God's speed Jordan. I had to have a conversation today when I was with my wife. She was saying something about not listening or something. ;)

Jordan's aware of the issues, having spent 9 hours yesterday trying to fix things. We're currently at a state where the forums are open and accessible but slow - which is an improvement on 12 hours ago.

Thanks for the information, Famine. 👍

Jordan's magic must be working as it seems to be fine for me now. Cheers 👍

The site is considerably slow for me as well. But I can pend until the servers are up and running again.

Definitely not maintenance. It should have been scheduled if it was. Anyways good luck Jordan 👍

Seems likely to me that there's been some kind of server outage and GTP is running on a backup server that's slower/smaller, or even a desktop. Anyways good luck Jordan and well done for managing to keep GTP online, anyone who appreciates this site can exhibit a little patience =)

Niether the IOS or the Android app work for me. Im just scraping through on my phone's browser, but no posting for me today. I hope you find a fix soon Jordan, Im sure you're doing all you can. 👍

This. 👍

It's a tad faster than late last night but I'm happy the the forums are back up. Really makes you think how much you depend on the internet for something to do everyday.

At this point, comments about the speed of the site aren't necessary. You all know there is a problems with the server and you know where to find status updates. Past that, we don't really need more "the site is slow" comments, thanks.

Sorry, TB. Just been a while since unexpected server problems arose. The previous one... I can't remember...

Just curious, where are the servers based out of? I know here in NY there were some pretty bad winds over the past 48 hours and that could have affected the server's physical location.

And so, the forum has returned to its normal heart rate. I'd been getting used to the slower pace actually

Thank you for your patience, guys, I am sorry for the problems. Things are back to normal now, though I will be doing some further troubleshooting/cleanup throughout the rest of the day so there may be just a few more hiccups.

Do you have any idea what caused the major issues Jordan?
Kind of curious, what happend?
The source of the problem turned out to be an issue with part of the software that runs the news blog (specifically, the bit that generates the "related posts" you see underneath each blog post). It increased the load on the server by more than 50 times normal levels when the two most recent posts were published, which is what made it so slow. Unfortunately, it was extremely difficult to determine this was the source of the problem.

The primary server is located at 111 8th Avenue in Manhattan, a Google-owned data center. I also use a "content delivery network" to locally cache and distribute static content (images, CSS, and JavaScript) in 20 different locations around the world.
