No I'm serious, snow...in...Texas. My poor Camaro. :( I hope he doesn't rust. Thanks mother nature--you bitch.

And I mean bigass snow flakes too. But, as a bonus I freaked a few people out by my "sideways antics". :D

Cars up north mostly rust because the salt on the road, not the snow

I'd love some snow right now, I miss it so much

Yeah we're getting screwed in downtown dallas, no snow yet just rain. I want my damn once a year snowfall already damn it! The subie... well she's going through withdrawals ;)

Yup. This year my city dumped so much salt on the roads that they ran out of it and had to get more, and as a result they've cursed my car with automotive cancer. I have a baseball-sized spot on my passenger door now, and several spots that were formerly specks have turned into spider-like collections of cracked paint.

I think people should just learn to deal with the fact that there might be flakes of frozen water on the ground when they wake up in the morning. Eating away at the bodies and undercarriages of every single car in the city doesn't seem like a fair trade for attempting to prevent a handful of morons from stuffing themselves into a traffic light (which happens every single winter regardless).

Anyway, enjoy it while it lasts, JCE. Cheapest, easiest, and safest way to enjoy some sideways action, as I see you've already done.

How in the hell did you guys get more salt? Here in the Detroit area, where we are on top of a salt mine, we ran out and aren't getting any more in. They have been sanding the roads which is the stupidest thing in the world since it just makes the snow turn into this pudding like mixture.

That looks like nothing though, we are gearing up for as much as 16" of snow over the next two days.

I wish I could get a pic right now of the snow, but it's dark out. We have at least 4 feet of snow on the ground right now....actually this weekend I'm going to get some pictures of these really tall snowbanks that are supposedly taller than your car (along the side of a back road)!

I actually don't know if we did; last I heard we were out and looking for more. I have noticed more sand on the roads.

I'll take sandy slush over salt anyday.

Hopefully the snow will melt before I have to commute to work tomorrow. :p

I never did understand why they salt the roads. The snow builds up on the roads anyway and doesn't really seem to go away much faster. Alaska and a lot of the Mountain states get away without using it too.

Why do you guys get the party while we miss out?

Drifting to work is a great way to start your day.

When it snows and they don't cancel school, I handbrake my way to school ( fwd ) and I stay happy the whole day.

Salt is for preventing ice forming on the roads. When water is mixed with salt, the freezing temperature is reduced, reducing the chance of the roads icing.

As for cars rusting, we've got something called "underbody treatment", which basically thoughens up the car against salt-induced rust. I have no idea how it works, but when properly done it will last two-three years.

Alternatively, wash your car, especially the underside of it, every time you get home. Use a high-pressure soaker or similar to get rid of the salt tearing away.

My serpentine belt snapped today. :( I'm going to replace it tonight--but I hope there isn't any permanent damage. I really don't want the cold weather to be the blame for my car finally dying. :(
