It's not very exciting but I think this is the first time I've ever seen a 530xi wagon. I don't think I've even seen one on a dealers lot come to think of it.

At some point someone is going to have to stop the photos of boring cars.

One could argue that seeing the same Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, and Bentley models are boring, but I wouldn't care to do so...

...I think what he found was interesting, as I have yet to see a newer 5-series wagon as of yet. Maybe once at an auto show, but rarely on the road...

What it comes down to is that not everyone gets to see something drastically cool every day, nor seeks these cars on a daily basis. While a 530xi may be 'boring' to some, to others it is a neat, rather rare car. There are gems like that all over the country, and it is a little silly to write it off because it doesn't have a 500 BHP V10.

I'd look at it this way: It isn't like we are taking pictures of Camrys and Accords, so I wouldn't worry much about it. Sometimes when you are driving there are cars that make you go 'huh' and it may be interesting to have them on the internets. My XLR posting the other day wasn't particularly spectacular outside of the bumper-stickers (still odd...), but I still posted it...

To each his own I guess. If I see a random, odd, quirky car, I'm likely going to take a photo of it, and there is a good chance I'd post it too. Good or bad, I find a lot of the 'average' findings to be the most interesting on average, as I can find photos of a Gallardo or F430 almost anywhere on the interweb... But an Isusu Impluse RS? Now thats something worth posting. A Subaru BRAT? Its good just for a laugh.

...Don't be so hard on the man. He lives in Detroit. Anything foreign is a rarity there...

Oh?

EDIT:
Arkangel
I saw this yesterday:

Camry Wagon. I couldn't see if it had the double wipers or not though.

EDIT #2: No pic though
Matthew Keller
Also, I saw a tan Camry wagon yesterday.... I love the way they look.

I saw 2 of them yesterday.

Well, the metaphor was supposed to suggest any car under the sun (particularly the common ones), but you got me there...

...I think the point is that the Camry Wagon isn't a car you see too often, and when you do, its an odd little bugger that deserves a bit of attention...

As a matter of fact, I was going to take a picture of an Accord Wagon I saw the other day simply because I seem them so rarely around here. I didn't, because I knew someone was going to make a fuss, but at least to me, it was an interesting spot...

To me, seeing an S2000 is like "OMFG, AN S2000!!!!"

We have 2 Supras in my whole city, both non turbo. And the only place I've seen a Ferrari was in SC, and I've only seen 2 in my whole life.

EDIT: So yea, good or not depends a lot on where you live.

Pretty much. To Doug, a 530xi may not seem to be a special car, but at least here in Michigan (where Joey and I both live), that car is just as rare as some exotics. When 90% of cars registered on the road are domestic, almost anything foreign (especially in Detroit) is quite rare indeed...

Cars i've seen lately:

R34 Skyline GT-R V-Spec (been along to a couple of our meets before)
Bajillions of non GT-R Skylines
A couple of Honda S2000's (nice blue one i think and some other coloured one)
A few Supra's
A fair few EVO's, (I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX - so all of them basically :D)
'99-'02 shape Mustang, yellow
'01 Mustang GT Convertable, red
BMW M5, silver
Blue, silver and a couple more silver 350Z's finally one going around which has been modified - with wheels!)
A few Porsches (mainly older ones)
FPV F6 Typhoon
Heaps of FPV GT's and GT-P's
BMW M Roadster? Took a pic of it anyway

And more cars i've forgotten.

Not seen a fantastic amount of decent cars recently, but i did spot a couple of slightly rarer ones yesterday and today.

first off walking home from the bank i saw a white Integra type R, no picture as my camera on my phone is just too damn slow. Intrestingly it seemed the guy must have thrashed it at some point recently, as whole right side of the rear end was covered in muck from the exhaust, whereas the right was nice and clean. It did look a bit silly. :D

that was the only 'less interesting' sighting i made today though.

yesterday i caught this old Merc:

Never seen one before, it said 300SE Automatic on the back, a huge old car, any clues on its rarity value?

And my favourite sighting for quite some time:

E39 M5 FTW!

Oh and i'll be getting a new compact camera for my 21st birthday on the 25th of this month, so expect some better pictures from me from then on.. :)

Edit: lookie what i just found!

