Do you have to 'grind'

Or, just have fun with the game. đź’ˇ I play online and we do 50 to 75 lap races, I am at lvl 39 and having fun. If I wanted to get to 40 quicker, I'd just "grind" the boring 4hr Nurb race two times.

You spread it out by playing online. Find the right people and then you will forget all about a and b spec.

Like I mentioned play online if you have 10-15 online friends. Get 10 friends (minimum) entered with NO driving assists, its fun and it pays kindly.

And like I mentioned I'm not interested in online gaming. It's a poor substitute for a proper career mode like in GT4. I haven't been interested in online gaming since my Quake II days.

Again, it's a sad state of things when online gaming makes developers so lazy that they don't even try to create a compelling offline mode anymore... 👎 :grumpy:

That depends on how long you want it to take to complete the game. If you want to complete it in a short time, grinding is a must. However, if you have no time restraint, grinding is not necessary. Just try to have fun your way and not rush yourself to the finish line.

I used to grind hardcore, but I got tired of it pretty quickly. Now I only grind to get enough money to pay for cars im waiting for in the UCD, which isn't much. I stopped paying attention to my XP because now I really don't care about it.

no you dont have to grind to lvl 40, i glitched to get my 40 took me less time then it would take you compleating a 9hr endurace (ss7 glitch)

Coming from a player who racks up arround 4hrs play time a week:-

I got GT5 for Xmas and so far I am level 24 Aspec and level 15 Bspec.

I usually play for a few hours on a Sat night and maybe get 2 -4 races in the week.

I do not consider this grinding, and I have hardly touched the surface of the game.

I also have to take into consideration that even though I am level 24, there are still lots and lots of trophies I need to re-try to gain gold.

I honestly do not think that this game is a grind, however I do have a long way to go before I get to lvl 40... you must bare in mind that I dont want this to be over in a few months, hell if this game lasts me 2 years id be more than happy and at this rate i can NOT see myself getting bored of it. I keep seeing new cars come up in the UCD, so many more i need to buy new, and now that we KNOW for CERTAIN that PD will continue pathicing the game, the limits are endless... :D

/From one happy GT5 player!

Just try to have fun your way and not rush yourself to the finish line.

Sounds lovely! How do I do this? Limit myself to 2 races per week and spend the rest of the time admiring my museum cards and horns collection? :sly:

Because the finish line for career mode is awefully near to the starting grid: it's a very short race if you don't go online.

My question,

In order to get to level 40 Aspec, is it absolutely necessary to 'grind'?

So if you got gold in everything apart from seasonal events, what would be your total xp? And what xp is needed for level 40?

A search came up with nothing relevant.

Edit, just seen the total xp needed for level 40, top of forum :P 7,576,732, (could have made it a round number PD)

Grinding will be a necessity if you want to obtain some race cars or any other car but it has a large price tag on them. But, when you notice that it has a requirement level that is too high for yours, you have to grind in a purpose to reach to that requirement level. But, it is nice to cut down the amount of races to grind and just admire and drive your cars ;)

To be honest, I accepted the grinding, but why so many times? I guess PD wants to remain GT5 a fresh game to the public for a long time, to either give PD time to improve GT5 or start thinking about GT6.

Respond to EDIT: You can do 24hr of Le Mans. You get like 6.8 million XP when you finish, but do that when PD manages to add in the Endurance race save option, and / or when you obtain a Group C car, an LMP1 / LMP2, or another very fast car that matches to / over the typical opponents' cars.

Thanks for all the replys, 👍

I only consider it being called grinding when you do the same race twice or more, i just thought it was totally stupid and ridiculous for PD to make the total xp from all events lower than what you need to get to level 40.

And the thing is, I will not be touching the endurance events until the in game race save is available as I ain't risking my PS3 overheating.

If you play every event only once, you will not be level 40. If you play every event only once, it'll be a very short game. If you play every event only once, you'll be missing out on the chance to use hundreds and hundreds of different cars.

The game (in my opinion) is more about the cars than the events. Running a track (Nurburgring for example) is very different in a Civic Type-R versus an M3 versus a Zonda R. Even though you may run it 3 times, it certainly won't feel the same and I certainly wouldn't consider that "grinding".

Answering to the OP: No I don't have to grind. Why should I?

I have never grinded and have hardly repeted a race. I'm level 35 (10X to golding Vettel challenge) and I'm stuck to lvl 35-36, since I play mostly online and did only 1 endurance.
But so what?
I have access to all the races in the game, but one. I have most of the cars I want and I can race them anyhow I want.
So why exaclty should I strive for that level 40?!
It won't make me a better player, I regularly beat higher leveled players. It won't give me access to some new interesting cars, track or races. So why?!

I think you only need to grind if you want to buy lots/all the cars quickly.
I was thinking yesterday about ppl saying you have to grind and pd got the credit level wrong. I thought, perhaps they thought that someone who wants to make their races competitive might chose a car which they won't guarantee a win with- so you do an endurance and come 2nd or whatever, then you would perhaps chose another car or re-try with the same car with different strategy or aiming to improve your lap times..?

I would suggest you Gold everything before getting to level 40, as when you've reached it, you get no more xp, just --/-- :grumpy:

"Grinding" the NĂĽrburgring 4hr event will net you 2' 063' 947xp, once the event is unlocked of course :)

EVERYONE PLEASE SHUT THE **** UP.

Some of you don't understand the meaning of grinding, some of you think that grinding means playing "100 hours in 1 day"... that's not what grinding is. You grind every single time you race. If GT5 wasn't about grinding, you'd be level 40 after the last 24 hour race, by racing each and every track ONCE.

