Any tips for doing the Colin McRae challenge in Scotland with Sierra.

No tips other than practice. I’ve got no shame in admitting I lowered the difficulty on many of these challenges to Easy in order to pass them. Otherwise it was an exercise in futility.

I may have said this before, but the achievement ‘...Flatout’ needs to go into the record books as the most difficult achievement of all time, and it’s only a silver... (and who determines these trophy levels anyway?)

Thanks very much CRJ, will give that try tomorrow, more practice.👍

They went all out stupid with times in dr2, like on masters difficulty. Just don't strech your head with it. 99% of us all have had to lower the difficulty of some CMr challenges to medium (others to easy), and can't get higher than a 7th-8th place on masters difficulty.

Rumor has it CM weren't smoking the best stuff available in the black market during the development of dr2. They also thought in their infinite wisdom that the times registered by that rally dude weirdo they had physics advisor (and for the terrible wheel FFB implemenation), was the way to go for their masters difficulty level AI times.

DR1 masters was called masters for a reason too, and humans could beat it.

And yes on esports and 1-10th in-game leaderboard posters achieve those times by exploiting and laughably cutting (some of those directly cutting straight through the grass in straight lines, far from the main road)every single inch of a corner you see.

Also, the AI is not well balanced for all rallies, let alone they're always running softs basically, and suffer little from tyre wear.

DR1 masters was fair and beatable when you put enough effort on it, resulting on a very satisfying experience for the majority of the player base. DR2 masters is straight stupid, and just a tiny percent of the players, maybe not more than a hundred (mostly exploiting and bordering on cheating) enjoy it.

Agreed. Despite it being a great game the crushing difficulty, (compared to DR1), ruins it. If your trying to beat it at the high levels it's no fun at all, imo.

I’ve plateaued, not much chance of getting any better finishes at my current level. But it doesn’t matter, I still enjoy the cars and locations and have a lot of playability remaining whether I finish 1st, 15th, or 30th.

Sorry in advance for the stupid question but can I play rally cross online with friends with PS4?

I have a championship open for rally and a few of the guys would like to do online racing too against each other
Head into Custom, as that's where Multiplayer options are for Rallycross.

Single platform only, so if everyone's on PS4 and has PS Plus you should be good to go.

Yeah the self-aligning torque is handy in some sections. Let the car/suspension do the work :)

Thank you
A performance patch update would be great but anyway let's wait for dr3.
Best wishes for the holiday season

Best wishes to you too

I did ask back when the consoles were revealed, but the timing didn't line up with the lifespan of the game (the game is essentially "finished" now except for esports). The dev team is fully focused on future projects.

Speaking of, Ross Gowing (the Game Director) popped into the forums to say hello recently, worth sharing it here since people have had concerns about the EA news:

Ross Gowing (via Codemasters Forums)
Just popped in to have a read before I break up for Christmas tomorrow and have realised I'm probably a bit late to the party on folks worrying about everything to do with the [EA] takeover. I can't go into massive (any) amounts of detail, and you might well think I'm just blowing hot air to calm people down, but my honest message is that you have nothing to worry about.

I've been in a lot of meetings about the future of DiRT Rally and our team this year, and have never had any indication that me or any of my fellow Directors and Leads will be asked to betray how we want to represent rallying for you. We won't always be able to control everything related to the publishing and business side of things (we're the development team, so whilst we have a voice in discussions ultimately we trust our colleagues who are specialists in those areas) but when it comes to how a car goes down a stage that's firmly in our control.

A phrase I've kept being told (in one wording or another) in presentations and meetings with external parties related to the takeover has been 'we can see the quality of the game the team has made, and the passion the studio has for rallying, and we don't want to mess with that'. I'm certainly planning to keep doing what we've been doing and I've got no-one in my ear trying to persuade me otherwise.

So with that I'll wish you all a Happy Christmas/Holidays/Etc, take care of yourselves and your loved ones, and here's to 2021.

Got an Xbox Series X this week, here's a quick load time test (the game runs in Backwards Compatibility mode).

Quick Resume also works with the game so no more splash screens :D

Can cars be tuned in the challenges?
Cars can be tuned everywhere in the game, but in My Team you need to unlock the tuning upgrade on each car.

I'm getting much more convinced to start my hunt for Series X now...

... especially after winning WRC Champion title in WRC 9 career mode so I'm back to Dirt Rally 2.0 and looks like both games will greatly benefit from the new hardware.

Well impressed with ssd in ps5 as well.
Strangely enough dirt rally 2.0 which I’ve installed on my old style spiny disk external hard drive to save space on internal for ps5 games, seems to even load faster than the internal hard drive in my PS4.

Can only put that down to less bottle necks in the new gen architecture, which makes sense as when a ssd was put in old consoles there never seemed to be as much of an improvement as one would expect.

The beefy CPU certainly helps in games that require many physics calculations.

I haven't tried Project CARS 3 yet but I'm hoping it can maintain a solid 60fps now, though my main concerns are multiplayer stability which is unfortunately not great :(

Can’t speak for pc3 but pc2 is excellent now on ps5, the better resolution definitely helps with the jaggies and the framerate is faultless.

Recently learned about the camera mod. I might end up posting a lot if people are interested in seeing more

Great pics :)

How easy is the mod to set up and use?
If it's the same one I'm thinking of (GhostInTheCam) I have it downloaded but not installed and might try it out.

Yep, it's that one. It's super easy to set up and use, although the camera controls and particle effects are kinda finicky.

To install, you extract it into the game's main directory. You just have to make the game's executable and the mod's executable both run as admin. Run the mod after opening the game. During a replay, press Insert and it enables the mod. Then use the camera controls listed in the readme to move the camera around. I've been using Steam's screenshot hotkey, but you'll need to enable game controls with numpad period.

The main issues with the mod are that particles do not get correctly rendered sometimes. This is because the mod hijacks the replay camera. The game's engine has some optimizations so if you move the camera to face a different direction (i.e. if the replay camera was behind the car and you move to in front of the car), the dust particles may not properly render.

I'm gonna try and get ReShade to work so I can add depth of field which is sorely lacking. Additionally, I wish we could add custom tracking to the camera so I could get some nice panning photos with motion blur.

A few more:

Any chance night stages will be brought back into the weeklies and monthlies?
The Challenge system is all automated now, and there is a random chance of night/rain coming into them.

That being said, there was a lot of negative feedback in the past about there being too many night/rain scenarios so I'm guessing they're weighted down a bit now.

I definitely recall there being way too many night/rain scenarios shortly after release, but glad things were adjusted. Just my opinion, but now it seems things have swung a touch far in the other direction. But you’ll never please everybody...

I do notice the events may not have ‘hard damage’ enabled (?) which is too bad.

But the overall pace and length of the events is just about perfect. 7-10 stages is all you need; I could happily do with less service stages, but services every 3 is better than every other.