Production Numbers of the 300SE from March 1962 to December 1967
1962 - 331 units
1963 - 630 units
1964 - 706 units
1965 - 710 units
1966 - 497 units
1967 - 253 units
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
total: 3127 units

Not massively rare, but not exactly common either :D

Define boring? Whats boring for one person, is not boring for another.

I see cars every day that you never see. You see cars every day that I never see. For example, I would never think to take a photo of a VW Sharan. You posted one as its interesting to you as you never usually see them.

For anyone in the UK unable to determine the exact year of a car just from trying to remember the number plates designated year/whatever (like me, i havent a clue when each plate was registered).

Take a look here

A handy chart explaining all the years and reg plate formats in the UK since the early 1960's, stumbled upon it trying to find out what year that 300SE was reg'd.

An F plate (Aug 1967) makes that one very rare, in fact one of only 253 made in 1967. :)

Look, I'm not going to get into an argument with you people over what we all find boring. I personally enjoy the photos, regardless of what they are. Post away!

On the topic of VWs you don't usually see, I saw a T3 Vanagon! It was a camper too. :D

I'll have pics of things up later, my mom has my USB cable. :(

-> I saw few Smart Fortwo (1st gen) at the Norm Baker (Lotus dealer in Las Vegas). :dopey:

Saw one of the Richard Burns Imprezas today, stunning car, sounded great, looks so much better than in the pictures. Saw the regulars, DB9, two Caterhams, Brera, S3, RS4, etc.
May get a few pictures from the carpark sightings at Castle Combe circuit, but depends if I have time as i'm in a team now, and if that fails i'll be marshalling.

I saw the new Lancer today. It isn't a small car.

I thought the same thing when I saw it in person the first time. It seems more 'Jetta-sized' than 'Civic-sized' like it should be. Beyond that, I didn't find the rear of the car to be as offensive as I thought it would be either...

...I'm really hankerin' to take a GTS out for a spin, as I hear they are a good drive...

The new Lancer is a sight to behold, such a great looking car. Not cheap looking at all. 👍

They aren't that rare, unless it was in good condition.

COLD

The high today was 48, which is 25 degrees below the average this time of year. I only watched cars for three hours, because I couldn't handle any more. It was a productive few hours, though, thanks mostly to Toyota, which was today's theme. Black cars were the secondary theme, as just about all my sightings today were black.

BMW 760 vs. Mercedes S600: it's not often that you see the two major German V12 luxury sedans, especially facing each other. This was a photo-op I couldn't pass up. In the second photo I attempted to get both "V12" badges, but it was a bit tricky with the lighter color on the BMW. It's still such an unusual spot.

The Toyota Tundra Terminator 3 Edition is by far, bar none, far and away, the spot of the day, week, and month. Not only were only a few hundred made, but Toyota stopped producing the grille, so you couldn't make a fake one even if you wanted (you also couldn't repair a real one if you messed up the grille). I've never seen this vehicle before, and I've been looking since it came out in 2003, which is the only year in which it was sold. I will likely never see another T3 Tundra, which I'm okay with, now that I've seen this one.

One of the more interesting things I saw yesterday was this:

camry_fire-040707-4.jpg

Originally it just appeared to be a '97-'01 Camry overheating. I didn't pay much attention to it, and walked around looking for cars. Ten minutes later I returned to find this:

camry_fire-040707-3.jpg

camry_fire-040707.jpg

I overheard the owner on the phone say, 'I would've liked to have waited another year...' At least he's got a sense of humor. I would hope to have such an attitude if my car caught fire. He had Alabama plates, too, so he lived at least a couple of hours away. Not every day you see a car fire...

Hope you enjoyed them, as always! 👍

M5Power

Excellent spot!

...I went searching for the trucks when they first came out a few years back, but none of the dealers here had one, so apparently they were more rare than I had originally thought. Although I generally despise the Tundra, its one of those models that looks nice-ish, and the combination of the fact that you are likely never to see another one, its pretty cool...

Slightly on topic: I know every once in a while a car company will team up with a movie to make some special model, but have there been any recent models to go with any other movies? The only recent tie-in I can think of is King Kong and a few VW models, but I don't think they were tied together to the extent of this...
