Wha twas that 6 or so cars? is that alot to ask? Especialy since they cram twice that many evos and Skylines into a game? And stock for stock an 04 Cobra v.s. 04 Skyline? Skyline is way more expensive (yeah you can get them here! They are just inder the name Infinity G35x :sly: ) But the Stang could easily tear it a new one. Skyline is too heavy for the amount of HP it has. And just compare the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times and it's easy to see. And the Mustang is a car with great heritage, show it for god's sake, they putting in like what 4 vettes? It's another car with awesome heritage! And my point about trans-am racing was that alot of muslce cars where built with the intent of racing them on road style courses, like LeMans... which Ford did enter several GT350s and a GT500.....

Face it no matter how much you whine and complain you'll never get the mustangs you want in GT4. So lets get the facts straight okay you're right the Mustang is a good car blah blah but how could you compare it to the Infiniti G35? First it's not a skyline it's called and badged "G35". You go to an Inifini dealer and ask for a skyline I'm pretty sure you'll get some weird looks. Second a 2004 Ford Mustang Cobra MSRP coupe/convert 36-40grand, a 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe/Hatchback MSRP 30-33grand mmkay? *internet racing mode* A better comparison would be a GTR vs Cobra and y'know what I dont think the Stang would hang with a GTR on a track. A 2003 Lancer Evolution can put a hurtin on a 03 Mustang Cobra on a track so I dont see why the GTR can't. I want more mustangs too but it aint gonna happen.

Oh okay so the G35x and the current gen Skyline are two different cars eh? Yeah right.... And $35-40 MSRP on a 2004 Cobra? Are you on Crack! I have been down to my local Ford dealer (Sarat Ford of Agawam Mass) and they sell them at $34,206 and that is with the Mystichrome paint and 10th Aneversary package! And check the #'s the Stang is faster to 60 mph, on the 1/4 mile, weighs less, costs less, and damn they look better! Don't beleive me? Start reading Car And Driver, in the back of almost every issue they publish their tested results for fuel economy, listed HP, 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times and some other info. If you like I will quote straight from the mag..:

Ford SVT Mustang Cobra (04/03)
As tested price: $34,750
0-60 mph: 4.6
1/4 mile: 12.9
Top Speed: 155 (govornor limited)
Braking 70-0 mph: 179 ft
Road Holding, g: 0.85
EPA City mpg: 16
Granted yes that was a 2003 Cobra, but still it's virtualy the same as a 2004 Cobra, Ford made NO performance changes to the car.

Infinity G35 (03/04)
As tested price: $36,145
0-60 mph: 6.3
1/4 mile: 14.6
Top Speed: 155 (govornor limited)
Braking 0-70 mph: 164 ft
Road Holding: 0.90
EPA City mpg: 20

Now those numbers seem to prove that the Mustang out performs the G35. Unless you are stopping. Yes it gets better fuel economy, but it's a sports car, who gives a damn what the mpg is. But what sucks is that they are both govorned to 155. I not bashing the G35, or Skylines, jsut pointing out that Mustangs are not a car to be disrespected.

I never said that I just wanted to point out that a USDM G35 is not a Skyline because it is and will forever be called a G35 here in the US of A. It would be like some kid with a Nissan 240sx and calling it a Silvia when in fact nissan had never sold such a car badged Silvia in America.

I don't do drugs buddy I took those quotes from edmunds.com in my zip code.

You might as well compare a Ferrari Enzo to a Toyota Prius which is pointless just like your G35 v Cobra post.No doubt there is a big difference in performance between the SVT Cobra and G35 but agian you are comparing apples to oranges. They are totally different cars the G35 is a sports/luxury sedan or coupe and it does a damn good job at it. Just because it's called a Skyline in Japan does not automatically make it a high performance vehicle. I read Motor Trend.

