Dirty driving online

Talking about a "code" when racing strangers online is ridiculous. Since this game is only a part-time sim and since there is no threat of mechanical damage if you nail someone, people will do what they can to win.

Ill admit I do it too. I dont care what some stranger on the other side of the country thinks about it. In Forza I raced clean because you bump someone and all of a sudden you cant control the car properly, or wont get full power, here its just bumper cars and it always will be until they deal with this damage issue.

I frequently play online with many people who race cleanly. Simply state it in the name of the room that idiots won't be tolerated. If they play dirty then kick them, when accidents do occur, as they do in real life racing as well, then most normal people can apologize and still be cool about it.

Restricting horsepower and car choices is another good way of weeding out people who are just trying to show off that they have a nice car but no real driving prowess. Ultimately, however, be grateful that we have an online mode in the first place, as we never did before. It is not like you lose money if someone spins you out, just warn them, if it is a constant thing then kick the person.

I also find that turning all aids off, as well as increasing the number of laps helps to get a more focused field of drivers in your room, just remember that not everyone is the stig when it comes to races and that contact does occur, just look at the BTCC. The only way to make these people better is to show them how much fun can be had through proper racing etiquette and not just yelling profanities at them so they leave to go bother someone else.

I try to race cleanly, but on one race I accidentally spun out the guy ahead of me on the final turn and took second place. He was quite pissed off to say the least. XD

That's why you're on the forums right man? Get a new group going for races that you like. Take a look at Midnight Wangan group if you're into that kind of racing, we always seem to have at least 2 or 3 people looking to play during anytime of the day.

If i take someone out by accident maybe cos they brake to early or i slightly nudge them. I always slow down and let them regain there position.

Dirty drivers on Shift destroyed the online fun, Which Is why we had the Shift league on here.

With GT5 online at least If you create a lobby you can warn the dirty party In chat, If that fails and there still playing dirty hou can kick them out.
Makes me feel like a GTP moderator with the ban button lol.

A few of us was on last night, It was fun. Look for the lobby GTP clean racing.

During free run on HSR some guy in front of me hit a spinning car in front of him as I was going round the outside and he got slowed and pushed out so I wasn't able to avoid and went into the back of him, after the ensuing spins he seemed to blame me and repeatedly rammed me head on until the race started. In the race I was behind him and watched as he bashed everyone out his way.

On the other hand, found a great room last night/this morning with penalties on but driver aids allowed, by the time I left there were 6 or 7 decent racers, some occasional contact but really good racing. Someone did keep burping loudly over the chat though :dopey:

I apologize in advance if I mess up online haven't played with real people before and do really try to be clean but do misjudge things fairly often.

So if I ruin your race I am sorry

There's a difference between misjudging and just barging through everyone, just about everyone will make mistakes at some time.

I thought the penalty system was on as standard.. what fun is it if everyone drives as destruction derby? lame..

I think the online mode is fine. Join private rooms with friends or start your own public rooms with "clean racers" in the title. There are penalty options as well, you can choose strict settings where you get penalized for hitting others and can even turn into a ghost if you go into a turn too fast behind someone or spin out in traffic. A vote to kick option is available. We have power and weight restrictions also. The tools are there, people just need to use them.

I'm glad we aren't forced to go invisible like Prologue. It makes the racing a lot more realistic.

I was karting yesterday & came across a horrible driver named "dasboot1910" from Finland..
If you are ever in the same room as him try to stay away from him & if you must overtake him do it as far away from him as possible he will attack you & punt you off the road.
He did it about 4 times in 1 race at Top Gear. Everytime I got back near him & cleanly overtook him he'd just punt me off again & I'd repeat the effort all over again.
Ended up annoying me so much I just came off GT5 :O
GT5 should somehow implement a way of stopping racers like that race against us clean racers

This is what I do:

I stay very very patient in early race, allowing those crazies to pass me up. Then when the opportunity arises, which I guarantee they will. simply pick a line that they can not stay on and say "ah ha sucker" and he will forever be in you rearview. Need more explanation?

They already have, open your eyes and use the tools they gave us. When you join public rooms you cannot tell someone how they can and cannot play, but you can restrict them with specific options available when you are a host of the room. When joining public rooms you should just expect to encounter people that will crash you on purpose, it's an online video game. If you don't like it, make some friends and play in private games, or join a new room.

One way to screw them up is you can see them diving up inside you from miles back, That means they want to nudge you to stop them, and to help turn. I stay a little wide, and I brake a little earlier, And every time they just go straight past me and crash into wall, grass whatever. You have to outsmart them!

out of 20 to 25 races i did online i had 2 races without anybody smashing into me, or driving in the wrong direction etc...

at the start of a nascar race, everybody starts to ram and push other cars.
i even had a nascar race where everyting was fine untill the last 2 laps.
i was in the lead with the host of the game right behind me.
on the straight he gets a little slipstream but he cant pass me.
then he gets frustrated and starts ramming the **** out of my car.

Bumper car never really get me, however, the fast driver cutting chicane and turns to get even faster are annoying me a lot more I must say. Most bumper you can avoid on turn 1 if you take care.

And driver that thinks they are special by cutting corner are just retard for me.

I agree with most said above. We need a system.

I managed to run straight into someone ,we were 5 on the server, we had a good lead to the otehr 2 and I wanted to take him on a sharp turn. I managed to put it into 1. not 3., skid out and hit him hard. Could EASILY win the race after that, as he lost all controll. But ofcourse I waited for him to get in front of me again. Then he brakes hard and starts ramming me all rest of the round until i just gave up and found a new server. And this guy was a good driver too. Such a shame people like that even can play online.

Guess I should have tried to join better rooms then, glad to hear it. It seemed every room I joined the other night was just full of crash kiddies. It actually at first was kind of funny, and added a "Deathrace" feel to the game, but when I was in a good race with someone, it just became silly. I'll try it again this weekend.

I'm "Actionjeans" online btw.

i had a pretty Ok race with someone today. we started racing and i thought this dude was a fair player. but after like4 races i have beaten him he probably got pissed and started crashing me haha. but i still win. But it was pretty lame that he tried to ram me you just to win..... haha.

I try to stay as clean as possible although accidents do happen now and again and if it's my fault I let the other guy get away in front but there's been a couple of times when I've collided while passing an already out of control car snaking from side to side and sent it spinning off the track while I've kept going, is that my bad?
IMO if I lost control and someone hit me because of that I wouldn't be bothered but I got some complaints.

I had a full lobby tonight with people who were always trying to drive clean. Lobby title was "Clean racing or kick", Max power was 690bhp. Weight 1000kg or more. All aids off (caused some whinging) and most importantly, tyres sport soft. Was a good lobby that was always full.

I've had a bit of online late at night karting with randomers, and the feed was mostly clean. There were noobs that couldn't even get through 1 lap without crashing, but then we just avoided them pretty easily. I would actually say that the Dirty Driving is only going to get worse once PD puts a credit system for Online when being 1st actually matters. Ugh...

It's really unfortunate how a lot of people play online, whenever I host, I make sure to turn on penalties at least so there's some control on the situation.

I find the skid recovery force off rooms have the serious racers in them so that's where I tend to stay.

Um, isn't that exactly what Nascar is... with the best place to be is 2nd until the final turn??
