DLC Pricing Policies - your thoughts?

Version name is meant for bug fixes, patch, not DLC.

There is a big difference between DLC released just a month after release and GT5 DLC. If there is a demand they will make more DLC. They probably have lots of cars, tracks in WIP may be for GT6.

The major difference. In most games they intentionally take the content from game to sell it seperately as DLC. This is not the case for GT5

Pick one argument and stick to it.

Falling back onto another argument when your original one is disproved (you've done that much even to yourself) makes you look foolish.

Are you moderator? No, therefore, unless told officially I'll say whatever, wherever.

Don't like it? Don't read it.
You know, I'm going to bookmark this post. Then the next time you go ranting at me that I have to shut up because of blah blah yadda whatever, I'm going to quote this. Merry Christmas! ;)

You can quote, bookmark, or Tweet whatever you want, because the fact of the matter is when an argument isn't going your way you'll just bypass it, regardless.

So, feel free.

So? What does that have to do with your claim?

One of these cars was confirmed by Kaz himself to have been nearly finished over a year ago. The apparently finished it just after the game went gold. The only difference is that PD held it back for a year and Turn 10 did not.

Prove it.

I already said they probably have various cars, tracks in WIP. Nobody knows why they were not able to have more premiums. Car models alone is of no use if it cannot be used 💡

It is pretty obvious these DLC were not planned. In fact the whole development of GT5 was not planned properly I think. Forza and other game have this done in advance

I for one could care less but I'm an elder statesman here. 4 bucks, 4 cars, not a big deal. 11.99 was a bargain for the first set. I always envisioned a 10 for 10 or 15 for 20 deal in the works. Maybe the cars are what sold the best out of the first DLC so that's what we get this time. In the scheme of things I could see this as them testing the waters too. I have a feeling the next group could be only tracks.

Toronado
PS Plus members did have a discount with the first DLC, at least in America.

There was initially a screwup where the discount wasn't shown, but PS+ members were later reimbursed for the difference.

Ahh, my mistake. Not a plus member so I wasn't sure on that one. Thanks for clearing it up.

go away troll. its $3.95 like a cup of coffee. if you want to complain, complain about things like the skyrim collectors edition which for a toy dragon - non payable, some books costs the same price of a console.

also for people who choose not to purchase thing as a protest as they wanted something better well...if you dont purchase it, i dont anything will come given poor DLC sales.

I am happy to sacrifice some coffee and loose change for this DLC. its not liek its $39.95...

Actually in australia the first dlc was 20bux and our dollar is stronger than US. This next one will probably be 10 bux. So if they release dlc every two months it will end up costing hundreds of dollars for people in australia

Some parts of this argument (which is what it is now that it's going round in circles) are getting petty.

Both games are excellent and plenty of people enjoy the dlc from both games but that doesn't mean they can't be constructively criticised.

This thread has some interesting points but how about agreeing to disagree ladies.

He said, you said, she said, waaaaaaah I want my Mummy.

Anyway. I'm looking forward to all the new free and paid for content.

Yes, and you contributed a hell of a lot to turn the tides, didn't you?

I haven't read any of the arguments in this thread, but IMO it's good that all users get to join the tracks in online mode. However why on earth didn't they add value and some incentive to the purchase by creating events on the tracks?? Spa took thousands of hours to make I'm sure, why not spend a few extra hours making a few events for it?

I'm guessing they don't want to exclude anyone from actually playing the game (always seemed to be a major component of PD's design philosophy)

But honestly, a few bonus seasonal events in the first month, and then an extra one per update for track buyers, would've been a good way to give us something to do with our tracks without upsetting anyone. Now I am glad we have one, but it's free for all, and although I'm not upset over a few pounds some other person didn't spend, it just seems like a weird/stupid marketing choice on PD's part.

Four bucks is a fair price for four cars. Just not THOSE four cars.

I see your point and I agree that I would not spend it as well on those cars. But from PD's standpoint it makes sense. It costs them as much time/money to model a Golf as to model a Ferrari. So it's logical that they would ask about a buck for each DLC car, independent of what car it is.

