Well, GT5 is a gaming company after all. What is it that companies want? -> To make money. Why? -> To release games. Still, they managed to make GT5, with the earnings of the previous GT games, which didn't include DLC packs. However, expectations are much higher now that it was 8 or so years ago. So, GT6 will need a larger budget, so how can PD increase their budget? With DLC. Common logic, everyone's doing it. Looking back at NFS and DiRT3, half the cars are added after the games released. Not only they update their games once in 2 months, but any content is charged. (I still remember in DiRT3 the Japan games were not in the game, you had to purchase the pack to even complete the game!) Anyhow, I buy whatever Kaz throws at me. Why? Because I know it is top quality.

And to top it off, I wonder, if you think PD is ripping you off, how you feel about Online Pass?

In regards to the OP I feel the DLC is more than reasonably priced and if you really want whats in the DLC and your that hard up for a few dollars you shouldn't be playing GT5, IMHO. Im sure if GT6 came out tomorrow you'd have no problem forking out the retail price to the game.

I believe alot of the DLC was either on the table to be released with the game but was unable to be released due to time tables or they might have been stock piling to be able to give us DLC. I'm sure they have plenty of cars and tracks that are ready for DLC. But you should consider GT5 more of a GT6 prologue. You need to realize that PD is a business no some rich guys play thing.

No we shouldn't, GT5 Prologue was the prologue for this game. This was meant to be the full fat, fully complete GT game on PS3. I mean with your logic then GT6 would be more of a prologue for GT7 and so on.

Dear PD,

I am a loyal fan. Please stop charging your loyal player base money for content.

Dear players,

Please retaliate. This is pure nonsense.

I love PD.

I love GT.

I love GTP.

I don't like being charged for content that should be free.

Stick it in GT6 if you must, but stop robbing your players.

This isn't about complaining.

This is about common sense. Be nice PD.

"Oh but everyone charges for DLC...besides, if you don't want to pay for it than don't buy it!"

I, disagree.

This is the first time you buy a DLC uh? the GT5 DLC is really cheap, even if is another GT-R, is cheap, check the others games/consoles DLC.

Merry Christmas!!! 👍

I'd be amazed if the development costs of GT5 weren't paid off before GT5 even came out simply by releasing Prologue.

Not sure why you feel their would be any dissonance in opinions there.

GT5 could easily include a code to play online, which would have to be redemeed in the Store. Unlike many games, if you buy a used GT5 copy, you can play online without having to pay extra. Now, THAT is a rip off.....

So? The next GT game almost certainly will have such a code. What is the relevance to this topic?

One thing is for sure i'd pay for new circuits as i already own almost 400 cars, didn't buy the last DLC but still get a hardon from racing on my beloved spa thank you poly :D

I think "all free DLC" is a ridiculous concept, but I certainly am not buying more DLC until PD shows that they understand "new" does in fact, not mean "carbon copies of already existing cars in the game". Oh, and a GTR-less DLC group would be a nice touch.
The Scirocco is "new", and that's it. It's probably just a modified Golf V though knowing PD, with a different portrait.

Other then that car as a single possibility, not a single car PD has released as paid DLC has actually truly been "new". Just RM's of existing cars and newer models of existing cars.

Talk about selective memory... ;)

Slip, in the months leading up to E3, there was post after post of people from little kids to full blown adults asking, "Please, Kaz, for the loveoGAWD release GT5 now, whatever you have, and patch it up LATER! It's been five years... we're desperate!"

I should know, I was one of the very few trying my best to talk these people down, saying that patched games usually weren't as stable as finished games, yadda blah blah. Lo and behold, we have GT5 getting periodic updates, and sometimes the patches need patches, just as I said. Oh well, maybe not, Terro and Tor will confirm that I never say anything of consequence. ;)
Perhaps people didn't realize how half-assed a game PD would have after so many years?

I really don't think anyone guessed PD would have possibly managed to do so relatively little in such a long period of time, it's a feat most if not all of us could never have imagined.

Sorry for flogging a dead horse, but does anyone have proof that the Scirocco was already in development when the game was released? How can someone extrapolate that out of "missed at the last minute"?
Kaz said it barely didn't make it into GT5 by a thread. I guess common sense says if it barely didn't make it into the game, it surely didn't take PD 15 months to finish a single car did it?

It is a fully GT game but they are give you a taste of GT6 with the OPTIONAL purchase of DLC. So either you wait 5 years for GT6 to come out or you pay the premium to have it now. Its that simple.

So GT6 is not only going to take 5 years, but also won't offer any new cars, just reworked existing cars?
Amazing are ye, who see into the future.

And what about DiRT3?? They released all their DLC's 2 months after the game being released!! That is also what I call "ripping you off"!

Well we'd all prefer to pay less, no even nothing.

