds! had a whole batch of 1'18s & thought, "Wow, I've FINALLY figured out TMR!!!"
Kinda "Smelled a Rat" so after saving checked my tires & sure enough did the same thing GT3mich did, but the OTHER WAY :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Seems last time I saved a Diablo .ini file it had T5s on it!!!
Oh well, deep down I knew I wasn't REALLY gonna run with the "Big Dawgs" ...UB57 :D

Edit: SOMEONE feels more Thrilled than they felt DUMB just 20+ short minutes ago!!!:D Put the "Right" tyres on, made 2 small chassis adjustments and ran just over a 10th of a Second slower than w/T5s!!!:D Guess GT3mich was really on the spot when he said during Race #1 that hard tires wouldn't really slow us down 👍 ...UB57 :D

"I've been racing the last two days with T3's on and just couldn't understand why I could run a low 1"18 on one lap and a 1"20.020 on the next! Then I took a look at my tires... :banghead: Now if I get a lap anywhere in the low 1:20 area I start over.

OK, time to ask:
Has anyone else noticed how DIFFERENT the AI combos are in this race???
Everywhere else it seems like one or two are Fast, one or two are Slow & all that changes is which cars take which roles. In this race I've discovered all sorts of different combos. Just ran 5+ seconds SLOWER than my best of 1/2 hour ago but Beat the AI by nearly 40 seconds!!! Have even found one combo where there is no true "Fast or Slow" as all 5 AI stick together almost the whole race!!! Guess if I'd have done more "Test Sessions" I'd have discovered this sooner & we'd be runnin' on T2s w/3 Pit Stops!!!   ...UB57 :D

You HUSH!
I'm going down to run them now before you change the tires and stops:eek:
If I can beat them like that, then I'll pull the T4's off.

I've speculated a bit on that as I managed to make my second pit and come out ahead of the Tom's Castrol. Blew the competition away and only posted a 20'53 run.

I think what it relates to is the AI when grouped together beat each other senseless. The parts box corner (just before the second tunnel) where the AI always clip the wall and careen across the track is a miserable one when bunched up. I think that if the Tom's or Denso get caught in traffic at that time, it takes a long while to break free. Giving you ample time to outrun the pack. This in turn upsets the apple cart, and allowing the slow cars in the AI to keep up with the group.

As JT once told me "The measure of a real racer is how well they run on reds". I think that specifing t5's and a one pit only would have really tested the merit of a few of us. Myself being one of them.

Just my thoughts.

AO

You know that t5/one pit combo sounds like it really would make a hell of a test for your ability to run on the slipperiest of surfaces. Boom asked us to run sim tires in the weekly and I hated it... there was a reason for that, and it's just that any time we lose traction, I lose patience. (sp?)

Anyway, I want to also mention on this subject about the cars and how they run/ variety of their running order...

I noticed that the supras or whatever car in whatever spot, will repeatedly make the same mistakes. Whether it's the supra on the wall after t1 or the nsx just before t2's tunnel, they are as consistant in their errors as I would wish to be in my lap times.

This of course ties in with several post above and the idea that the computer will compensate for slower cars by f'in up the faster cars' lap times.

I've also noticed that pretty much anything besides the skyline can hold first place in "their pack" without much trouble.
Anyway... later.

I agree with Der Alta. T2's and three stops as tough as it would be isn't as hard as T5's and one stop. It will take a very skilled driver to run those tires out to 8 laps.

Well, it's slow going, but Im getting there.

1.19.230 was my slow lap.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get my MOV or my best lap, but I know that I only had about 4 laps over 1.19.0 and the slow lap was 1.19.2, so I guess that gives me an idea of where my consistancy is at.

Pit laps are also becoming important to me now, however, I would really like to match some of my best laps in other races, with a best lap in a keeper. At the moment, my keeper has a best lap that is probably at about 1.18.5, but thats still about 1/2 a sec off my best in race lap, so Im just gonna have to keep trying. Right?

Anyway, maybe if I make some more progress I will come back and post it, but for now theres nothing else.

Till next time.

Yo, I just ran another race and damn it!...

I had it down, garunteed 20.2?.??? and then I had the dredded lapping of the penzoil to do.

Sure enough, like he was out to get me, he got into my path 3 different times between T1 and the finish. So my time was shot and my final lap was a 1.20.8

Oh well, back to work I say. However, on a lighter note, I did manage a 59.9 t3 and a 1.18.1, so Im getting into the best lap areas that I had already achieved... only now Im getting close to being consistant.

Talk to you all later.

Hope you Guys are "Chippin' Away" at your times: 👍

:D I just bettered my race time by about 1 Second on tonite's 2nd attempt, but increased my "MOV" to 48.789' ALMOST Lapped the Pennzoil Skyline as well! I know I'm not runnin' with the "Fast Guys", I'm happy if I can just keep Der Alta behind me!!!:)
If anyone's having as much trouble as I am on the turn after T1 w/Blue tires, try upping your TCS One Notch it worked wonders for me...UB57

:D I'm back home & "Behind the Wheel" for the first time in nearly a week. Must say I've learned a lot from other's "Set-ups" & pushed myself a little "Harder" because of the Great Competitors we've attracted.