Meh. I often find smaller cars a lot more fun to drive than supercars. I mean, what isn't great about seeing a Toyota Vitz in Lumious Pink, doing 170 MPH?

Why the hell should it be free? Do you have any idea what it takes to make a living? Do you hae any ideas what it takes to model the content? They aren't robbing their players, they are earning their wage. Or maybe you don't want a GT6, as it likely the money raised here will be budgeted towards that...It really ****es me off when people like you say DLC should be free, when it shouldn't. Don't like it, simple, DON'T BUY IT.

Seconded.

I dont understand the logic behind people saying the content should be free. Considering the time and effort that goes into modeling, coding, and such for a single vehicle, not to mention all the other costs, such s running the servers. The developers deserve compensation for their continued support of a product.

The cost of the pack thus far are not breaking my bank and the 5$ for the upcoming set is no big deal either. Also, these additions are optional, you dont want them or cant afford them. well so be it, you can still play the game.

Maybe someday you can start your own company and give product out for free and see how long that lasts.

And you and Toronado sure help a lot with your posts around here. ;)

Just sifting through your posts lately, all I can read are a bunch of criticisms and like Tor, a lot of condescending "I know more than you do" stuff. Can't you two make some fun posts, actually join into a thread and contribute rather than just tell the whole board how full of wrong we are? Look at mine. Sure, I wrangle, but too many posters are looking to start fights around here. But I actually have something positive to say about stuff. Once in a while. ;)

You know, you're still in my friend's list. :D

Yeah, this is a problem. This was debated before GT5 even came out, and someone reminded us all of how High Speed Ring seamlessly integrated into Prologue. So I was hopeful that tracks would work the same way in GT5. As of yet, we haven't seen this.

Now in my case, I've been enjoying the heck out of Spa because I've been doing countless races with all of my rides I have time to race in Arcade Mode on Pro with bots at 10. And it's a complete blast, 16 car fields, fairly competitive racing, don't always win, but LOTS of saved replays with great Photo Mode moments I really need to get to. The only reward is the racing, but that's a pretty darn good reward to me. Plus the replays. Just a suggestion if some of you want to race on Spa but hate having to wait for a friend to popup online.

YEAH! Well, except for the 170mph part. ;)

I've been modding up a lot of my rides, hatchbacks lately, to make them into medium powered race machines roughly at the level of BTCC cars or what not, between 250-350hp. And it's been a total blast. I put them in my Favorites list, jump into Arcade, and do the Pro bot race thing, and it's just too hip for words. Sometimes I'll find myself in a Peugeot 307 neck and neck with a Corvette, Viper, Lambo or Ferrari, and have to draft through a straight for a legitimate pass. I'm really itching to do this with the new V-Dubs. Needless to say, once again, I'm fine with this DLC.

Memo to Terro: look, discussion, exploring points, dialog, give it a shot. ;) Merry Christmas.

$4 for 4 cars doesn't bother me that much. Sure, I would like it to be cheaper, but who wouldn't? This may not make total sense but for a small car pack I don't mind paying a buck a car. But say it were a 20 car pack for $20 then I would have an issue and consider not buying it. I'm assuming based on the price of the 2 packs the more content they offer the less they will charge per individual piece.

I know the first DLC offered better value, especially at the $8.99 I paid as a plus member, but I still feel like I will get my moneys worth from this pack, and that is what matters most to me. If people don't see that value then they shouldn't buy it and send a message to PD in the process. I'm guess that this pack will move less units than the first did and PD will note that for the future.

I have to say that the size of this "car pack" may well mean that if we want to see DLC every two-ish months, we may not get much each time.

Apparently, work is still moving slowly in creating content for GT6 because of the meticulous detail involved. And possibly for features we don't know they're planning. Also, they don't want to give us the really cool stuff made for GT6, so we're likely going to get tasty hors d'oeuves as DLC, while the succulent steak and lobster is reserved for the next Gran Turismo. However, I could see Kaz dropping a few golden eggs into the mix, such as if they got the license for a certain car manufacturer that a certain game company is hoarding. The explosion this would cause in the game world would be hard to imagine. I know it's kind of brash to bring up like this, but hey, dreaming is fun. ;)

I expect that we'll see classic track packs before anymore major car packs, as these would be easier to make - sub-Premium like Trial Mountain, and fans around the world are clamoring for them. And if this is what you want, I have a post in the Feedback forum, link in my sig, which proposes this very thing. If you like this idea, and who doesn't, give it a few votes. These wouldn't hurt the appearance of new cars, since the team are modeling everything they can get their drawing tablets on, and apparently the classic tracks are something they had in mind anyway.

