ed does this mean i can bring along a super unsensible car and a supersensible one :D

dont worry the super sensible one flat out at 167mph @4,7000rpm does 13.47 MPG (yes im that bored  )

It depends on what you mean: if you think a Toyota Prius is a supersensible car, then no. If you think a Pagani Zonda is a superunsensible car then yes. But you said yourself that no-one would ever take an Oddyssey to a Track Day, and that's basically why they're not in. Similarly Vulvas and other pathetic family cars. You know by now what we're after, so just get with the program! I'm tired of people trying to let this series degenerate into farce, so think positive, think of all the great sporting cars available, and pick yourself a fabulous set of wheels that'll trounce the opposition. Not some clown car that you think everyone will laugh at. Thankyou.

well my control car suggestion is this :D
an Audi S4 to the same spec as the new RS4
417bhp
sports exhaust
computer chip
racing intercooler
lowered to 6.0 front and 5.0 rear
and speedline 037's to complete the look ;)
great sound too

nice! I like that idea. We haven't got a 4WD in the list, and not many people have a go at the Audis. Gets my vote! 👍

I like the idea, good choice!

I have a little suggestion.. As you said earlier Eddie,, That we could take a Megane and just tune it to match the Touring car thingy,,
I liked that idea a lot so why not do that with other cars too,, How about: Converting a BMW 120i to a BMW 120 Cupracer,, Or a Seat Leon to a Leon Touringcar as a bonus competition or something I don't know,, Just a suggestion but I can well understand that it would screw up the original Virtual Track day idea,,

I like the look of that, Scaff. Do you think Kent would mind if we lifted his classification wholesale? :D There are few problems for our purposes: older cars have worse tyres than the latest ones in GT4 (which was why I split them by age in the first place); the Caterham will be ranked with the likes of the Zonda, Ford GT and TVR Cerbera Speeed 12, none of which it can live with on a proper circuit; the Peugeot 205 T16 seems to have an unhealthy advantage against its peers; there's no classification for 4WD cars, although I suspect their performance would not be far removed from the FRs.

I would suggest a class system like this for each division. I think FF cars do need a separate class, as they will not be as quick as a FR, 4WD, MR or RR car with the same power and weight, although you're unlikely to get any FF cars except in the modern division. I doubt there is really any need to separate any drivetrain other than FF: I doubt that MR has an outrageous advantage over the others, but I may be wrong. Haven't finished my own work on this yet (it was interrupted by VTD 1). I think we may have to transfer certain cars between classes and divisions, so they do not have an unhealthy advantage or disadvantage.

Nah I don't think that Kent would mind at all, you might like to drop him a PM and/or some Rep if we do 'borrow' the concept. Only polite after all, and if he's not to busy (I know he is up to his neck in work at present) then he may like to get involved with VTD2.

I agree it may need 'tweaking' for our needs, but I still think its a sound starting point.

Regards

Scaff

BTW if anyone brings a bloody Prius along I will have to ram it off the track on principal. LOL

BTW again - Just to tip my hand, no matter what the classes we end up with, I've already picked one of my cars, going with a 350Z GT4 edition. Just seems to suit the idea of the series well.

And I have a car suggestion, I built a DC-5 Integra up to as close as I could to match the current BTCC regs. It was originally in the Build a BTCC Car thread, here are the build specs for it.

BTCC Integra - To current regs

Or if you want to go 'old school' a Super Touring spec Primera

Primera BTCC

Just a suggestion.

Hehe, nice ideas,2 bad you can't increase revs to match the touring car! :)

I am the gravedigger! Seriously though, I don't do it to be annoying, I find old threads that were done to death at the time, and bring them forward so that newer members (such as myself) can have some input. It's a public service IMO.

Anyway, are we any closer to working out a workable classification system yet?

We are. Just not close enough. I'll have something good by the end of the weekend.

Welcome back Dave and many congratulations! Hope you had a great time. Do us a favour, and get a time at Suzuka with a Racing School Elise, there's a good chap! :D

I really can't wait for this thingy to start actually,, so far some fantastic ideas has been mentioned,, How long will the VTD actually be this time?

