This is pretty much me. The IA-10 test in where cars can DQ me by ramming into me has made me angry enough to punt the AI into the sand pit if they ever get cute at Grand Valley. Otherwise, I try to avoid cars as much as possible.

yeah... rubbin's racing.....

If I can´t get the win after many try I start to Ram and cut corners. But Hey I have a Clean save so I´m a good one, am I???

I always keep it clean unless I bring a knife to a gun fight (bringing a street car to a race car event), and I know it will be impossible unless I ram people and/or cut corners.

I usually try to race clean, but I did cut the chicane to win the FGT race at Monza.

I keep it clean as a rule but will push back if leaned on.

No ramming but I have guided one or two off the course accidentally on purpose.

I've rammed the Chapparel in the historic racing cup.

I wager someone attempting that in real life would be beheaded by a fan coming free in the impact.

I'd say none of the above but that's not entirely accurate. I don't purposely ram the AI cars off the road but I'll bump them or scrape against them a little bit. Sometimes they may end up off the road as a result. Yeah I know I need to "learn how to drive" or whatever but if the idiot AI can wreck me on numerous occasions I feel that I'm entitled to be slightly aggressive with them.

I guess I learned enough from Schumacher and Senna to know that if you don't want to give up a position, you don't give up your position. You make it your opponent's decision to either back off or have a crash.

Of course, this works alright with the AI drivers, who will touch me then back off, but online I get catapulted off the road like there's a bomb planted in my right rear tire.

I love messing with the other cars. Especially when I'm a few laps ahead. I PIT maneuver on them and push them off the track. Sometimes When I'm approaching a turn and there is a car ahead of me I'll power slide so I'm parallel to him and bash him off the track. I cut corners and chicanes a lot too but usually I stay on the track proper. It's good fun.

Is it just me or when you ram the AI, it's like they are glued to the ground? They don't move at all.

I like to drive cars, not crash them. I've crashed twice in real life, and it ain't no joke. Besides why bother in GT5, since it's so unspectacular. There are much better games to swap paint in. IMHO.

Depends if I get mad or not. Usually I'm clean and pass without bumping the other car.

Just did Suzuka 1000km endurance the other day, and was already angry at other things in my actual life. I think it was about 2 hours in I was attempted to lap a car but the damn guy would not leave the racing line. At the hairpin turn as I got by him I got spun out by the stupid AI. I proceed to take my revenge by taunting him for several laps, denying him access to the pit lane so the driver had to make a go around on no tires and spun out himself several times. After that I still didn't feel vindicated, and when I later caught up to him I rammed him into the chicane and he got caught in the tire barriers for about 30 minutes.

LOL. Good story.

That's the only drawback with the AI cars in GT5. It's super easy for the AI to spin you around if they get into your rear quarter panel but the AI cars do not react in the same way if you hit them the way they hit you. You really have to push on their car & it still doesn't react realistically. I HATE that. It really should be equal. If the AI can so easily flip my car why can't their car react in the same way? It would be infinitely more satisfying to mess with the AI then! :sly:

This. The thing is, the AI doesn't PIT you. You PIT yourself. By heading left if the AI is on your left rear quarter. Somehow, the AI sticks to the racing line when we PIT ourselves.

I just can't get the Daytona NASCAR race done in A-spec... I keep getting PIT'd...

Yeah...I guess one should always remember that the AI appears to be as unwilling to back off from their positions as we are to back off from ours.

The trick is figuring out who's shouting "I'm going to pass now" and who's shouting "Oh no you're not" before there are loud crashes.

...I will admit that in order to win the Lamborghini Festival in a box-stock Murcielago SV, I went into one of the tighter corners at full speed, screaming out loud and punting into the three guys in front of me.

I like to drive aggressively in tight packs, never worrying too much about the odd bump or scrape. Open road or with just one or two other cars around, clean racing as much as possible, but bunched up it's a free for all.

It's to risky to ram or corner cut when you drive seriously and competitive.
So I rather learn to drive good both off/online.

i used skid recovery force today to gold the sebastian loeb challenge. it took me from being within half a second from gold in the first two and being almost 10seconds behind just merely getting bronze at chamonix; to killing gold by over 5seconds. with SRF all you basically have to just go through the motions. brake turn gas, gas, gas, brake turn gas gold.
that is my dirty single player racing and im going to wash myself and my ps3, my DFGT and my LCD with bleach and peroxide. i have known since GT2 that my rally skills are well below average despite loving rally and having a great appreciation for it.

About the only thing I do is nudge the other car by putting my rear panel into its front fender to keep first right before the finish line. I only do this if I ran the same race numerous times without taking first.

I can't include blocking because this is completely okay if your completely in front and have to play defensive driving. But I am sure everyone does this.

If there's one thing I learned from the Vettel challenges it's definitely how to cut Monza chicanes without getting penalized :D

Other than Monza I don't cut corners.
And I only hit the AI if they cut me off (on accident).

And real race drivers could potentially learn information about corners on a course and the layout, but otherwise, I think the skills are non-transferable.

Like Exorcet, I transferred some of what I learned from GT to the racetrack, and I was successful with it.

GT teaches you the basics... slow-in, fast-out, balancing the throttle and brakes and the grip available from the tires... things that you should and shouldn't do.

There are some things that are easier in real-life (hitting apexes, nailing braking points consistently), and things that are harder (countersteering effectively on cars with slow steering). But it's similar enough that you can transfer your skills to track... as long as you don't think you can survive ramming into a barrier at 200 mph while still driving away unscathed...

I must admit... I don't drive perfectly cleanly in single-player mode, though I'm a perfect gentleman online. :D

Worst thing about the AI is that they get in the way too much, and ramming them helps sometimes :P

I cut the grass some, not as a great habit, but in a few places the grass is so much of a better line.. There's 2 places on cape ring, for example. There's a long sweeping uphill right followed by a tighter left. If I cut the right, it sets me up perfectly for the left. And right before the finish there's a hard right followed by a series of lefts. If you cut through as soon as the wall on the right falls away, you can take a higher speed into the lefts.

I don't seem to be ramming as much as I did in previous games, because when I do it seems to be worse for me than the a.i. I hit most of the time. Nothing like hitting someone at 170 square in the back when they are hard on the breaks, I spin and they go on like nothing happened to ruin your day..

If I'm really, really far ahead in an endro I sometime start fooling with the AI, See if I can send the second place car to the back or whatever. Anything to keep interested.

In GT4 I once took 10 pylons from start/finish to the Carousel on the Nurburgring 24 hr race.

I seldom fool around in short races, though. Only time I go four wheels off is when I really screw up brake zone or someone punts me off.

I try to break the AI cars whenever I can. If I'm not on a hotlap, I'll ram them all the way into the sand/barriers if I can. Reason being, I want damage to appear (which it never does). Only damage I've seen is the door on my citroen fall off, but all other cars just get warped.

Y'know, I feel the same way. And really, I *do* try to turn inside them - get my nose in under them in the turn, late-brake 'em, get the inside line... and then, if I just happen to drift out wide a bit on the exit, and they just happen to end up in the grass... well, that's just me holding my line, right?

There is only one car I would go out of my way to purposely ram and that is the Audi S3 that weaves at the start of the Extreme Euro Rome race. I like to grind money there and I inevitably catch that car as I try to sneak off into the distance for some quick(ish) money. It gives me great satisfaction to spin him out occasionally.

I have sometimes managed to mistime overtaking slightly and catch a car on the way past. If a car is taking up all the road (so to speak) I have no objection to a little contact.