Actualy Nissan is considering bringing the Skylines to America, well with the Nissan and Skyline badges. But if they do it won't be till 2006 or 2007. Most likely an appearence at the 2006 NAIAS and then showing up as a 2008 model in mid 2007. And Nissan has also copyrighted the Skyline name in the US, aswell as several logos and things of that nature. And whats really funny is that they also tradmarked the name "Humming Bird". lol  Then again Ford did renew the copyrights on the Boss 429 name...... It's interesting to see what stuff car companies copyright, can reveal future plans jsut from some simple text or a logo they copyrighted or trademarked. But sorry bout the drug references there, it's jsut that I have only ever heard of a Cobra costing $40,000+ in Canada. And yeah I know the G35 is luxury and we all know it's a skyline under slightly changed skin, but what I was pointing out is that there are tons of Skylines already in the game, and they all have similar if not the same performance, and well I feel that Mustangs are far more respectable vehicles. They aren't all the same for starters... I realize the game is made by a Japanese company, but the thing is, it sells very well in the United States, and in Europe, and Australia too, so I think the wants and cars of those regions should also be respected and shown in the game, I mean hell it is supposed to be a game for automotive history right? Where do Skylines, hell half the cars they got have any signifigance to automotive history? Hell if that was what the game was solely based on, then we would have race cars and a few of those special concept cars, nothng more, except a few road cars that where icons for their time and still are respected:
some muscle cars
Ford GT-40
Ferrari Testa-Rosa
Farrari Enzo
Chevy Corvette
Ford Mustang
Lambo Diablo VT 6.0
Porshe 911 GT3
ya know the cars whose names will never be forgotten.
Not like:
1998 Honda Civic Euro Type :ouch:
Okay sorry bout straying way off there...... :)

Before my post, I want to congratulate the University of Texas for making it to the finals of the NCAA World Series. Too bad that YET ANOTHER TEAM FROM TEXAS gets screwed in college sports, if not American sports. Damn! Anyhow, we lose to... I forgot what that other school was.

Anyhow, on to my point. There were plenty of Mustangs in GT2. The Shelby Mustangs, and then some of the 1990s and up Mustangs. Only 1990s Mustang not in GT2 was probably the 5.0 Mustangs. Before anyone says "we don't need more Mustangs! GT4 will have more tight corners than straights, so get off it," it is an icon in America as much as the Skyline is to Japan. And I'm not going to belittle the Skyline (why would you?) here, so I'm not going to that level.

When I think of great American cars of today and yesterday, I think: Corvette, Camaro, 'cuda, GTX, Viper, Superbird, Torino, Charger... all the way to the Mustang. And I don't consider the Mustang to be on par with the Corvette and Viper even though I made a thread out it in "Cars and General." But what the Mustang is is a "chick magnet" that has a mean exhaust note. To owners, they are the "anti-rice" of today's automobiles. The Mustang is impervious to affordable machinery for Ford daresay that sportscar quality and raw American power can be had for less. That was Ford's stand, and for more than 40 years, the Mustang lived up to that and never looked back. Does it deserve to be in GT4? For the sake of American automobile lovers and enthusiasts, hell yes. Some may not like it because the person doesn't want Gran Turismo to be all muscle cars, but if you look at it, the Mustang has kicked ass and took names. I remember actor/racer Tim Allen and Steve Saleen racing one in the mid-late 1990s in Motorola Cup or SCCA, one of them.

Mustangs would be a nice pickup. I mean, if you ever look into American automobiles, you HAVE to include the Mustang. I'm not kissing Ford's ass, just saying that if everyone don't like Mustangs, at least 0.01% of the Earth's population likes one.

one is hard pressed to find significant platform changes in the mustang over the last 30 years. I can't get through one major automotive publication that has a focus on a mustang without them poking fun at it.

Not everyone likes the same cars, so they should make an equal variety of cars from every manufacturer. So they should take out a couple of those ugly box Japanese cars that only have 63hp and put in a couple of Mustangs!!

Uh the platform the car is built on doesn't make a lick of difference for performance. Besides the fox-platform got some remoddeling for the 94-98 body style and then again for the current style. But a 1993 SVT Cobra is gunna get it's ass handed to it by a 2003 SVT Cobra. Same platform, almost entirely different cars. Basically all they share is the damn underbody frame system, nothing more! Yeah it's the same basic platform, but msot ofthe parts on that platform changed drastically over the years. Oh and we can't forget that new C6 vette... the Corvette C6 is a big jump from the C5??? please..... Chevy says it's a big change, all I see is a few more ponies, and a viper style front end, and some asthetic changes here and there, but still. And people pick on the Stang for having the same platform, is it a horrid platform? No! Has served the purpose for many many years, so why change what works? Of course now we are gunna get anew platform finally for 2005 and in the 2007 model year we getting a SVT Cobra that I am sure will be more than potent enough to show a Vette who is who, not like it's that far off for a 2003 or 2004 Cobra. Current Cobras have been known to keep up with Vettes pretty well. And base don the fact that the SVT team is taking 4+ years to develop the new Cobra, I'm sure it will be one hell of a beast!

