Do you use the driving line ?

Not at all. The line the game suggest rarely fits my driving style, and I use nothing. Refuse to use any aids, starting with ABS too now.

So no. Why do you ask?

No, but I sometimes use the "natural" race lines i.e black rubber marks at the corners to judge my cornering.

Used the driving line for the first couple months after release, then figured out it was much more fun without it.

I used to, then it just sort of clicked, my lap times dropped and now I only use abs:1.

You can be faster if you learn your own braking points, turn in points, apexes, and so on rather than following the blue/red line. Finding the rhythm of a track on your own is also important.

Not on the ring, but usually yes on other tracks.

I don't use it on endurance races.

I usually use cars below what the AI is using, but if I use a better car (or tires) than them, then I don't need it.

I have been playing GT5 every day since my pre-ordered copy arrived, but I am lazy.

I used it until GT Academy 2011 where it was forced off. Since then I haven't used it and it has felt unnatural if I try. I feel like racing with it off has increased my ability.

Yup, and proud of it too :D. I have bad memory sometimes so I can't remember the breaking lines for all the tracks.

^This.

You'll end up being faster without it. I used it back in GT3/4 days when I sucked lol. I haven't used it ever since, I find that it's much better to learn your own line rather that following the one laid out for you. You find better braking points, and generally a faster line. To me, that line is only there to teach you on how to drive smooth, after you learn that, it's time to get more aggressive and take it off and screech those tires a bit :)

I have to admit though, I do once in a while (depending on what I'm doing) use the gear indicator for braking purposes. I don't follow what the indicator is suggesting but rather to see when it starts flashing, it gives me a warning when it's time to brake.

I don't use it in GT5, but during GT Academy I did have it on. I felt like it really helped me there.

Nope, I don't use driving lines in any racing game I play.

I do not use the driving line aid because it is not the true racing line. It's not the actual racing line because I find that the line apexes in sharp corners much too early and it's easier and faster if you find your own apexes, braking points etc. because I use no ABS and because I use a certain technique to shorten braking distances, I find myself braking and turning much later than the in-game racing line suggests.

To those that want to know how to find the best racing line, then check this YouTube video out. Watching it has improved my times by at least 4 seconds just by watching this and applying it to my driving in Gran Turismo 5:

You see, the whole point of the racing line is not to cover the straightest, fastest path of the track, but to maximise your exit speed onto the straights, therefore making you faster at the end of the track and reducing the time of your laps. If you start thinking to yourself to increase your exit speed instead of covering the least amount of distance around the track, then you can happily watch your laptimes drop :) .

That natural racing line you see is the line that many people use and therefore has worn down due to extensive use. In real life, that line tends to be more slippy compared to other areas of the track, but you only notice it when the track is wet. You also notice it more on very old racing tracks that haven't been repaved for quite some time, the Nurburgring for example. You also notice this on GT5 on the nurburgring but not so much on the more modern race tracks.

I use it on track creator tracks, because I find that they tend to come out being far too all over the place to get in the groove with them. Other than those (and the Nurburgring), I leave it on but usually just ignore it.

I also use it in PD created Course MAker tracks, because as you said, they are all over place, and overbanked with so many blind turns, its annoying to figure out the line when you cant stand the layout.

Other than that, hell no, the driving line is too distracting and misleading.

I only used it in previous games for certain license tests. That then, only as a guide, because I usually turn it off after the first try :dopey:

Nope. I think it's much better to play without it because it makes you pay more attention to the track and learn it instead of relying on the line's guidance. It's also more fun, not to mention it makes the roads look a bit prettier.

I actually stopped using it after Prologue. Eventually got faster with it off, and it feels rather odd to ever turn it on again. I don't consider myself above the persons who do use it though.

It's reccomended that you don't use it too much during wheel to wheel racing, because your racecraft may be negatively affected by your attempt to always follow the line. You will find yourself not leaving any room for drivers attacking or defending.

This. Many people who turn the driving line on get hooked on following the line perfectly and eventually they block out everything that's happening around them including other drivers just for the sake of staying on the line all the time. That is the reason why people, along with the reason of already knowning a better line around the corners tend to not drive with the racing line on.

Anyway, the only time I've used the driving line was on Gran Turismo 3 when I was new to the world of racing. I turned it off after a few races though.

I used the line when I first got GT5. I would never drive without it. After a good amount of play time I became more comfortable with the tracks. I find that the gear recommendations are much better then the driving line.

I've turned off the Suggested Gear aid too.
