It seems there a lot of negative threads on the Gran Turismo 5 board. Being that I'm a relatively new member, I was wondering if Gran Turismo 4, at it's peak, had a similar amount of "hate/disappointment etc" threads?
Did Gran Turismo 4 take a decade to come out after Gran Turismo 3?
Upgraded or not, it was a next game in the series, just like GT5.Whats your point?
GT4 was just an upgraded GT3. Nothing more.
GT4 was excellently marketed and just had amazing energy behind it from day 1 of its production. All I can remember about pre-GT4 days was the excitement. GT3 was ****ing amazing, but GT4 blew everything that was racing out of the water. The realism in it was far beyone anything on Xbox could have hoped to ever capture - even though it was the better system at the time.
People were bummed that it didn't have any online racing, drag racing, and still did not have Lamborghini/Ferrrari/Porsche.
However, GT4 didn't promise anything absurd so I don't think its audience had as high expectations for it. I mean its closest rivaling title was Project Gotham Racing 2 or the first Forza Motorsports. At this time, gamers weren't demanding 1 trillion polygon cars models, interior views, 1,000 cars, and 30 different tracks... when GT4 came out, I think we were expecting a small upgrade over GT3 - but instead GT4 blew it out of the freaking solar system... it was the perfect racing game ever for any console at that that time.
Now that the gaming market has really exploded, it's become increasingly competitive when compared to 2004. So not only do we have expectations gained from playing other racing games that have evolved with the times - but then we wanted a racing game that was 100 times better than GT4. That's what the problem was. I mean if this were 2006, I don't think anyone would have a problem with GT5. In fact, we'd all be blown away by it. But its 2011 now... and... things have changed.
Agreed, GT5 would have been a great PS3 launch title.I agree. In summary, GT5 would be an excellent game at 2006. At 2011, it is infamous. Those blocky shadows effects are an insult now, a success at the 8 bit era.
Well, IMO, in the end it really could have come out in 2006. Right now we could've been playing the final version of GT5 after a couple years of tweaking and patching like they're doing now... possibly with 100 or more additional Standard/Premium conversions too, and maybe new tracks. We could've just now been waiting for the GT6 release date, which in good old PD fashion would be pushed back to sometime next year.I agree. In summary, GT5 would be an excellent game at 2006. At 2011, it is infamous. Those blocky shadows effects are an insult now, a success at the 8 bit era.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I respect that fully.
I feel that GT4's physics are nothing compared to GT5's. It just doesn't feel as natural to me, that is my opinion.
Quality of content over quantity every time.

You seem like you know a lot about GT4,can you please tell me why in your opinion did they left almost all of the GT4 beautiful tracks out of GT5?This is my main complain about GT5...

Only Tourist Trophy had any real consequence on lengthening the GT5 development time.Consider also that between GT4 and GT5, PD have released Tourist Trophy, GT5: Prologue and GT PSP.

Personally I see a downgrade there:[...]The only improvements I see are the number of cars(even though nobody cares about half of them), number of tracks, graphics and physics. Features and modes are all stripped out.