The only things keeping us from seeing 10 car packs every two months is that PD is only so big, and these cars take months to create. Plus, they have to decide if a car is just too choice a prize to give out as DLC, even if we're paying for it. And keep in mind that the first car pack was so big because it was basically a tweaking of existing content.

I know that some of you are tired of hearing this from us enthusiastic fans, but I'm happy to get anything, and support a company I love.

By that you mean I don't subscribe to "PD is always in the right and everyone else is flat out wrong, even if they're doing the same thing"? If so, then no, I don't help a lot, do I?

Plus, they have to decide if a car is just too choice a prize to give out as DLC,

Could you give an example of a car that would fall into that category.

I can't think of one.

Also if they have a 2011/12 model, it would feel fresher in 2011 than 20?? When GT6 hits.

I think the pricing is fair. Plus it seems like they give us a few free cars here and there. Nice ones too (though most are GT-Rs :) ).

I will keep buying the DLCs. Got to have the nice premium cars!

I think it's all about expectation. I was expecting a great deal after a good first DLC attempt by Polyphony. Instead after two months we gett 4 cars i have no absolute interest in. No new tracks or cars that were requested long back. That's the disappointing thing. I think PD are throwing crumbs and saving the big boys for GT6. At least that's what i think.

And for the record i wouldnt take terro or tornado too seriously. They always moan and whinge. Nothing positive to add. every thing PD does is criticised. No ounce of appreciation or anything. Begs the question. If you are so unhappy why keep bothering with the game at all? Just a honest question. Don't start AUPs and Mod flagging

If you, or anyone else for that matter have an issue with my unwillingness to pucker up, then, too bad.

Learn to deal with it or put me on ignore.

Also, I hope you have proof of this "no ounce of appreciation or anything" remark on my behalf, otherwise you're just talking out of your ass. As usual.

you sound like my little niece. Grade A whinger. The difference is she's still a kid. Whilst you are.... yeah.

The issue is not about criticisms. I am one of the most loyal GT fans on this site but i have no qualms in saying i am quite disappointed in this DLC. The difference here is you and your pal tornado are always moaning like fish wives everytime i log into this site. Have you got any thing better to add other whining incessantly? If there was ever a game that breeded such negaitivity out of me i would have sold it or trashed it long ago.

But that's just me.

Once again you have managed to deliver the type of well-informed opinion that is so typical of you.

Still waiting for that proof, by the way. You know, of me having "no ounce of appreciation or anything" for GT5. Surely that must be the reason why I have two copies, and surely that's why I still play it to this day; granted, it's in moderation but I still play it nonetheless. My definitive lack of appreciation must also be the root cause why I'm still relatively optimistic when it comes to DLC and the various updates.

Surely.

My thoughts are this.

The first DLC pack was a good value. I was happy paying the $13 or whatever it was for everything, and I even bought a 2nd paint pack to top it off.

The new DLC pack I'm not sure on yet. If they can be RM'd then that's 8 cars for $4 USD and I think that's a fair value right in line with the first pack (just about). If they can't be RM'd then PD is pulling a bit of a CAPCON here.

Edit- OK, I won't say things I can't take back, eh? It's not as bad as Capcom because at least it's new content made post-game launch. But if we can't RM them it's not a great value, though I may still buy them just because the game's been out for a year and it's not like they've been milking us with DLC. It's worth it, just not a good deal.

A Plus discount would sweeten the pot nicely, though I doubt that's gonna happen for at least a month or more. I doubt I have the will to wait if I want it.

I went into abit of hyperbole there i will admit. I lumped you with Mr negativity aka Tornado
