Just wondering. I remember GT3 and 4. They reflected everything but other cars.
Still, at the time, it was amazing seing true reflection behavior. I think only 1 game did that on PS1..

Yeah, this takes a ton of resources. Reflections of reflections reflecting reflections. Yeah...

So far there is no racing games where cars reflect in each other.

Usual reflections graphics routine can't do this

Need For Speed Shift shows cars reflecting off your own from the in car view, break lights and all. You can see the silver lotus reflection just below itself on the hood.
If i remember correctly that is the only time in the game it shows up, from the in car view

This may come as a suprise but Toca Race Driver 3 (don't know if 2 did it already) had car-reflections in the hood/cockpit view even on a PS2 =)

To achieve that, SMS (Slightly Mad Studios, SHIFT's developer) had to resort to a few performance compromise. Unlike GT5 or Forza 3 which runs at 60 fps, on both console SHIFT runs at 30 fps. And in term of resolution, it's about 50% less than GT5.

And if you compare SHIFT's graphics to GT5 and FM3, you see the huge amount of blurriness on the track and trackside objects including trees and spectators (even when not moving). It's one way to cheat textures/polygons. But what you end up with is a very narrow/shallow depth of field which restricts and constricts views/visions. GT5 on the other hand has a great depth of field which requires more texture mapping/polygons which is GPU draining.

At this point of console development, I'm afraid GT5 more so than SHIFT or any of Codemasters games, have pretty much maxed out PS3 capabilities. And I think PD made a wiser decision to present a less embellished graphics but one that has both visual fidelity and realism.

Im really sorry to say this, but forza 3 also has full reflections.
Including other cars. I tested it couple weeks ago, because i sayed to my brother forza cant do that!!. He said oh no check this out. And there it was. Full reflection of other cars in your car. Btw thats the only thing graphics wise that forza has that gt5 doesnt ;)