Circuit List:

1. Autmn Ring Mini
2. Apricot Hill
3. Deep Forest
4. Trial Mountain
5. Grand Valley

Number of Cars:

3 personal cars, one control car, and the option to run a bike from TT

Control Cars:

1. Mazda AZ-1
2. Spyker Laviolette
3. Renault Megane F1 rep
4. Reanault Alpine A310
5. Audi S4 (new RS4 spec)

I think we need perhaps one more track, which would mean one more control car. How about High Speed Ring with a Sprinter Trueno?

Four corners isn't enough! We need a proper race track! Plus the AE86 is a very well-known car, I'd rather find something that people hardly ever get to drive, like the Z4, or the AMG E55. Something you have to go out of your way to find.

Suggestions so far:
  1. Suzuki Cappuccino
  2. Nissan Skyline R30 Turbo RS somethingorother
  3. Hommell Berlinette
  4. TVR T350C
  5. Seat Ibiza Cupra
  6. BMW M Coupe

Well then, how about Special Stage Route 5, with a BMW 120d?

Hmm two weeks away from the ps2 makes for interesting driving:crazy:

The Elise is a tricky little bugger to set up and find a good rythym in but after an hour or so my best is a 2'14.485

Interesting little sideline there:tup:

Making some car choices now for VTDII....

Dave

good work dave, it took me all week and over 5000km to get even close to the pointy end!

Oops, forgot the BTCC spec Integra ( 👍 ) and Primera ( 👎 )

Actually I like the BTCC Integra idea, it's something a bit different. White with a black wing, as if it was in the off season... It gets my vote. How many want an extra round? Last time it did fizzle out a bit towards the end, so I'm in 2 minds...

6 Rounds would be plenty IMO. Unless it was a special round like the Elises in VTD1, but the control cars sort of negate that a bit.

I think we ned to get going ASAP, before too many people loose interest

I agree, two of my 3 cars are picked and waiting...

Hope you dont mind but I took a late visit to the Nurburgring in the Renault 5 to see how it would stack up, fitted the final mod which was a wing.

The bumpy nature of the ring didnt suit the 5 but made going for a flat out lap very entertaining indeed, out of 4 laps the times were as follows:

LAP1 - 8'12.000
LAP2 - 8'01.000
LAP3 - 7'58.500
LAP4 - 7'55.112

Lap 4 being clean and only a few seconds slower than what I feel was ultimately achieveable in this car. Well pleased though that I managed all rounds without 1 single power upgrade than those allowed!!

How did the Nurb results end up as I cant find them?

regards

Dave

Quite agree with everyone else.

I'm ready to get going again.

Scaff

Well,i'm not running this one,but i apply for administrative things :D

well for a build up how about a touring car race, with road based cars.
class 1 is up to 650bhp,so cars like holdens and fpvs and vauxhalls, mercs audis etc
and class 2 for btcc spec cars?

over 10 laps of say monaco just up until a day before vtd2 starts?

Patience is a virtue. I'm aiming to get started this weekend. We need to drum up some interest before then. Any volunteers to put a "race report" in the "race reports" section of GT4? I'm thinking of a kind of comedy commentary/precis of the goings on in the last VTD. I wanted to do it myself, but kept getting drawn into other things. We get kind of sidelined here, and need to bring in some regular members who don't normally do OLR.

I've been doing some research into how the classes will work, and I'm coming to a mostly satisfactory result. Unfortunately really light cars such as the Caterham will be at a disadvantage, but it's hard to find a solution that will be fair to everyone. Just get something powerful...:p

I've got a Jag E-type and an early Esprit Turbo lined up, and may possibly run a Cizeta V16T, which is unlikely to be in the hunt for the top prize, but will be a riot to drive. I'm thinking "Supercars through the ages...":sly:

Holden, you can do that in the Spot races forum if you like 👍 feel free to use the VTD(TM) logo (which is very simple: just type "VTD"...:dopey: ), and copy and paste rules from the last series if you need them.

All the best,

Ed

PS Dave: Final times in the attached files at the end of the first post...
