Different gear ratios for different courses

Does one have to change the gear ratios according to the curves of the race course? For example, compare Grand Valley Speedway and Midfield Raceway. On the first hairpin of Grand Valley, I drift the corner at a speed of 40-45mph on gear 2...here the gear ratio auto setting is set at Level 30.
Now, the problem starts when I go to Midfield. At the first curve of Midfield, I drift at about 60-70mph. However, with the above setting at Level 30, at Gear 3, I would be over revving at 60-70mph. If I change the gear to gear 4, the engine stops over revving, but then there is a drastic decrease in power, and the drift becomes pathetically slow.
Sometimes, this problem can happen also within the same course, since the different curves will require different drifting speeds. The problem starts when the curve requires a drift speed between for example, gear 3 and gear 4. At gear 3, you would be over revving, changing to gear 4 would make the power drop.

Thanks in advance

PS: I use a Trueno with 252hp

This actually happens with any track, ceratin corners require certain speeds. I don't think many racers do tune it down to that point, mainly due to time constraints. The six hours that it would take to fine tune the transmission would be better spent learning the track/car combination.

I will point this little tidbit out The Gear Trick that might help you out. The gears get tighter giving you much better control over a car with a very narrow power band.

i don't touch my gears like battle stage said. i just leave according to the setup and/or i have them stock

er...the general reply is no, but I still have the problem which I mentioned about over revving at say, gear 3, but if I change to gear 4, there's too little power.
Or is it just that I'm drifting wrong?

You might be going a bit to fast/slow. I noticed that when I was was bouncing of the rev limiter that I was either entering the corner to fast. Usually it's our fault when we're not in the powerband. But hey, I'm no expert...or at least not yet. heh heh.

I tune my car to make sure i dont redline in 6th gear on the straights of the course. But also keeping them tight enough to avoid too much shifting.. lately though i've been drifting lots of stock cars w/ sim tires.. so i almost never redline in the last gear..

i rarely redline it during drifting unless i am going in to fast in to the drift...or going to slow like what Swif said.... so just keep the car in the gear they tell u too... they usally give u a hint wat gear u should be in on the right side next to the MPH well good like and welcome to gtplanet
