Disappointed in Aussie GT6 Lobbies

If you get a tidy router you will be able to race lag free. One of the guys from NSW has you speeds and just got a Netgear 2200 and he can now race lag free.
That could be the solution, though the router I use is only a year or two old, and I can't replace it because it isn't mine. Either way, online gaming has never been something I was especially into, and my outstandingly slow wireless connection to my PS3 seems fast enough to play EDF 2025 online and is perfectly usable for GT6 in some circumstances, I'm looking forward to cruising on Zahara De La Sierra when it finally shows up.

It's for efficient server use ... when we're up they are down ... physically ...

Users don't need to know this network load stuff at all. Why show them this info?

However, if I select filter with EU/AUSTRALIA then i expect to get results with EU and Australian lobbies.

It's a generic solution ...
they don't know where you are from when you are entering your criteria .. they let you decide where you want to go ... (they could, but luckily they don't, so you have the freedom to roam around)

Euh ... maybe there are no lobbies because they are asleep ... down under?
So only EUR lobbies are available ? ... (I'm just guessing here)

Nope, makes no sense. And they know where I am from, it's possible to track country by IP.

Server load balancing is and should be made under the hood. Players don't need to know that. They should separate EU and AUS entirely. They could, actually add country filters.

So you really think they monitor you first by IP address .... well I hope someone else can answer your questions.

Gosh, a lot of yall have slow internet... And that proves I'm not the Lag King!(shows what $85 a month gets you, you wifi hoppers)

I run in a racing series that is very international, we have minimal problems. It has nothing to due with "flag lag" it has to do with what people are willing to pay for their internet service.

On topic... there are plenty of prejudice lobbies.

No Americans, No Canadians, No Beaners(Mexicans (dont call me racist just saying what I see), No Jews, No Gays, No Hetero, No Girls, No Guys, ect... ect...
Yes some of the titles can be very offensive, but its just as rude to deny anyone a chance to run.

It has nothing to do with Aus/Nz, everyone is prejudice to a degree, just to be proper, people smile in each others face, online the gloves come off.
And anyone that denies they are a little prejudice, is a liar.

Not all of them obviously, but I'm left here shaking my head at all of the lobbies listed as:
"AUS/NZ ONLY **** OFF FLAGS" or
"AUSSIES ONLY C***S"

I'm a very hard person to offend, but that comes across as ignorant and xenophobic, I can understand that my fellow Australians may want to race with other locals because there's less strain on the network, but why not put it nicely, like the Spanish rooms that say "Espanol only please" (which exist only for communication reasons).
Just venting a bit, probably a trivial thing to be making a fuss about.

I agree with you. Some of the lobby names are a joke and the way some guys talk during a race is disgraceful.

We're not all like that I promise

Fair enough, I didn't realise the filling of Aus lobbies was in this state, I don't race online particularly often, and when I do I bring lag with me wherever I go :(

Hence why I generally waft around cruise lobbies all over the world, I can't enter a serious race without ruining people's days until the NBN comes.
Anyway, as food for thought, perhaps naming the room "AUS/NZ only please" rather than something more like "**** OFF NON-AUSSIES" would give the world community a better impression of Australia? You don't want people thinking we're all Pauline Hanson.

"slower than 84% of AU" ... Ill check mine

"Slower than 92% of US" I hate my life. :(

Damn mine is slow! In fact I have checked recently and it's below the Malaysian average (and only slightly above typical Indian speeds). I've been trying to figure out exactly what is causing it for ages, my current guesses are that I live too far away from the local ADSL node (in which case everyone on the main road I live on would have the same issues, so I don't think that's the case, and that the long wiring from my modem, through walls to laptop is crappy copper wire, and is slowing everything down, though my wireless speeds are even worse!

It's an odd issue, it would have made perfect sense 10 years ago because of PAL/NTSC differences, but that is irrelevant now. One explanation is that there's nowhere else to put Australia, it obviously doesn't fit with North and South America, so we're left with either Europe or Asia. Asia is closer, but fitting us with Europe has always been the standard solution (since we are more closely related to Europe than Asia, and as stated by Squanto a few posts down, it's fairly efficient for EU and AU to share a server). Alternatively there could be a separate Australia region altogether in GT Online but I don't know if that would be feasible.

Snake, my internet connection was very poor until I discovered that I needed ADSL filters on all the telephone outlets that shared the ADSL line. This includes the line to our satellite tv setup. Since adding the filters the internet performance has improved out of sight. Also, if possible, investigate the possibility of switching ISPs to someone like TPG or iiNet. My downloads with TPG on ADSL are 3 times faster than my ADSL2+ connection with Big Pond and uploads are twice as fast. Cheers

It is annoying when I get kicked out of lobbies for "connection purposes" when most of them time they are the ones slowing me down. If a lobby says "*something* only" I never join them anyway.

Also funny how I have better connection to US than Australia. So I should join US lobbies instead.

Well, keep in mind, you are several thousand kilometres closer to the US than Australia, also, I'm sure you would get an even better result trying a connection to Germany, France or England.

I bet mine is worse than all of the above. I have been kicked from a room hosted just a few km away from my house because I carried massive, and I mean MASSIVE lag.

Awkward moment when communicating with Sydney servers my download speed is half my upload speed but my download speed from LA is around what my upload speed to Sydney was...

I found GT5 pretty laggy even with just 2 or 3 people in the lobby, but haven't noticed much lag unless there's over 6 people racing in GT6 (there's typically only 4 of us). I just did a test and it says I'm faster than 53% of AU? The tests gotta be broken I reckon. Look at that upload speed! It's epic!

lobby names like that are disgusting and are insulting to this country, most Australian's aren't racist since moving to Ballarat, Vic a few years ago i have noticed a lot of the locals a specially in the bad part of town are actually pretty racist to a lot of asians, indians and other cultures it's giving us a bad reputation

If I'm not mistaken, Australia is far right, so they don't welcome foreigners. I entered an Australian room that welcomed other flags at the time Australia was accused of spying on Indonesia, I was there and one guy just told me on chat "If anything offends you just remember this is all banter." Australians are master in banter but the country possess a bunch of bogans as well. You just gotta find the right room.

In the meantime my disappoinment of lobbies in in the Taiwan/Hong Kong server that shares all of Southeast Asia is that they all lack variety and everyone lacks any uniqueness. All lobbies are race lobbies and never anything else. All the cars are bandwagon choices and never anything else either. I just want to cruise around with a bunch of neighbours please.

Australia far right? Hahahahahahah.

Oh deary me no.

Sadly those kinds of room names aren't limited to just one region and I absolutely agree it makes the entire community look bad. Being in the US some of my best online experiences are joined rooms from other countries, I have been racing with a small group of guys from Croatia, I don't understand what they are saying to one another aside from saying my psn name with some groans as I pass them  but we race clean and when something important a short text usually does the job. I have a decent internet connection and haven't really noticed major lag issues joining rooms from Brazil, Canada, or UK either.
