I think that if you spent more time with modifying the settings of the vehicle, you'd have a better time trying to race it. To make it fast lower the final gear ratio and crank up the sport setting to wide.
That's what you have to do when you buy skylines or lancers, since they are more sporty you can get more speed out of them by buying a full racing transmission and setting the gear ratio somewhere in the higher 30's.
