Do you think you could beat this??

It's the law of averages though "rosckolove"..

Alot of people used extremely grippy tyres unecessarily to make up for lack or either setup or driving skills.

I'm an OK driver, but I know guys who are very good. I was in a lobby watching some friends race Cobra's on comfort tyres with all aids turned off - including ABS, their brake / throttle and car control was amazing.

During the near 2 years I've been onlne, it's not just a stereotype, but rather comprehensive that the majority of people who use RS tyres ALL the time or in unecessary situations (i.e. lower grip tyres would be more than sufficient) do seem to be using them to make up for lack or either driving or setup skills.

BUT - yes, I do agree with you, there would be a small % of guys who are using them that could progress to much higher levels.

Unfortunately, alot of casual gamers (not die hard GT fanboys or petrolheads) set a precedent with RS tyres, and this has left a negative stereotype lingering amongst the more experienced / serious GT users.

your point makes sense in offline a spec races, that is when you don't need them but people use it just to well, whatever reason they use it for.

its not true online at all. using racing softs doesn't make it any "easier" online. easy to keep a car on track? no. i find it easier with the sports tires to keep in on track because the cars are on the edge all the time it is predictable and going ungodly slow.

how about we disregard the G force meter and the speedometer for a second. just go off your own perceptive speed of objects going by.

do you really think cars are going to go as slow as they do on sports tires?
imagine taking whatever car you own in real life and flying around a corner at an ,a 90 degree turn. in this game you have to stop to make that corner. no sense of speed, its like LITERALLY playing a DRIVING sim not a racing sim. no racing feel at all. i use racing softs because all the competition does, and i want more competition. but also because, this game has a horrible sense of speed and it is so ungodly boring driving around a track that feels like its made of ice. cars grip in real life with real life stock road tires, way better then they do in this game with sports tires (again ignore the number and just look around)

i also think your small percentage comment was incorrect.
if the standard was sports soft alone and that was as high as it went.
it would be way more practiced, and the guys that are competitive on RS's would eventually learn the characteristics, and be just as competitive on any other tire.
that is fact.
you mastered a certain set a characteristics
we mastered another
the ability to master doesn't change.

sure guys used to racing softs fly off the track with any other tire, they aren't used to them
but guys used to comfort or sports tires would not be anywhere close to the edge of what a racing soft can do.

not until they mastered the other set of characteristics. thats why your a complete and utter moron, if you think tire choice has anything to do with the persons skill level. and thats why i let him know

i realize how my arguing may look, but i'm not incorrect in what i am saying.

it would be like a guy from iRacing coming in and saying we are all skillless. i would then reply, the top guys from here, after practice would be in competition with the top guys in iRacing.

if he argued, ^^^^ all of that is what would happen. because he is an idiot

Just going by experience.. I had many online GT friends from Prologue, we raced everyday on Prologue..but since GT5 has been out, so many have walked away because of the differences in physics between GT5 and prologue, all the problems with GT5 and also the way Polyphony has handled GT5 since release.

Alot of these guys were very good at Prologue, fast and clean, but so many fell flat on their faces when GT5 came out, I was very surprised. Only a handful of those 70+ guys are still on and playing regularly..

So I guess from my experience, the ones who opt for the most grippy tyres, even for cars under 500pp, they do that for a reason.

I knew a few, I asked them why and they said they couldn't get on with the different physics (in GT5 compared to prologue) and setups.

This is why I think guys who are stll using RS now (when other tyres would be sufficient), 2 years into the game are possibly doing it for the same reasons.

There's plenty of explanations re setups online, you don't even have to be a great driver to use sports mediums at around 500pp. But there's still alot of random lobbys (not the organised racings ones) using 'overkill' tyres. So I just presume that those who are doing this regularly, or as 'default' tyres for everythig are most likely going to stick with that.

If they were going to change, I think that would've happend in the near 2 years game has been out..

If you want more competition - join online racing leagues / championships / series..

It's rare to find random / open lobbys that has racing consistently as good as organised racing through websites.

Some random lobbys can be good, but most organised racing is consistently very good - plus, on average, you tend to find better quality drivers because alot of the guys who want clean / fair racing, couldn't find that easily online, so they hooked up with a website.

We race everything from 400pp road cars to 700bhp Le Mans cars, one of our most popular series is our 450pp classic road car series - it's a "sell out" (full lobby) everytime we run it, and has been very popular, so much so, in a year we haven't needed to change the cars / regulations.

The cars are very slow, but it doesn't matter, they're very even and when you're racing with 4 / 5 / 6 others, bumper to bumper, side by side (with no contact or ramming) for anything from 2 - 7 laps, who needs 'speed'.

Racing with clean and fair guys who you trust @ 450pp, side by side and bumper to bumper the whole race will beat any speed race.

It's a total buzz to be in the middle of a 5 / 6 car battle for the entire race..

This I will agree with, although it has no bearing on the conversation previous. The only lobby's that are open now are RS. Don't know why, although I have just been in a
Lobby that was SS, and that was a refreshing change'!

