Do you think chase cam is for noobs?

I only use bumper cam without side indicators when racing or TT'ing...personally I feel like using chase cam (3rd person view) and the side indicators teaches you nothing about knowing what's around you and inevitably just hurts you in the process.

Opinions?

I'm honestly not sure how anyone drives in chase view effectively. You turn the car and the car moves before the scenery moves. It just doesn't make sense.

I prefer everything to turn when I turn like in real life

I'm always using chase-cam
I can see what the car really does.
And i like to see the car itself.
Yes people called me noob once, i don't care.
I used the bumper cam once with the Hudson season event, the car took my view away from the track (willow springs)

if you use a steeringwheel? Chase cam is the worst, i have a wheel but don't use it, it's more for my daughter.
Got the Logitec Driving Force GT, Nice wheel, but i still use DS3.

FUNFACT!!
when doing a online season event and go into the rank list.
I see people with the T500 wheel slower than me.
That must hurt if they knew how i drive.

Allows me to see more of what is going on around me and if the car is losing the back end. But very useful online when someone charges up the inside late into the turns...we all know the scenario!

Well, I'm a DS3 player and I use the chase cam too, but only sometimes. I can drive just as fine with the chase cam as I drive in cockpit or bonnet view. I usually prefered the chase cam in previous GT games (always used it in GT3, same as in GT4).

No, it's not.

When I race I mostly use roof camera, gives a similar 'overview' of what's going on around the car like a proper 3rd person camera would. I also like to use cockpit view, but it's fitted in awkward positions in many cars, and I don't like staring at empty blacked out shapes either, so hood/roof view is the way to go for most cars.

On other games where the 3rd person camera feels less awkward (where it's fitted at better positions and moves more naturally as the car turns) I like to use it (e.g. in Grid Autosport, it's my favourite camera there). But in GT5/6 I dislike it a lot, only advantage is its sound.

I do not use chase cam for racing. Drifting, it depends. I primarily use hood view; I just wish I could have a wider field of view and a rear-view mirror.

It's not just for noobs, but it's not good for simulation. I use a different view depending on the circumstances:

- Cockpit or Hood view if the car is rear wheel drive, unless I'm in traffic online, then I will switch to chase cam to see the other drivers better.
- Chase cam if the car is FF or 4WD.

I used to drive chase cam only, but started to prefer the feeling/visual input of cockpit/hood cam about 6 months ago if I'm driving a rear wheel drive car. In the onboard views, my driving is more consistent and I make very few mistakes, however I'm still faster, more aggressive and daring in chase cam at the expense of making more mistakes.

On PC sims though, I will only use cockpit or hood view, never chase cam, I'll only do that with Gran Turismo for some reason. I suppose it's because GT is still missing too much feedback from the car.

Anyone who can use the superglued chase came of GT4-present is far better of a driver than I am.

I think if a game is going to call itself the real driving simulator, cockpit view should be the only view you get *shrug*
In real life you can see more that what's directly in front of you. You also don't have to completely sacrifice forward view to look left right or back in real life.

*obvious joke about Standard cars*

Also, the series has always called itself that.

I know guys, but I'm being a realist for a moment. When you drive a car, are you ever anywhere BUT the cockpit...?

Well actually...

How is it for noobs ? Its the most difficult view to drive in gt. You never really know how hard you're turning and there's no sense of how fast you're going since the camera doesn't shake or even move. I often end up going too fast in a corner or oversteering.

I find driving the lmp cars easier in chase cam. Drifting is easier in chase in my case, but it's just preferences.

I...am far from being good at Gran Turismo, but I am better with hood view than I am with chase/3rd person. I think I get too distracted from the car moving around much. It just looks weird to my eyes.

There's an amount of science behind this, actually; you can see the course better so your lap times improve.

Sorry about nonsensical pre-edit post; cat stepped on keyboard.
