New Porsche 911

New Porsche Boxster

Rolls-Royce Phantom - actually the first one I've seen. Interestingly the morning before taking these photographs I wondered if I would ever see a Phantom in person.

Clearance... I thought this pictures was really funny - I tried to film it (my camera takes 45min of low-quality video) but the guy backed out before I got the chance. For the record, he was about seven inches too high - it wasn't even close to close.

Sometimes you see some weird ****.

And for the record, is it just me or are the wheels on the new Boxster and 911 the single ugliest monstrosities known to God or man? Five spokes, about sixty holes. It's disgusting.

That vanity plate is quite dumb, and odd.

And for the wheels. I think they look perfectly fine but Porsche has never been well known for making good looking wheels for their cars.

I'm still planning on the vanity plate "WRYYYYY".

And, yes, the 4AGZE was developed further. It became the famous 20 valve that's so sought after for AE86 swaps, and was found in the AE111 Trueno and Levin. (Which were relatively uninteresting FWD coupes, for anyone who wonders.)

Oh! It's not quite out yet, but at some point the Scion tC will be available with a factory optional supercharger.

It most certainly is out - for the Matrix too. But it's dealer-installed, so it doesn't count. The Toyota 4Runner had the same option in the late 1990s and early 2000s - I've actually seen a 4Runner with a supercharger (you have to look close; the badging is pretty subtle). Oddly the only one I ever saw was the day after I found out they existed and the only one I've seen since was in a 2002 photograph. I've also seen just one supercharged Vibe, never a Matrix or a tC.

Ferrari 360 Spider

Hummer H3 - already the third one I've seen and at least two of those (this one included) were rentals.

E28 BMW M5 - California tags. To this day I've never seen an E28 M5 native of anywhere but California. I've seen three out of the state and six in (and I've never lived full-time in California) and all three out-of-state carried California plates.

E34 BMW M5 - rare too; I've only seen six total including three in the last two months. I followed this one for fifteen miles trying to get a clean picture. Yet another BMW crossed off my list of 'all BMWs ever'. I still need an E30 3-series convertible and a damn M Coupe!

It may have been mentioned, but did the second-to-latest gen. Nissan X-Terra have a supercharged option? I seem to remember seeing one badged with that.

The new Porsche wheels certainly aren't that nice, but you can't call the classic Turbo 5-spokers ugly. They're so clean.

Yes, but it was a truck. The same engine - a 210-horsepower 3.3-liter supercharged V6 - was also available in the Nissan Frontier, which shared its platform with the Xterra.

Nor will I - they're great! So what the hell happened?!

Well you haven't seen the new Turbo, have you. If the 997 Turbo doesn't have the classic wheels, I'm gonna just flip.

I probably won't, but whatev...

There's a red E34 M5 around here with Delaware tags on it. I don't know where it was originally purchased.

And you've never seen an M Coupe? There are several around here.

Is it out yet? I was under the impression that the turbocharged ones were still using the old design.

Seen but never photographed, my man - and that's key. The hard part was photographing the Z3 Coupe - I happened to photograph the third one i've ever seen! Luck rocks.

Mercedes CLS55

Acura Integra Type-R - fifth one I've seen. (Orlando, Florida plate)

Mercury Marauder

You know, that Marauder reminds me of something I saw a couple months ago.

I see this Marauder getting off the freeway, right? It's got the wheels, the grille, the bumpers, etc. But as this thing rounds the corner, I see, on the back, "Police Interceptor", and, while it has normal plates, the tags are bright red. So it was an undercover car disguised as a Marauder. Pretty odd, no?

A guy a few houses down from me used to own one of those. Possibly the dumbest idea for a car ever.

Its even dumber for a guy to own one!

Out of interest, apparantly there were 1236 E28 M5 sold in the USA between 87 and 90. And 1465 E34 M5's between 91 and 93

- hey, i was bored!

Did they sell the galant vr4 in the states? I always thought they hadn't.

Man michigan has alot better cars than upstate/western Ny.

The cars are all seen in Denver, Colorado. :)

For the record yes - the Galant VR-4 was sold stateisde in 1991 and 1992. As far as I know, it shared an engine and all-wheel drive system (and possibly a platform) with the cult-icon "DSM" cars (Eclipse GSX AWD, Talon TSi AWD, and Laser RS Turbo AWD).

I saw something ultra rare today. Once again a car that I just can't imagine anyone buying, ever. I saw, in the flesh, an Envoy XUV. Tell me, where did they think the market for that was? Moving tall things? What? I just don't understand why anyone would build one, or anyone would pay the premium for it!

No, I have no proof, but you'll just have to believe me.

I thought the VR-4 shared it's engine and drivetrain with the Lancer. Which sort of shared it's engine with DSMs (donno about the drivetrain).
Wasn't the concept of the thing to just be a bigger Lancer?

It's actually not as rare as I thought it would be - I've seen no fewer than thirty of these things, including one just yesterday that I contemplated taking a picture of but decided against, thinking no one would really care. I guess I was wrong. :)

Pretty much everyone knew the vehicle was doomed from the very beginning.

Well, in the same way that the Camry is just a bigger Corolla and the Accord is supposed to be just a bigger Civic, yeah, I guess.

This is the single best vanity plate/car combination I've ever seen. For the record, the tag is "SALTY" on a Land Rover Discovery. Most people don't know crap about their VIN numbers, but sometimes people surprise you - "SALTY" is the first five letters of 1999-2004 Land Rover Discovery VINs. For a while I thought I was the only one who figured it out, but here's proof I'm not. I still believe it's the only VIN to ever spell out a word, and it was rather unintentional - "SA" is Britain, "L" is Land Rover, and "TY124" or "TY128" was the Discovery (since 2002 just the Discovery SE). It all led to VINs starting with "SALTY". I couldn't believe this plate.

Guam is quite a drive - this is the first car from Guam I've ever seen in the US that wasn't owned by one of my family members

Subaru Legacy - I know it snows in Colorado, but I've never - ever - seen a Subaru Legacy taxi before, anywhere

Volkswagen Phaeton W12 - you won't see one of these. Neither will I, ever again

Mini - check it out compared to normal-size American vehicles
