It's for efficient server use ... when we're up they are down ... physically ...What's interesting for me is why Australia and Europe are joined together into one region?

That could be the solution, though the router I use is only a year or two old, and I can't replace it because it isn't mine. Either way, online gaming has never been something I was especially into, and my outstandingly slow wireless connection to my PS3 seems fast enough to play EDF 2025 online and is perfectly usable for GT6 in some circumstances, I'm looking forward to cruising on Zahara De La Sierra when it finally shows up.If you get a tidy router you will be able to race lag free. One of the guys from NSW has you speeds and just got a Netgear 2200 and he can now race lag free.

Users don't need to know this network load stuff at all. Why show them this info?
However, if I select filter with EU/AUSTRALIA then i expect to get results with EU and Australian lobbies.
It's a generic solution ...
they don't know where you are from when you are entering your criteria .. they let you decide where you want to go ... (they could, but luckily they don't, so you have the freedom to roam around)
Euh ... maybe there are no lobbies because they are asleep ... down under?
So only EUR lobbies are available ? ... (I'm just guessing here)
your result is pointless, repeat this test on your ps3 browser and ping a host in europe
Not all of them obviously, but I'm left here shaking my head at all of the lobbies listed as:
"AUS/NZ ONLY **** OFF FLAGS" or
"AUSSIES ONLY C***S"
I'm a very hard person to offend, but that comes across as ignorant and xenophobic, I can understand that my fellow Australians may want to race with other locals because there's less strain on the network, but why not put it nicely, like the Spanish rooms that say "Espanol only please" (which exist only for communication reasons).
Just venting a bit, probably a trivial thing to be making a fuss about.
Fair enough, I didn't realise the filling of Aus lobbies was in this state, I don't race online particularly often, and when I do I bring lag with me wherever I go

Hence why I generally waft around cruise lobbies all over the world, I can't enter a serious race without ruining people's days until the NBN comes.
Anyway, as food for thought, perhaps naming the room "AUS/NZ only please" rather than something more like "**** OFF NON-AUSSIES" would give the world community a better impression of Australia? You don't want people thinking we're all Pauline Hanson.

Damn mine is slow! In fact I have checked recently and it's below the Malaysian average (and only slightly above typical Indian speeds). I've been trying to figure out exactly what is causing it for ages, my current guesses are that I live too far away from the local ADSL node (in which case everyone on the main road I live on would have the same issues, so I don't think that's the case, and that the long wiring from my modem, through walls to laptop is crappy copper wire, and is slowing everything down, though my wireless speeds are even worse!

It's an odd issue, it would have made perfect sense 10 years ago because of PAL/NTSC differences, but that is irrelevant now. One explanation is that there's nowhere else to put Australia, it obviously doesn't fit with North and South America, so we're left with either Europe or Asia. Asia is closer, but fitting us with Europe has always been the standard solution (since we are more closely related to Europe than Asia, and as stated by Squanto a few posts down, it's fairly efficient for EU and AU to share a server). Alternatively there could be a separate Australia region altogether in GT Online but I don't know if that would be feasible.
Well, keep in mind, you are several thousand kilometres closer to the US than Australia, also, I'm sure you would get an even better result trying a connection to Germany, France or England. Also funny how I have better connection to US than Australia. So I should join US lobbies instead.
Well, you can find out just by clicking this button.I bet mine is worse than all of the above. I have been kicked from a room hosted just a few km away from my house because I carried massive, and I mean MASSIVE lag.
I would love to find someone with a connection worse than me so I can feel good about myself.Well, you can find out just by clicking this button.

If I'm not mistaken, Australia is far right, so they don't welcome foreigners. I entered an Australian room that welcomed other flags at the time Australia was accused of spying on Indonesia, I was there and one guy just told me on chat "If anything offends you just remember this is all banter." Australians are master in banter but the country possess a bunch of bogans as well. You just gotta find the right room.
In the meantime my disappoinment of lobbies in in the Taiwan/Hong Kong server that shares all of Southeast Asia is that they all lack variety and everyone lacks any uniqueness. All lobbies are race lobbies and never anything else. All the cars are bandwagon choices and never anything else either. I just want to cruise around with a bunch of neighbours please.