I think that the prices have been okay, although seemingly a bit inconsistent around the world.

i.e. car pack 2, $3.99 in USA, £3.19 in UK

I know exchange rates change, but according to XE.com today, $3.99 is actually £2.61
I gather its worse in other parts of the world

Agreed. Basically developing everything and just withholding some content to sell later, is pretty sad. That's the kind of stuff that should be free, because it basically is just selling you a partial game, only to charge more for the rest.

Now a company that has been legitimately working hard for over a year and is still releasing new content along with proper updates, that company deserves my money. I see no reason why their hard work should go unrewarded. Especially since the updates they are continually releasing not only fix problems, but add much wanted features and are also all free of charge.

I'm kind of on the fence with this one. I'll still be buying both packages. The cars I dont mind paying for. But I think the test track should have been something (or something like it) that should have been included in the game. If it were a real world track I would have no problems at all paying for it.

Forgot to add that I am a little disappointed about the track. I may even skip purchasing it. I have no real concern with the top speeds of my cars. What I wanted was a new real world track. Although, maybe there is more to this new track then just a big oval. If there is more too it (other then it looking pretty), then I will purchase it.

They really need to start coming out with some mountain passes. I would by up that track DLC without hesitation.

I agree with you, PD has my respect!

Exchange rates tell you nothing about the value of the currency within a country, that is how much is required to buy some standardised set of goods (its "purchasing power"), merely its value in exchange for another, e.g. with respect to import / export goods; i.e. foreign trade. Should the Japanese complain that they can't get the DLC for 4 Yen?

All the UK DLC prices so far have been just about "parity", plus the 20% tax difference, with the US prices.
By that reckoning, Sony puts the pound at 150% (or 66%, depending on which way you take it) parity with the dollar, so fairly close to the exchange rate in this instance (actually very slightly "weaker" in respect of the pound). The tax is the killer, as we all know.

"Value" is not something easily (universally) quantified. Take a look at Purchasing Power Parity for more info.

I don't like being charged for content that I DON'T WANT TO BUY
I'm not expecting free cars, but I would like to buy what I want. Not what you want. Dear PD, you can keep the Leaf and the Beatle, I don't want them seriously. Selling the cars singly will be more fair toward your customers.

Most of what I'm reading is "complain complain complain" when I should be hearing "hang on, let me make you a sandwich." If you don't want to pay then don't. Are you going to start complaining that Sony products are cheaper to buy in Japan too?

Dollar for dollar, you're actually getting DLC for a decent price...I know it seems high, but when you consider the amount of work put into it..

Forget the amount of work going in. Consider the amount of fun coming out.

For me, $ spent on GT5 and all DLC is still > going to jail cuz I was out doing something far more stupid with my free time.

DLC is a bargain.

+1. Definite bargain.

And if you try to look at the work. I have some background on 3d modelling and well, you can search on turbosquid.com or other 3d sale sites, you'll see that a proper modeled 3d beetle for example, will cost you around $90 or more.

for $1, you'll receive a model, inside your game, to do whatever you want, and its programmed and scripted to work in your game.

Best bang for the buck? Impossible.

Could be worse, we could have Dirt 3 DLC, which is pretty much a good 1/4-1/2 of the game itself, and I really don't have a problem with it, I'm not going to buy the car pack (mostly because they're pretty lame cars), but Route X, is definitely on my wishlist, and its only $4.00, which in my opinion is not that bad. At this point, I think that the DLC should start focusing more on sports, and super cars, rather just new cars overall, and we need alot more tracks as well.

Paying $4 for a 30km track with possible variations (I said possible, not confirmed), is worth it and no one should be complaining. This isnt just "the test course" from the previous games. Looks like it is going to be so much more...

It's nice looking too.

A hot-wheels is 1.07$ plus tax is 1.15$ X6 6.90$ the car packs 5.99 tax included..
Trust me i buy hot wheels as if they were a small treat.. i have no room to put the darn things =D and the dlc is cheep compared to that yet people complain , i paid 2$ for a little big planet 2 costume once.. and an uncharted 3 skin.. is 99 cents , the dlc is cheep but you guys act as if there the most expensive thing ever!

Everything should be free and open for everyone! YAYY!!!! LOGIC!!!

"walks into house , does things with your wife , looks at you , states "i don't roll that way" Walks into kitchen , makes samitch , walks out"
yep free and open for every one just like your fridge...

Why the hell should it be free? Do you have any idea what it takes to make a living? Do you hae any ideas what it takes to model the content? They aren't robbing their players, they are earning their wage. Or maybe you don't want a GT6, as it likely the money raised here will be budgeted towards that...It really ****es me off when people like you say DLC should be free, when it shouldn't. Don't like it, simple, DON'T BUY IT.

You're joking right? Have you taken a business 101 class or maybe a macro or mirco econ class? Serious questions.
