I got the latest F1 racing magazine yesterday, and David Richards commented that Jaques Villeneuve was "Past his best". Do you agree with this? I do.

JV is hardcore to the extreme!

....to the power of suck².

Nah, Jacques used to be a good driver.

But nowadays, he sucks more than a black hole.
 Good one!
I wouldn't want to bash Villeneuve too much, but I think its safe to say that his success in '96 and '97 was down to the superiority of Williams at the time. After 1997, he never drove a competitive car and as such he never came close to winning another race.

And even in '97. the williams was about 2 seconds a lap faster than any other car, and he won the title in the last race.

i think jacques could be a contender for podiums, if not wins, on a proven top team.

put him on honda or toyota this year, he'll faulter.

put him on ferrari or mclaren, i think he can make a difference.

but of course, jv isnt on a top team this year and this year looks to be his last.

JV is not, and will never be, at his fathers level. He got a lucky shot with Williams back in the days and that's about it.. And come on, with the supremacy Williams had back then, Karthakayinaaeeyaan (Huh ?) could've won the championship...

Sorry Jacques - No vote this time - Funny hair color or not......

JV never has been and never will be a "top" driver. He got lucky in 1997 by getting a car 2+ seconds a lap faster than everyone else. He is a decent enough driver but nothing special....

DR is right. DR knows what he is talking about.

Well, since the car he won with was 2 seconds faster a lap when he got the title, does that mean he is a better driver then kimi?

My vote is that he sucks.

Did they have ABS in '97? Cause all I see is JV locking his brakes over and over again.
I think he just likes to drive like his father did during qualifying laps. Other than that he is pretty smooth…

In the 2nd half of the season Jv has matched and sometimes out paced his team mate massa who is now 2nd ferrari driver , I'm not saying he is the best but he seems to be a good driver and he needed a half the season to get used to the car , but any next season we will find out what he is made off :D

Hahaha. That made me laugh hard, thanks. I think we all know what JV is made of. In english the word begins with a "Sh" sound and ends in a hard "t".....

Well it didn't take half a season for him to be faster than Hill in 96, and that was his first season in an F1... traction control, brake assists and sabbatical year excuses or not, last year didn't look good at all.

Anyways, had he kept his mouth shut once in a while, perhaps people would be more keen on giving him credit where it's due. He's not that bad.

I think theres a lot of preasure on him to do what he did in the first couple of seasons, and its possible that he's just not able to handle it, and so he messes up. He might be a good driver, but unfortuantly, the stress is too much for him, taking him down positions.
I doubt he'll ever be as good as he was, or seemed to be, but I think he could do better then what he has been.

Don't know, I actually thought of it as the opposite. In his early years, one of his strengths was his ability to cope with pressure for instance while being chased by MS for several laps.

After his championship, it seemed like he started to take things more lightly, not giving himself enough pressure to perform, as he didn't have anything more to prove. I guess the nightmare of the first two years at BAR didn't help much either.

Either way, it's a shame, and I actually wish he has a decent last year instead of leaving F1 in such a bitter way.

He is not the greatest driver, but he is certainally better than some others that were on the '05 grid. (Including Massa IMO) He has his moments where he can race along with say a Toyota or Red Bull, but then I think his concentration just goes and he falls back towards the tail end of the pack.

He gets bored very easially, he has confessed that, so maybe being stuck behind a car for half the race would get a wee be repetitive, but saying that you do need the skill to get past that car, regardless of what car your in. He can still overtake, just, but with all these young guns around I think he might drop back down to IRL after this season.

There's no doubting his presence in the pit lane, always the rebel was, and still is, JV.