It's the same discussion over and over.

-Someone will complain about grinding.

-Someone will say that they don't grind, since they enjoy doing the same race over and over.

-Someone will say that there is no rush to reach level 40.

Tommorow, the game will be "4 months old", and it is still broken. In 6 days, Need for Speed Shift 2 comes out and I'll be playing that game. GT5 is a mess, I don't even play anymore. I hope that NFS S2 will ***** slap Kaz and his crew once and for all. Most updates that GT5 had was 1 step forward, 2 steps back. PD doesn't even know what they are doing. The only thing that saved GT is what is written on the case, "The real driving simulator"...

"Driving simulator" ? Please.

^^^

:o Even it is a rubbish-like game, I still enjoy it because, well, it's a racing game -- it has many aspects that meets my needs, like the cars and the tracks, for one. If you don't like it, then play something else -- no one is forcing you to play it :)

Do you have to grind? No, you don't. But if you don't, or don't exploit some glitch to get some extra dough, you will find that you get beat in online races sometimes, not because someone else is a better driver but because they were either lucky enough or smart enough to pick the right cars to win with. There might be only a second or less difference between GT500 cars for example, but in many rooms or series that's the difference between a podium and Yuri Who? So imagine for example your first GT500 buy is a $1,000,000+ Lexus, you tune the crap out of it and find you can't get within a second of the lap times of leaders in the GTR's for example.

How easy is it to get another $1,000,000 to buy another car without grinding? In online racing for example, if you were good and averaged say $15,000 in winnings per 5 lap sprint, at an average race length of 7.5 minutes with 7.5 minutes of practice per race, it would take you 17 hours of racing to get your next GT500 car. That's one car, for one class of racing. And that's if you are good. If you consistently finish 4th through 8th for example it might take you 30-40 hours of online racing to get one more car. That's a heck of a long time to play a video game the "legitimate" way to buy one car. And if you're looking for a "LeMans" car like the Peugot 908 or an Audi or any number of cars, look at perhaps having to race 100 hours online to get the dough to buy it.

The online winnings, IMHO opinion are ridiculously low. If you are forced to "grind" to get money, I think it means the game is out of balance and needs some reworking. Anyone that plays for a couple of hours a day, over a period of a few months should not have to worry about grinding to get a reasonable stable of cars with which to be competitive in online racing.

true that!👍 I am at level 35. And holy cow! Long ways from 40:scared:

I didn't measure it, but just from feel, it takes longer to go 35-40 than it does 1-35. You either have to grind to get there or do some glitch exploitation. Opt for the glitch, it's faster...lol.

It's the same discussion over and over.

No one is forcing you to read this discussion. It is abundantly clear what this topic is about from the topic title.

We are not going to "SHUT THE **** UP" because you don't want to read this topic. If you don't want to read a topic about grinding, don't click on a topic that is clearly labeled as such.

My favourite thing to do in GT is race my mates online.

Level 40 will come. Eventually. But while it slowly creeps up, i'll be having a hoot :D

If GT5 wasn't about grinding, you'd be level 40 after the last 24 hour race, by racing each and every track ONCE.

Most people use the term "grinding" to mean repetitive game play to level up to unlock features, levels, etc. There is a goal other than maxing out your level, such as unlocking new content, abilities, etc. The reality is that there's very little content that you have to "grind" to unlock. The only reason you "grind" in GT5 is either because of a compulsion to max out your A/B-Spec levels or because you're too impatient to save up enough money to purchase cars you want. Neither of these things are required. This is how you choose to play the game.

If someone finishes every race in A-Spec and B-Spec and they feel like there's no more new content to play and everything will be a "grind", they should stop playing. Go sell the game. Trade it in for something else.

What's the point of "grinding" from level 35 to level 40? What do you achieve? Most of my racing is online, where I receive (as far as I know) ZERO XP. I do it because it's fun. I have hundreds of cars and all the tracks unlocked. I drive plenty of practice laps (zero credits or XP) and online races. I even spend lots of time online just running laps in "free mode" (again no credits or XP).

So that's grinding to you? Do you not understand that lots of people actually enjoy DRIVING and that is why they play? That, in itself, is the reward?

And just for the record, there are 73,201 car/track combinations. After you try out all of those, then we can talk about grinding. 👍

So because I haven't entered my go kart in the Le Mans 24-hour race I'm not allowed to complain about having to grind for a couple weeks to unlock the Nurburgring 24-hour race?

Hey you can complain all you want that they're not letting you run a 24-hour stint at Nurburgring yet, but honestly if you're not having fun playing the game, I don't know why you're in a hurry to get a 24-hour race unlocked.

I let Bob grind DCC for me anytime I am home and awake, that gets me credits to buy cars and stuff. I just bought a bunch of awesome cars from the UCD including the R8 Race Car (Audi PlayStation Team ORECA) '05 and the Chevrolet Corvette C5-R (C5) '00. So I could not care any less about reaching level 40 and don't think I ever will. Besides, when you reach level 40, what then? Disappointment? No big party, no phone call from the President? It's not about the desintation, it's about enjoying the journey.

In PD's mimesis, robots named Bob till the fields and cultivate the crops....

Who said I wasn't having fun with the game? Just because I dislike one aspect doesn't mean I hate the game.

Ha ha, well just think of all that fun you get to have before racing the 24-hours of Nurburgring

As much as I'd like to try one of those, I'm not sure my wife would ever allow it. She'd probably turn it off and make me come to bed about 17 hours in.

Actually, Obama did call when I got to Level 40 and he said, "You see Johnny, I told you, yes we can, yes we can"...lol...then he had to go deal with some Libyan thing and he was off...