I just took my first shot at Race #3 (other than the tests I did) and beat one of my "Test" times run w/552HP & only ONE Pit Stop !!! It's now "Painfully Clear" that I didn't take enough HP out of the Diablo. I'm sure the "Fast Guys" are taking the lead on the first lap & never seeing "Traffic" again.:( :O :( :O Even I'm getting out ahead of traffic after the 1st stop & only one car gets by during the second!!!

I've got more time to "Fine Tune" next week's race than I did this one, so maybe I can find a formula to "Keep us in Traffic" a little better.
Have FUN!!! ...UB57 :D

Okay, where did you get 552 HP? I only have 539. (Shows up as 505 in the Replays).
I don't know if 13 HP would make that big a difference.
The AI are indeed driving like they're about an hour or two into the Christmas party eggnog. With one stop, on T4's I would have beaten them handily. I was only about 15 seconds behind with the 2nd stop in.
I imagine that If I pitted on like 3 and 7, I'd have considerably more time to catch back up. I ran a 5/10 pit schedule the first run.

Hi Gil:
539 HP is correct. Stock w/NO Mods the Diablo has 621, I Think. I started "Chipping away" at the HP until I "Thought" a decent match w/JGTC cars had been found (539HP). The "552" was from one of the earlier tests. Think it went something like 621-588-552-539 if I remember.
It's pretty obvious now that I should have taken even more HP out. This week I think the "Fast Guys" are getting by the AI in the first Lap & never seeing them again. Not at all what I had intended!!! I've personally taken off about 25 seconds from the tests I thought to be "Perfect." Live & Learn I guess. Will try everything I know to make next week's race Closer.:( ...UB57:D

We could always go chasing the "Big" LM cars. (R390, GT-one, 787B)
Another 100 HP off, would have made chasing the "Baby" LM's interesting. (RX-7, WRX, FTO, S2000).

I gotta say that I'm pretty satisfied with this weekends results switching over to the wheel. Not nearly as fast, but I think I've got it down now. I've gotten a clean Free Run lap of 1:17.544, and a race lap (or two) nearly as fast. My MOV was only ~36 seconds (over the Denso) on this last race attempt, but I took off 8+ seconds from my previous best.

The only real differance in my posted settings was an increase in the rear spring rate (to 11.5 or 12.0) to help get around the corners as the tires wear out.

@UBee, you aren't dropping down to second gear for that tight righty after T1 in the blues are ya?? ;) :trouble:

Wow! I guess the honeymoon's over. Your a quick learner, Slowpoke. Don't fret the small stuff, UB57. As hard as you might think you tested, its not the same as running against other people. I like running in clean air anyway:p :trouble:  Now I just have to go back to the track and get a few of those 1:17's for myself..

Holy ****!

Pokealong, are you the same slow poke from racing line with a 1.06.3 at trail mountain?

If so, all the sudden Im not feeling so slow... I know Im not keeping the heat on you, but managing to stay even remotely close is a feat of its own.

What did you do, UB57? Hack the game code?

   No GT3mich, just got "Lucky" I guess & found one where they drive pretty well. Too fast on the straight,(But we're gettin' used to that. eh?), but pretty well overall...UB57
:D

I finaly beat all the AI my M.O.V. was only like 4 sec but I'm just happy to beat them.:D :D :D

Glad to hear you pulled it out hucker.

Personally, I would have liked to have gotten in another round or two, but time constraints and a great weekly are throwing me a curve.

Im also kinda stressin this because I turned in my time over 36 hours early and still even worse is the fact that I didn't met my goal for the week...

Oh well, it's just how the dice falls sometimes. ;)

I have a save for this episode, but it's no where near what I want it to be. I got tonight to do some more laps but this week has been a *****. Plated dinners for 500 ppl. suck.

I'll be at the finish line though. :trouble:

Indeed that is a big dinner... was it a standard plate or were people getting all sorts of different stuff?

Anyway, way to go with sticking to it... I like the fact that your still turning in a time even though your not that happy with it. (wish I could say the same about myself :( )

OK, I've gotten 3 cracks at this in toto. The first one featured the Tom's Supra, who pitted on 14, allowing me a modest victory. The second one had the Denso Supra, who gave me a nasty surprise by not pitting. I lost to him by a wide margin, though my total ET was better and would have beaten the Tom's car from the first race by a healthy MOV.

After 10 reloads to get a field that had the Tom's Supra but not the Denso Supra, I was running out of time. Suddenly I got a field that had no Supras but included the Raybrig NSX. That race gave me an easier victory and the lowest ET and hot lap so far.

:irked:
I've never gotten a line-up w/o the Denso. I've managed to finish 4th behind it, and one 2nd place finish.
I have to work tomorrow so, I'll likely not get another shot at this before the deadline.
At least, not a shot while I'm wide awake, and with my reflexes intact.
I must also admit, I've seen the AI do some really stupid stuff just past the monkey.
