Lets say you're in an online room and the host says "all choose the same car from your garage", say a Ford Focus RS or something and you all have a race.

The car thats been modded always pulls away and the bone stock cars can never catch up.

This has happend a few times now, the few rooms that I fequent do this quite often so people can use a wide variety of their cars without them collecting dust.

So whenever I buy a new car I feel as I have to max it out and its costing me a fortune.:dopey::indiff:

Does everyone else max out all their cars?

No way man only the cars I like to race , no point in all racing the same car if all the modifications aren't the same :)

All of my cars are maxed out. Not sure why really, I keep telling myself it's a waste for the ones I don't drive but I dunno, habit I guess.

The best way to avoid this is room limitations like "recommended" only, PP, max power, weight, etc. Also, I wouldn't hesitate to kick someone like that. Personally, it's because of this that I will only bother with NASCAR online. It's near impossible to have an unfair advantage. 👍

Some cars I do. However, on cars like the C63 AMG, I don't because it is really hard to drive even at 600 HP. Sometimes I buy 2 of the same car.

While I do realize it's harder to drive some cars when they're maxed, I still completely upgrade them because you can always de-tune them

I used to (when PSN was online years agoooo :D ) choose limited PP rooms for racing, I really has fun racing with 350 or 550 PP cars.

^ basically this. The group I race with always keep it as fair as possible, if we're not using a "recommended" car, we're using a car where we've already agreed on a PP, weight, power limits & had a chance to tune our cars properly.
We don't take our racin too seriously, but like it to be competitive, fun & fair.
Add me if you like (when the PSN is up)

Too bad there aren't more cars on the recommended list so you could have more choices for a balanced "stock" race. I also wish they would let you make your own cars available to the room - then you could set up 100 nearly-equal cars for racing if you wanted.

The only way to have a disadvantage in NASCAR is to add a weight ballast to one's car like myself and some others do. It sure does make the race a lot tougher!

I've found that most of the time it pays to join a room with a PP limit as then no individual is going to have a massive advantage when it comes to the vehicles performance.

Here's what I've said before on this topic:

I wish there was a pinned topic in the online section explaining this about pp restricted races for newbies.
That you might as well just go back to aspec if you don't have full suspension, full LSD, & full transmission on all cars you might expect to want to use in an online race.
There's no way to force restrict tuning parts out of a race. So unless you play in an organized race with ALL people being trustworthy for the honour system, you should just assume everyone's adding the best items... even if they SAY it's "street legal" or "road cars". This generally does NOT mean everyone's sticking to sports suspension & whatnot.

Basically, unless you're playing in an organized race where there's strict rules about tuning, tires, car choice, etc..

You should assume the following:

If it's a one make race - everyone gets their cars all hopped up as much as possible, with all the best parts. Then power-limits down (and/or ballasts up) just to fit into whatever restriction is on the race.

If it's class race - ie: any car of a particular class, whether it be sports cars, hatch, saloon, sedan, or coupe or even kei cars... Everyone gets out either the most hopped up car they have in that category, or the most high end car they have in the category.

If it's a purely pp restricted race...
They don't get a car that's ballpark that pp or just mod it up to the pp with a few upgrades. They FULLY modify it, and then limit it down into the pp restriction.
And that makes a big difference in some lower-performance cars. A racing flywheel, fully adjustable LSD can make some crappy cars very drivable.
Or, they just even skip that and just take a car that, out of the box, is superior, and power limit that down to the pp restriction.

I'm not saying this is ALWAYS the case. As there are some people you'll find not doing all of this all the time. But you can just guarantee that at some point or another, there's going to be at least one person in the room that does this, and then everyone else will follow suit not to be left in the dust.

Here are some very good threads about the issues involved:

Well that's not necessarily true!!
Differences of quality, handling & power can vary WILDLY at the same PP number.

I must say that the funniest races I´ve had is when the owner choose "pick from garage" and only give one option. This means that all drivers have exactly the same cars and not able to modify at all.

