It's because when you buy it, the car is new and the engine is not broken in. But, when you win the same car in a race, it's engine has already been broken in, therefore having more horsepower.

If you don't believe me, go buy a car, give it an oil change. Race it for a little while, give it another oil change when you go back. The car shouldv'e increased in HP.

Actually I read something about the same thing on another message board.  This guy said, a prize car seems to have a little more than one you buy, even when on 0 miles. maybe the prize car's are just a fraction better, but I've not checked this out yet.

The creator himself stated it's because of the engine being broken in, they aren't any better. :(

I'll get the link to the interview with the creator! Answers many questions I had and brought up some things I didn't think about. Like the broken in engine etc.

I'll post it as a new topic in a sec, once I find the link.
