Did You See Anything Good Today? [Non-Automotive Edition!]

Hard to follow the epic tank post, but one of the older planes from nearby Lovefield was flying a lot lower than usual today.

Lancaster escorted by a pair of Spitfires Spitfire and Hurricane. Thanks MarinaDiamandis for the correction.

Not a very good picture, but it's a Boeing 787 in Qatar Airlines livery completing a pre-delivery test flight.

Fifi made a brief stop at our local airport a little over a month ago, on her way to Pittsburgh for WW2 Weekend in Reading. Had it not rained that weekend, I was planning on heading up to WW2 weekend to see her again! It was absolutely stunning seeing a B-29 in person. Here's one I took of her last I saw her.

Oh, I love WWII planes. These bombers are awesome!👍

Today, I went to the Moscow Raceway by train. And there were some integesting spots near the railways.
The Rizhskiy railway station has a train museum. I didn't enter it, but I was able to see some exhibits from the platform.
Some old steam locomotives and carriages.

The black loco in the middle is the legendary Э-type locomotive, nicknamed Echo (Э is pronounced as [ae]), produced in 1912-1957. Developed in the Russian Empire, the Э-series was of great use by the communists as well. The Echos were widely used during the World War II to transport army units and supply them.
The world's most numerous steam loco, with the number of ~11,000 units built.
This one is the Эм version (sometimes called Emma or Emka), produced in 1931-34.

So, I arrived to the Chismena station, the closest to the raceway. And what I've found there...
BMP-2 - the infantry fighting vehicle - on a railway cargo platform.

It was guarded by the soldiers, and they looked menacingly at me when they saw me with a camera, so I didn't risk getting any closer, to avoid any trouble. Just in case.

Awesome stuff again, Rage Racer. I've loved the П36 (the loco between the carriage and the Э-type) ever since I saw a picture of one dusted with snow (I think the picture was taken in St. Petersburg) when I was younger. I would love to go on a winter train ride across Russia with one of those on the front!

Is Fifi a particular nickname for the B-29, or just that 1?

A little late, but the name Fifi is just for that particular B-29. Not the most imaginative nose art for such a beautiful bird!

Ah, ok. 👍

Did a little bit of Wiki'ing & didn't know it's the only B-29 still flying in the world. Feel like I spotted something rarer than almost any car now. :P

I didn't know that there was only one flying B-29 left. Hopefully the ones that aren't flying are being kept in museums and not rusting away in a junk yard or being scrapped. I'm sure a lot of them have/were, but hopefully the remaining ones are being preserved.

I'd love to see a B-29 in person.

Yep, plenty in museums and I believe one is being restored to flying condition. It would never happen, but I'd love to see Enola Gay or Bockscar flying again.

Yep, it's the P36 "General" - the USSR's last passanger steam loco. They're all retired for now, but five of them are still in running condition - one in Moscow, one in St. Petersburg, one in Roslavl and two in Brest (Belarus).

By the way - IgroMir game show, where I've played the GT6 demo (and shared some gameplay vids on my YouTube channel). Here is what saw in the Gaijin Entertainment (the developers of War Thunder, Birds of Steel, etc.) area.

Here is a closer shot (not mine though).

Nothing special or of any quality here, but I thought I'd share them anyways.

And I kind of like this picture. 2 planes in here if you can't tell, and obviously the moon.
