Not all of them obviously, but I'm left here shaking my head at all of the lobbies listed as:
"AUS/NZ ONLY **** OFF FLAGS" or
"AUSSIES ONLY C***S"

I'm a very hard person to offend, but that comes across as ignorant and xenophobic, I can understand that my fellow Australians may want to race with other locals because there's less strain on the network, but why not put it nicely, like the Spanish rooms that say "Espanol only please" (which exist only for communication reasons).
Just venting a bit, probably a trivial thing to be making a fuss about.

That is the Australian way of politely asking that only players with decent connections to Australia join. I talk to my closest friends in that manner
Oh of course, I generally talk that way to close friends too in jest, but that's not how you would talk to tourists, or the new lady at the chip shop.

Oh and @IneedSchool , I wasn't always a Daihatsu, I was a mango with a beard for a little while as well, I may just change it every few weeks.

I think it's mostly because Aussie lobbies get spammed to hell with people from other countries.

Like one reason I stopped hosting rooms is because I have to quit racing or drifting every few minutes to kick someone that affects the connection for everyone else or just lags everywhere.

Fortunately, I haven't seen any of these lobbies yet, but I have seen way too many QC-only lobbies. The only thing, these aren't for connection reasons.

Probably the most ignorant and offensive lobby I've seen was a few months ago in GT5. "no jews or mexicans". I really hope the only people in there joined to berate and criticize the xenophobic host that created the lobby.

They speak french and want to hang out with other french speaking people.

We set our lobbies up sometimes with Aus/NZ, and it is purely for connection issues mainly. Once a few Europeans join the lobby lag goes to hell.

I also race with a lot of Euro's on my friends list and other friends lists that we know are fair racers and have decent connections.

Fair enough, I didn't realise the filling of Aus lobbies was in this state, I don't race online particularly often, and when I do I bring lag with me wherever I go :(

Hence why I generally waft around cruise lobbies all over the world, I can't enter a serious race without ruining people's days until the NBN comes.
Anyway, as food for thought, perhaps naming the room "AUS/NZ only please" rather than something more like "**** OFF NON-AUSSIES" would give the world community a better impression of Australia? You don't want people thinking we're all Pauline Hanson.

I just think it's sad that the Aussie Car representation means that you can't actually have friendly Holden Vs Ford Races, if you are into that kind of thing, I jumped on one night and there were about 6 races all running Bathurst with a single car race using the only V8 Supercar (Tickford Ford) in the game... it was ridiculous.

I've also had some very fun Aussie / NZ Races, so just keep trying, maybe set a good example.

yeah. i dont even need to look at the flags, just look at the map logo. if its bathurst, its straya, C*NT!

Its because Australians think they are special.

There used to be an Aussie only discussion thread on the GT5 forum

same company, different city...

Same company, same city as OP

Yeah, room names like that are not good. I never label a room like that, just usually Aus/Nz XXXpp. Never anything with swearing or anything like that.

It isn't just Aussies that create these rooms.
I've seen plenty of American, Canadian, French, English and German rooms say all similar things in their room title.

But yeah to the OP thanks for singling out the Aussie ones :odd:
top work there bud....

He was only acknowledging what he has experienced. I'm sure he is able to comprehend assholes come from all different parts of the world.

In the us it is just as bad, I've seen many rooms with racist titles like whites only, no mexicans, no jews, etc. So you guys are not the only ones with possibly offensive room titles. Since the thread is also talking about internet, I'll post my speed test results.

Damn mine is slow! In fact I have checked recently and it's below the Malaysian average (and only slightly above typical Indian speeds). I've been trying to figure out exactly what is causing it for ages, my current guesses are that I live too far away from the local ADSL node (in which case everyone on the main road I live on would have the same issues, so I don't think that's the case, and that the long wiring from my modem, through walls to laptop is crappy copper wire, and is slowing everything down, though my wireless speeds are even worse!

What's interesting for me is why Australia and Europe are joined together into one region?
It's an odd issue, it would have made perfect sense 10 years ago because of PAL/NTSC differences, but that is irrelevant now. One explanation is that there's nowhere else to put Australia, it obviously doesn't fit with North and South America, so we're left with either Europe or Asia. Asia is closer, but fitting us with Europe has always been the standard solution (since we are more closely related to Europe than Asia, and as stated by Squanto a few posts down, it's fairly efficient for EU and AU to share a server). Alternatively there could be a separate Australia region altogether in GT Online but I don't know if that would be feasible.

It's mostly because their patience is wearing thin.

Back in the day when I wasn't sick to death of Gran Turismo I was always in NZ/Aus only rooms and the amount of times Mexian, American, Canadian, European etc etc etc players joined was astonishing, it was an almost constant stream and they lagged the game to such an extreme extent that the host would need to quit the race to kick them all.

Over time polite messages of "NZ/Aus only please" slowly become more and more aggressive in an attempt to scare people off because it was just getting absurd.

Interesting to see things haven't changed in GT6 and people still have zero respect for people wanting to have a playable online race.

I think it has more to do with the internet from multiple countries clashing in the room. I live in the states, western New York to be specific, and the closest fast server is across the lake to Toronto, CA. Then comparing to Sydney, Aus:

The internet speed isn't a huge drop for being so far away, but the difference of ping is a quarter of a second. That means everything I do in the lobby will be shown that much later to people living in Sydney or the surrounding area, causing sync issues with the game. I notice this even playing with people on the west coast of the states.

What? No, nobody would tart a room specifically excluding on ethnic group to stop clashing between cultures, non-jew and non-mexican rooms only exist because the people who host them are bigots

lol @ first person shooters...thank god you can mute them.

I dont do public racing as most poeple drive dirty or racing soft tyres (not my thing) hence i set up my own racing series.

If you get a tidy router you will be able to race lag free. One of the guys from NSW has you speeds and just got a Netgear 2200 and he can now race lag free.

I see plenty of these types of rooms, no matter the region. I've also been kicked out of some rooms that didn't even have "country limitations" imposed upon them for not being from that country. Also, I hate when people say I lag because I come from Alaska.

(Disclaimer: Steam's servers in Seattle usually give me a 25 to 30 ping.)

Anyway, it sickens me that people would blatantly make offensive room titles like that, and rest assured that this issue is the same in other parts of the world.

I was referring to the comments about internet lag as primary reason for booting, not the lobby titles. Those idiots should be banned from the servers for obvious reasons.

The fact that you live in the same country doesn't mean your alike. Especially is a large country as australia. So talking about the behaviour of fellow australians in term of online behaviour is completely irrelevant.