I agree with viking. Certainly one of the best afternoons of racing I had was when everyone was driving the same stock car. Started with Mustangs then Minis, Fiat 500's (the old-school premium one) and a few others. Keeps the racing tight and comes down to driver skill, not who has the de-tuned supercar. :-)

Does everyone else max out all their cars?

I have all cars and i'm slowly upgrading them all (including rigidity and engine rebuilds).
I've upgraded ALL the premiums and i have started on the standards. I have fully upgraded around 200 of them also. This includes the rigidity and engine rebuilds plus all tires.

I only do this because i have been online in some awesome lobbies and caught out when i didn't have a tuned car that others did. :)

If you want a room with all the same stock cars, just choose that option... it will force everyone to use a stock version of the car rather than a modded one from their garage. Just saying the same model, without restrictions, leaves it open for interpretation.

God no I don't upgrade every car. Holy expensive lol. Only cars I'm interested in actually driving and tuning.

I've yet to be in a lobby that's done this to me yet although my online experience is somewhat limited and I always go in PP limited races when I do.

Nope, I only max out certain cars of which I have more than one.

Even then, I usually have to detune them for online races:dopey:

You see this is it, the only cars in my garage are the only ones I'm interested in driving and tuning.

Since I became a rubberband man a few weeks ago I've modded or upgraded every single car in my garage that I think has even the slightest chance of being raced online and since I mostly do PP racing these days, that's a big range. I'd say I've got around 400 fully upgraded cars. I've avoided almost all them multiples so I only have one NSX for example, 2 Rx-7's, 3 or 4 GTR's and a couple of others, but mostly single versions of each car.

I am not modding all my cars as I currently have almost 600 cars. I do though modify all the cars in "Favourites" as they are the only ones I use online (or even offline) more or less. Even in "Favourites" I dont use all of them as we all have our personal favourites of course.

I haven't personally maxed all of my 200+ cars. I'll only tune to match the opponents power (I'm talking offline), but online...I got somethin' to pick on there, but I'll save that 'til later. Anyways, I'll tune my cars to match the opponents I'm going up against because...hey...I like a challenge! It's more realistic to me that way. PLUS I get to save MAD $$$ so I can get other cars (rare, and dope ones) and other parts I need. But hey, all this **** is just me. I don't see the reason to max out the car(s) that you have ALL THE WAY. Not only it's a waste of money, but...don't you think it's cheating...? I stick to my own rules in GT5, always have since the beginning of the series. But I guess you can say is trial and error, and always trying new things on your cars...and PRACTICE. Those, to me, are key and how I'm usually successful in winning Gold's. With that, technique is key. Can't always (or neccessarily) blame the car(s) you're driving...it's okay to admit that the blame is on you...the driver. You with the controller. Power is not always everything...it's technique and skill. Power, weight, etc. IS important, don't get me wrong, but if you can somehow find balance between you, the driver, and the car(s) you drive...consider yourself king.

I max out almost all of my cars. I really just want to see what I can get them out of them, especially with the unusual cars like my 950hp RS6 (it's such a beast)

Solution is simple - and it's definately not NASCAR racing.

Find yourself an organised race series(s) from one of the major GT websites, don't just join the first one you see or feel would be good. Look at lots of different ones and try different ones to.

Don't be afraid to ask questions either, if the guy(s) organising the series are any good they should be more than willing to answer questions and explain things to you.

Random online races are pretty much 9/10 unfair in some way shape or form, this applies to NASCAR to, I know plenty of people who have tried or race them alot and they say there's plenty of issues with them too.

Do some research generally, PP races aren't always fair, there's other elements that can have a big affect i.e. driving aids, power limiter etc etc

There's alot to understand and get your head round if you want fair racing - and no, the last thing you do is 'max' your cars out.

These often prove harder to setup and can limit your options even more, if your going to tune a car heavily use as many inter-changable parts as possible, this will give you alot more options.