I used to race in online leagues, not because I am an "elite" driver, but because I like to be with other drivers who don't ram you off the track for overtaking them. This you can't find in online lobby's.

i agree with you.

i have a group of guys i run 650pp race cars with. they can all run under 6 minutes around the ring, we have awesome 5-6 car battles lasting the majority of the lap all the time, going incredibly fast. its like what your describing, but with more adrenaline for me.

if i was used to one thing, and then it was entirely changed on me. i doubt i would hang around. (sports soft being the maximum tire and racing tires not an option)

i find good low pp sports tires lobby's all the time, and everyone is in a pack because the cars won't allow anything else. its like restricter place nascar racing.. boring (for me)

with the faster cars the guy with the real driving ability can really, really start to build a gap. ya know.. like senna did.

but this isn't my point, you enjoy your thing i enjoy mine. my point is neither of us is more skilled

edit-

i wish i could join a league. but i can't i don't even own a playstation, i just play at a friends mostly on the weekends. i don't have an option for leagues. otherwise i would, and i might even get used to skating rink cars, since there would be a great amount of satisfaction. (i don't enjoy driving at all, i enjoy winning)

and its easy to find clean online lobbies. find a few good drivers. they know where to find them, just follow them, i find them all the time

add me on PSN. (just a warning i will be joining lobbies with racing softs at 550 and up) we love clean racers slow or godlike

And keep away from ferraris please and no burn outs in Australia

i'm sorry. i'm completely missing your point?

He wasn't addressing you, merely adding to what you had already said. :)

.........XsnipX...... (i don't enjoy driving at all, i enjoy winning).......XsnipX.........

I'm the other way around; I enjoy driving. But, I enjoying winning, too, whenever I do.
Your choice of tires and the fact you like to specialise in the familiarity of one track cannot be reasonably faulted; like you said, it's a game to some, and how you enjoy it is up to you.

BTW - Caps are in fashion. 👍

If I could interest you for a moment, would you like to try to beat my time as posted below, same car, track, no ABS or other aids, comfort medium tires, grip : real, tire wear/fuel consumption on. I am sure if you can handle RS tires and 600 PP+ cars, a stock Cizeta V16T would pose no issue. Faster than 8:37.xxx should be easy job, and I would love to know if you can do it :dopey:

Just for fun, I just did a lap at Nordschleife with Cizeta V16T, bone stock, 574 hp, 544pp, 9xxx miles on the odo, no ABS, no other aids, Comfort Medium tires, 9/7 BB, time : 8:37.376, a few oversteer here and there, quite number of rather slow sections. I am guessing a better driver would have a low 8 minutes with the same set up. Also, tire wear/fuel consumption was on and grip : real.

i also think your small percentage comment was incorrect.

When you have time on PS3, please give a try with my Cizeta time, same set up, no ABS and other aids, comfort medium, tire wear/fuel consumption on, grip real, Nordschleife, stock Cizeta - no tuning, 8:37.xxx time.

I want to know your time:sly: As you said, "comfort or sports tires would not be anywhere close to the edge of what a racing soft can do.", then I am pretty sure this will be a walk in the park.

"thats why your a complete and utter moron, if you think tire choice has anything to do with the persons skill level."

After reading this, I am now even more convinced that you can drive with comfort tires well as it has nothing to do with your skill level.

"the guys that are competitive on RS's would eventually learn the characteristics, and be just as competitive on any other tire.
that is fact.

Knowing this, you should have no issues mastering any car or tires. Please let me know if you can do it:tup:

I dare any one of you self proclaimed “elite driver”s to come spend an evening racing in my room. I can guaranty, you will not dominate.

The majority of people in my room don't use racing soft tires (and/or aids) to make up for poor skills or bad tuning. They use them to go faster.

Edit: I do have a rule. If you win, you must retire that car until the PP changes.

I think the point is that the time gained from the tires is artificial. Aka the car should not be able to go that fast and the tire is (literally :P ) carrying them to that time.

Therefore in a racing simulator the simulation is not correct.

Personally I feel that the RS tires remove all the characteristics from the car you're driving. To me that's the fun part :)

IMO, I think it takes away quite a bit of skill required, when a road car you drive has the cornering grip/traction of a F1 car, as it is a lot easier to explore the limits of a 500pp road car as compared to a over 800pp car with similar grip levels.

In a nutshell, i feel that placing race slicks on a road car takes away the main essential skill of driving a road car, which is learning how to control a car in low grip conditions.

It may feel a lot slower than a proper race car, but it certainly gives one a sense of satisfaction after correcting every little loss of grip yourself, to get the perfect lap, as opposed to the thrill of pushing a full grip race car to its limit for the perfect lap.

I find both of them equally fun, in different ways. To each their own :D

@rosckolove
Now now, no need to get so agitated, just because you don't like a person's comment, it doesn't necessarily mean you are entitled to attack him with insults.

Besides, Lewis_Hamilton's opinion is a generally shared among pro GTPers, surely there must be a proper reason why most of us frown upon the use of RS, as explained in previous posts.

please understand the opinion is fine. not the insults.

lol ridox, you keep suggesting i drive these god awful machines.
do you have one on share or something? i'll try it

I'll put the one I used for share, just send me FR : GTP_Orido, and Cizeta V16T is not a god awful machine, it's one of the last raw supercars of the 90's, the real car did not have any electrical wizardry, no ABS, no TCS, not even power steering. No imagine how hard it is to drive it in real life ;)
