Do you follow auto racing? Which league?

GT5 is making me interested in real world racing. Do any of you follow any real world racing leagues? And if so, which would you recommend for a newbie to motor sports? I've always found the tactics of drafting in NASCAR interesting, but overall, I don't think ovals are my interest.

I started to follow Super GT due to Gran Turismo, specifically 5. What motorsport which would fit a newbie depends on his interests: do they like strict circuit racing? Do they like close quarters and little margin for mistakes? Or maybe even that person likes a different kind of motorsport, one with a bit of style. NASCAR is well accessible, but can be an easy turnoff due to the seemingly similar tracks. Circuit racing like Formula 1 and Touring Cars can cater to almost anyone, and WRC can fit those who like danger at every turn. D1 is for the one who like excitement from not only going fast, but sliding while doing so. There's a bunch of motorsports out there, you just gotta find one that suits you. ^^ And make sure you can find the website to them so that you can have your daily dose of racing.

"Tactics of drafting"? It's "line up behind the guy ahead of you". That's it. You now are as good at it as Tony Stewart or Jeff Gordon. You're welcome.

I don't know if this thread is in the correct section but I'll post anyway.

I'd recommend you any Touring Car series, normally they're (IMHO) the most fun to watch, chased closely by F1.
However most times it depends on your time zone, since for most F1 races I'm already sleeping when this races start.

You can also watch a local racing series, most times these are rally.

If you want close finishes watch NASCAR. If you want sometimes close finishes but awesome strategy and a variety of cars I would suggest endurance racing like WEC or Blancpain.

Sorry, but there is more to it than that. Why do you think Dale Earnhardt was so much better at it than other drivers? Why do you think certain drivers are more successful at tracks like Daytona or Talledega? Its because they understand more how drafting works and how to manipulate it to their advantage. Its not as easy as you say.

Now, to answer the OP's question. I follow NASCAR...religiously. I have been a fan since around age 7, I'm 46 now. I have always lived close to MIS (Michigan International Speedway) and have went to almost all the races since then. I have met many different drivers, past and present. I have even worked at MIS in a few different capacities. I eat, sleep, and breathe NASCAR. It is my life, its drivers my heroes. Drivers that I have met include Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Rusty Wallce, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, and Kyle Bush to name a few.

British Touring Car Championship. Short heat type races. Alot of action and aggressive moves. Great racing to watch.

Bit of everything, Le Mans, BTCC, F1, NASCAR, and Grand Am more this year.

I watch and can recommend you to watch
World Touring Car Championship(WTCC)
British Touring Car Championship(BTCC)
Fourmula one (F1)
and the Austraillian V8 Supercars :)

Oops I forgot to mention DTM :D

F1 and DTM. I'd like to are more super gt because I love the card bit i like to ade racing live and i can't watch It hete.

I like nu own cars clean ( less is more) but when it comes to race cars, I like them to look like futuristic battle ships and DTM and Super GT give me that:)

I'm a NASCAR guy myself. Been to quite a few races, met a couple of different drivers. For some bumping, banging, and (usually) close finishes, it's a fun sport to watch. I try to catch the F1 races, but it's a little more difficult to see them all being from the states. Enjoyable nonetheless. The technology is very interesting. What new and crazy, yet successful designs the engineers come up with draws me in. I can't help but watch the Australian V8 Supercars whenever they happen to come on SPEED Channel. Those guys aren't afraid to trade some paint.

Other than that, I don't follow too many other series. I do have SPEED Channel on a decent amount of the time, though. So I do get exposure to Sprint Cars, DTM, BTCC, WTCC, ALMS, LeMans, etc... And I can never find the right channel for the Indy Car Series, other than the 500. They can occasionally be fun to watch, too.

Not really racing but I follow both Formula D and D1GP. As well as some other drift leagues.

I watch F1 and recently started watching BTCC. Also watched a few Super GT races, but haven't seen any recently. Oh and watched a couple V8 Supercars races.

Watch those, probably not much out there that is more entertaining. Made me fall in love with endurance racing and I raced nothing but Le Sarthe for 2 weeks after I watched this. Also makes you a bit mad that there aren't any R18's in this game.

I hate NASCAR, it has sucked for the past 25+ years. 60's 70's NASCAR was real racing.

I really enjoy watching Motocross/Supercross.

V8 supercars is fun, a bit hard to follow in the states.

Trans Am series is really cool.

I will also watch anything that a corvette will dominate in. Call me Biased. I am.

V8 supercars will be interesting this year, with Nissan and AMG joining the series

They are going to Circuit of the Americas as well...

Here in the UK the BTCC has not only three damn good Touring Car races each meeting but a fine set of support races. It's on ITV4 in the UK for over 6 hours each meeting and a must see for me.

I second that! 👍 Sometimes the support races are even better than the main attraction. And if you don't wanna watch over 6 hours in a row, you can catch the support races on ITV4 in the Motorsport UK programmes. They also do highlights of the BTCC too.

I like WRC too, but it's not on UK Freeview anymore. I watch F1 as well.