 Actually, the standard C5 cannot touch the '03/'04 cobra. The ZO6 is the only one with a chance. Even the ZO6, however, has a tough time. I have three friends with ZO6's. One has minor bolt-on's, which helps him stay only 3 cars behind me (), the other had $7,000 worth of mods, and he STILL was a car behind me at the 1/4, AND lost to me at the autocross track, and the third just stroked it out to a 383 and added cam/heads/intake and he has not been able to get it tuned properly for me to race yet.

The second guy just spent $8,000 on a supercharger, which gave him a dyno of 445rwhp/399rwtq. My car has $800 worth of mods on it, and puts down 444rwhp/470rwtq. I'd say thats doing fairly well in the "keeping up" department.

at least they don't make vettes with a solid rear axle ;)

Eh, only the GT and lower model Stangs have a solid rea axle. The Mach 1's and Cobra's are independant rear. And yeah the new 2005 GT will have a solid rear axle, but Ford says they are doing that so the car is easier to maintain and it makes it easier for aftermarket companies to tune. And aftermarket cars (Steeda, Saleen, Roush) represent about 20-26% of Mustang sales..... That's a big market to piss off! How many companies do after market vettes? hmm good point none as far as I know..... Although people find it nessescary to tune a viper....but thats what we call obsesive compulsive....... :yuck:

I don't understand what makes Mustangs so famous. They are poor under performing cars.

I remember that one time Hot Rod Magazine put a Mustang againest the Impreza WRX STi, and lost big time. The guys said, "Put some slicks on it and it'll burn the impreza."
To me, the impreza would burn the mustang in any direction its goes. Its AWD, the mustang is a rear wheel drive thats severly under powered.

Are you crazy!! You think 390 hp is severely underpowered? I don't know what's wrong with the Hot rod drivers because a bone stock 03-04 Cobra can run a best time of 12.77 on stock radials and it was in a convertible!! Either they can't drive or Subaru paid Hot rod magazine off. :dunce:

y'know the same thing happened when Motor Trend put a cobra agaisnt the Lancer Evolution and the evo spanked the stang.

Why compare a top of the line Subaru against a middle-of-the-pack mustang? I didn't see the comparison, but you said "mustang" so I'm assuming you meant the Mustang GT. The price of a STI is the same as my Cobra, and you're sure not going to be able to take the cobra with the scooby. Well, unless the race is fro 0-40mph

390 is actually underated as well. It's actually closer to 425hp.

Please tell me that this site does not need to be educated about the bias and inaccuracy of magazing numbers........ :scared:

Why are they putting the same 2000 svt cobra in that only comes in one color and not any other mustangs. They just celebrated 40 years of mustangs and it would be only right to put in the new MACH 1, 40th anniversary mustang, 35th anniversary BULLIT, 2003-2004 supercharged COBRA. These mustangs are very upgradable with bolt on parts such as superchargers, turbos, and a multiple of other things.

I love that 2000 Mustang Cobra they ony need 3 or 4 Mustangs more besides the Shelby one's 04 Cobra , 05 Mustang and then [I wish] the "Elenor" Mustang.

Exactly rico13, but I have a feeling that they'll give us the 2000 Cobra R, 03-04 Cobra, but I really want to see the new Mach 1.

What were the quarter mile times?

Road & Track has the Impreza at 13.3 for the 1/4mile
and the SVT Cobra Mustang at 13.4

I ran a 12.4 1/4 (and I'm a lousy driver comparitively speaking) with just a set of mufflers and an air filter. Hope that helps put "mag racing" into perspective. 👍

I'm sure the cars are purely stock from the factory... mufflers can make enough of a difference to boost your time. Which is why you'd be faster than the R&T time.

But you have to admit, all the models below the Cobra in the last 10 years have been a complete waste of time. Even the 5L base models were super underpowered for the engine that was in it. If it wasn't for the Cobra the mustang would have lost all credibility.

A moded muffler and airfilter in an impreza or evo would gain the same amount of advantage - back to square one.

Then i guess its faster then ferrari since ferrari is RWD, and ferrari enzo, and mclaren, the impreza beats even F1 cars thanks to its AWD

Hmmm your logic is slightly off here... he said... it's RWD & underpowered.

Ferraris & Mclarens are RWD & not underpowered.

No, but they still make them with leaf-springs!!! - now thats sophistication for you!

Somehow, I don't believe that for a second. Have you ever seen Trulli/Alonso jump from 4th to 1st in less then 5 seconds? Not too sure what the stats are but i'm sure they would shred your impreza appart. We're talking about Renault lauch control here..
